    Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad

Jachut: How do you lose 120% of your excess weight? I'm confused... does that mean that you lost 20% more than you originally hoped you would?

*raises hand* I DID! I DID! Were you at least out having fun? Running super-marathons? Swimming English channels? Scaling huge mountains?
  3. I don't get the fibromyalgia thing, but the other one I take to mean that if a parent hosts a party for teens that has alcohol, they risk losing a lot.

Maybe if you had flirted back... :Banane01:
  6. I've been thinking of going back, but only for the meetings/support. Certainly we can't eat the way WW suggests due to restriction, but I have thought all along that it's necessary to have some form of support/counseling along with anything else we're doing. THis may be the cheaper route than going to a therapist that deals with eating disorders.

43% Pay NO Federal Income Tax - ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

Ya just keep tossing FOX out there, don'tcha? Funny, it's the ONLY one you seem to have issues with. Why? Because you know all the others are left-wing numbnuts. And for the umpteenth time, I don't have cable so I'm not "brainwashed" by FOX as you are by all the left-wing media. Talk about suckas! :purplebananna:
  8. Bubbly, you ought to ask whoever is saying these things how many times they've been on WW. That oughtta shut them up. :purplebananna:
  9. Wait -- my doctor saw me NEKKID?? :Banane01: But I digress... this decision is yours. I don't try to talk anybody into or out of this surgery. However, everybody here is right -- this is a place to vent about problems. The number of success stories overwhelm the number of issues, and let's be honest -- a lot of those "issues" are created by the banded because they don't follow the rules or try to make the band do all the work, wailing that if they wanted to go on a diet, blah blah blah. Cry me a river. There ARE legitimate issues where people did everything right and the band gave them fits. It does happen and can't be avoided. But again, those numbers in relation to success stories are minor. That said, you need to determine what is important to you and if the failure rate is enough to make you re-think this. Nobody should tell you what to do -- all they can do is tell you how their experiences have been so that you can take away all information and come to your own conclusion. It was for this very reason that NOBODY knew I was going to have surgery until I had made up my own mind based on my research. Hubby didn't know, friends didn't know, and family didn't know. As it is, only a few people know about my surgery, but that is another topic. The fact is, I didn't want others swaying me either way. Maybe do yourself a favor and visit the "Before and After" board or a board where people have lost 100 pounds or more. Get some good info into ya. :purplebananna: As for me, it's almost been a breeze. I'm still having to re-learn HOW I eat -- slow down and make sure my bites are small and well-chewed -- but beyond that, I'm very happy. I'm a few days away from 6 months out and I'm down 61.5 pounds.

I always thought PCOS was a co-morbidity, but if it's iffy, I hope for you it works in your favor. Good luck!

I'm sorry, g4e. It's never an easy decision, but we do what we have to to protect others, whether four-legged or two. You did what you had to, and the good thing is he found a home and was not put down.

If so, she lost three more pounds. She was 117 at the official weigh-in. Egads, woman needs to eat her a sammich now! :purplebananna:
  13. What is your purpose for lobbing such a personal, insensitive post towards somebody you don't know, simply because this billboard hit her badly?? Way to introduce yourself in post number one. :purplebananna:
  14. Nope, sorry, wasn't me.

I've known people who were a bit chubby to resort to anorexia, usually either in response to teasing about their weight, or simply because they feel out of control in other areas of their lives, and eating is the one area they can control with an iron fist. I haven't known anybody to go from being way overbese to becoming anorexic, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Maybe replacing it with excessive shopping, sex, or drugs/drinking, gambling, that sort of thing -- but who knows? Maybe it does happen. The fact is, eating to excess like we do is often an emotional response to life's issues. Anorexia is typically a control issue. They're closely related but triggered by different things. My sister is a recovering bulemic and was teetering on anorexia as well, so I know a little bit about this issue. Though it would also be considered an addiction like overeating is, the situations are typically different. However, I could see both being replaced with other equally damaging addictive traits. I just think the eating portion of those addictive issues are based on different reasons.

