Any suggestions Protein
BethFromVA replied to kathead73's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I LOVE the EAS Myoplex brand shakes. They come already done (though I THINK you can buy the powder form) in ready-to-drink containers. I prefer the chocolate ones, though they also have vanilla and strawberry. The Myoplex Carb Control are great, as they only have 4g of carbs with 17 Protein. If you go the regular route, they are 20g of protein and I think 17g carbs. I drink one every morning for Breakfast and it really does the trick. And to me, the taste is fantastic, not to mention the convenience -- chill, shake, and drink. They sell them at GNC, but don't get them there. They sell the 4-pack for over $10, but you can get the same thing at WalMart for about $4.97. -
LOL, hello and nice to meet you!

Uh-huh... :blushing: Handcuffs. 'Nuff said. :cursing: -
Believe it or not, at times when I had hit a plateau in the past (eating well, exercising regularly), I would take a Saturday or so and bump my caloric intake. Not horrendously, but say if you're getting an average of 1200 a day, bump one day to 1800 or 2000. It was amazing how the body would react to that and de-plateau. And/or change up your workout routine. The problem is, our bodies get used to the rote. It gets used to the calories and workouts we give it. Unless you shake things up, it just adapts. Usually the answer is not lessening your caloric intake (because yes, the body will go into "survival mode") but to increase it or really push your workout routine. Make sure your exercise is varied and not always the same thing.

Please excuse the chuckle I got out of this, but it made me think: Once upon a time, it used to be, "Calgon, take me away!" Now it takes anesthesia to do it. "Anesthesia -- for the rest you never thought you could get." -
Questioning My Surgery on Tuesday
BethFromVA replied to falcon66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgery here is relatively new (yes, since the late 90's, I believe), but the surgery itself has been around overseas since about 1980. The good news is, the mistakes that were made early on have been improved and fixed. And I too am to the point that if I have to give something up, so be it. I want this weight loss too much. If you think the food issue is going to be a hang-up for you, maybe you are not ready. You have to get to that point where you have to have give and take. Some things you may have to give up. I may miss them, but I won't mourn them. I'll just find better things I CAN have and relish that. -
Wow, I was banded 11/21 and won't even be able to eat "normal" food until 12/19...

I can't believe it, but still no bruising! The only thing I got was a "pinch" type of bruise next to one of my small incisions. It almost looked like they used a tool to pinch the skin because it has two very solid, straight marks. But even so, it's only about the size of my pinky fingernail. I'm amazed, expecially considering some of the pics I've seen from others and all the bruising they had!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but you're not driving yourself home, are you? Or is it just the trip home that concerns you? If it's the trip, you'll probably fine. I wasn't that bad the day of. -

PJTP - I met a great lady today, and we both feel like we've known each other forever, like sisters! We're about the same age, she's a fellow bandster (was banded in April), we have very similar interests, and get this... she lives AROUND THE CORNER from me in my very neighborhood! I'm SO TICKLED!!!! -

The thing that doesn't help is that weight looks different on each person due to height, body structure, and maybe even how they dress. -

Shhhh! If you pull it, did it ever really exist? -
Um, because that's what you said: "I spent my months of weightloss pretty much in bed. I suffer from depression and have a thyroid problem so being in bed isn't new for me. ~snip~ <SNIP> She called me crying. This is what I told her to do: Put the tv in the bedroom, put the phone in the bedroom. Get tons of drinks, fav foods -diet foods though. Eat all you want and stay in bed! ~snip~ <SNIP> She lost 14 pounds by NOT working out, NOT seeing her personal trainer, NOT running, and eating when she wanted and staying in bed." I don't think anybody is saying you advocate that for everybody, but you DID make it appear as if your advice to her -- YOUR advice -- was good.

The pheremones must have finally become irresistable. :wink2: -
I have a vague understanding about sleep deprivation and weight gain, but OP didn't say if his sister was only getting a couple hours' sleep a day or what it was. And I also don't like how it was his idea, and not his sister's doctor's, that she stay in bed and eat/drink. Muscle loss WOULD show a great loss on the scale, but it's the wrong type of weight to lose. I think most of us here realize that.

Color me ignorant, but I thought a key culprit to being unable to lose weight was not exercising. I've never EVER heard of sleep deprivation as being an issue. And because I don't recall if it was mentioned, how sleep deprived is deprived? Getting only a few hours' sleep a day?