It would be interesting to find out how many people go from the overeating eating disorder to the anorexia eating disorder. I haven't specifically heard of it, but that's not to say it has never happened. I would personally think the old overeating habits would be more likely to take over once the competition is over and the money is won. Though I really love to watch these people lose weight, I am also disturbed by many aspects of the show -- namely that it's all about the number and we hear nothing about healthy eating, healthy habits, and people are over-exercised to the point that they are injuring themselves. And then they come on a show looking like Jerry and Helen. It's just sad, really...

Why "Chew To Liquid" is Absurd

I guess somebody is just trying to sell his book. If he engages people here, why would anybody want to pay for the book?

Thanks, Lulu, I'll check into that. I know the mobile vets are way cheaper. The only reason I went to my local vet was that my female had a cyst on her back that erupted and I wanted to be sure it was okay. I don't think the mobile vets do anything beyond give shots. G4E, I'm with Lulu on that one. When you have a pet that is aggressive with other animals or family members, IT'S GOT TO GO. We had to do the same with a dog who became aggressive with our daughter after having been boarded. All I can figure was a kid there tortured him (he was good before going in and was too young to be really aggressive) and he started getting ugly with kids (would lunge at them if they rode by on bikes, etc.). The day he snapped at my daughter and JUST missed the end of her nose, that was it. My daughter was 70 pounds and the dog was 75, and she did nothing to the dog. All it would take was coming near him, even if it meant she was also coming near me -- he'd growl and get that crazy sideways glance that says he really means business. There are just those situations, and it's totally understandable.

The older we are, the more meat we need on our bones. When I was in high school and my early 20's, I was 120. I don't think I could carry 120 well nowadays and have my goal set for 140 (though I reserve the right to adjust it once I get to 140 if I feel I need to be, say, 135 or so ). Helen looked good in her dress (though thin), but when they put her in the tee and shorts, she just looked underfed. People are right -- Tara looked healthy. Jerry also looked horrible. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he lost all that excess weight, but I could NOT believe he was only 65!! He looked at least 75, and again, he just looked underfed.

My mom mentioned the Humane Society...? Don't know if they do them. The other option is one we have used in the past (and I WILL use from now on) and that is Luv My Pet, which makes the rounds to the area Petcos and Petsmarts. I plan on calling them later and do a line-by-line itemization to see what they charge for the same shots and see what the heck my vet's office's problem is! When I was having a coronary right there at the counter and saying, WTH, the office manager said, "Well, we work really hard to have all the most current equipment, blah blah blah," and I said to her, "Yeah? Well 10 years ago, without all that crap, DOGS LIVED."

Why "Chew To Liquid" is Absurd

That's how it should be -- read and interpret for yourself and come to your own conclusion. Overall the jury is out for me on this guy. Either his writing style really sucks, or he's just plain incorrect on some issues. At this point I'm not 100 percent sure which one it is, but you're right to rely on your own research and interpretation rather than relying on others. You're on the right path!
  22. One of our LBT members has a daughter who had the surgery in December. She was 18 when she had it (19 now), and one of her heavy friends told her if she had the surgery, she couldn't be friends with her anymore. And that's exactly what happened. I told the girl that if her "friend" felt that way, she wasn't really a friend to begin with and no loss. But yes, I agree it's probably an almost exclusively female issue. I agree, Jachut, that if my friend lost 100 pounds, while I would be happy for her, I would also feel a tinge of jealousy or, as you said, lose a way of feeling slightly better about myself.

His most recent thread was on salads. I believe that advice is not sound advice, nor do many of the other people here who responded to his article.

PJTP: Okay, who here thinks it's ridiculous to pay $550 for shots for two dogs??? I only got the necessary stuff (bloodwork for heartworm meds, rabies, lyme, and one other for bacteria) -- no bordatella (?) or anything exotic. I about had a conniption when I got to the counter!!! I'm seriously thinking about having a major "coming to Jesus" talk with somebody there (I haven't paid yet)!
