  1. I need to get help from someone who can tell me or suggest to me how to get through the evening and night time hours without eating too much. I am on Jenny Craig and I am pretty much stuck on a 50 pound weight loss. I gain a pound or two and then lose a pound or two. I am going CRAZY! I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I ride the bike for anywhere from 5 to 8 miles, do leg presses, do excercises for my arms, all and all about 1 hour worth of gym duty.

I have to go back to my doc next Tuesday and I am scared to death that he is going to make me feel like a total failure.

My husband works nights and I have my dinner around 6pm. Around 8pm or 9pm I have non'fat yougurt with blueberries. Then I come in my room and get on the computer. My desire to snack goes absolutely bonkers. Sometimes after I have been asleep for a while or around 2 or 3 am I wake up and want to snack. What is wrong with me?? Am I just a total flake or what???

Any suggestions will be sooooo appreciated. Hope to hear from someone soon.

  2. Hello all. I had some blood work done about 2-3 weeks ago. I went to my dr after the results were in and my test numbers were not right for my gallbladder. (By the way I was banded on 12/9/09) My dr ordered an ultrasound on my gallbladder. Can anyone give me a heads up on why? It hasn't been that long since my surgery and I had no issues with my gallbladder before surgery? I am worried because I am not sure why this was ordered. Any help out there?

    Thanks

  3. Hi Firedancer and welcome...congrats on your Banding!

The next group will meet on April 24th, 11:00-1:00.

Some of us go to lunch together afterwards if you would like to join us! It is a great group of ladies (+ 1 cool guy) that we get to enjoy learning how to do this new way of life!

Where are you all meeting? I would like to attend. I have been looking for a support group to be with. :smile2:

  4. Hi there ! Congrats on getting banded. Remember it is a "Journey" not a "quick trip". As far as exercise plans go, if you want something that will make you confortable at first I would go with Curves. It is only for women and (I have gone to Curves) the women who do go there are generally very supportive. When I went I lost several inches along with going to Jenny Craig. Once you see that working maybe you will be confortable enough to go to the gym on the base for free. If you are going to have to move with the service, you should always have a gym available to you.

I belong to 24 hour Fitness. I used to be uncomfortable going to the gym because I thought everyone was checking out every one else, but you know what? Everyone was too busy checking themselves out in the mirrors to worry about anyone else!! LOL. No, really it is true !!!!

Good luck to you, I hope everything goes well for you.

  5. i had my first fill today. i asked my dr about pills. he said crush every pill. i said even the small ones? he said crush every pill.

of course liquid gels are a different story but alot of what I take doesnt come in that form. gonna get liquids. ordered liquid tylenol online (I have frequent migraines) because none of the stores near me sold it

Ya know getting meds in liquid form is expensive also. I take several medications and to get disolveable (sp?) pills is very expensive and I take an antibotic every day and the liquid form is quite expensive. There are some "hidden" cost that you don't think of to begin with. :crying: By the way, if you CVS pharmacy, I buy my liquid tylenol there.

Good luck with your fills coming up. Stay well.:cursing:

  6. Everyone seems to be getting fills alot more quickly that I have gotten. I was banded on 12/9 and just got my first fill on 2/19 and it was 2cc. Some banders get their first fills within 2 or 3 weeks of surgery. Has anyone had to wait a long time? I have a dr appt 3 weeks out from my first fill. I don't notice any difference between having my fill and not haveing it. Well....Maybe a little bit, but can still eat what I want maybe not quite a much. I am just feeling like I am doing something wrong or something. I have a large band in place 14cc. Anyone have one that large?

Please give me any info you can. Thanks.

  7. ??? I have lot of sensitivity in the area of my port, It seems to protrude a bit. No schedule appt with DR, as my last fill before xmas has given me great restriction, even though I am still struggling to lose the last 10-15#.

You should call your dr with that info. My dr would want to see me right away. Waiting since before christmas is a long time not to be in contact with your doc.

This is just my opinion. Good luck with the band and losing those last 10-15 Pounds.

  8. Hello all - Just started my journey towards insurance approval. I know my United Health Care policy has ANY form of weight loss help (surgery, medication, diets, even counseling) excluded. So my doctor's office is going to take it through the process and see what will happens. Wish me well. I've gotten a lot of information and inspiration from this site. Looking forward to being able to say " I've been approved!"

Do you have any complications of being overweight? Diabetes, high blood pressure, high colesterol?? If you get a denial from your insurance, appeal it and make sure they have all the facts about your health. You can go as high as the state insurance board..so don't give up. Any thing good is worth the fight!!

  9. So I have been researching and thinking about getting the LAP-BAND®® for a few years now. But I wanted to wait until I was sure we were done having kids and I wanted to do more research. Now that our youngest (and last!!!)is 10 months old, and I have researched the procedure and the differences and pros/cons compared to GB....I have decided to proceed with the LB procedure. I am 30 years old and am at the heaviest I have been at 240. I have always battled with my weight since I had my first child but I was very skinny (Size 4) before I had her 10 years ago. I have been able to maintain and deal with my weight over the years even though I was not happy aout it and no matter how much I watched what I ate or excercised...I was still not really losing any weight, just maintaining.... what was the deciding factor for me was I went to the doctors a month and a half ago because I was really depressed. She perscribed me wellbutrin and wanted to see me in 3 weeks for a follow up. At that appointment I weighed 234. At the next appointment 3 weeks later I weighed 241....7 lb gain in 3 weeks!?!?!?!?! I know everyone says this but I dont eat bad I watch portion size and eat a good amount of veggies/fruits and try to watch carbs. Sine I had my son 10 months ago I have gainined about 30 lbs. Thats the part that scares me....I have NEVER gained weigh that rapidly with out noticing that I was gaining unless I stepped on a scale. Its like Im at a point that IM so big that you dont feel or notice a difference if you gain 5 lbs here or there....and to me thats scary!! The weight just sneaks up on you and I dont want to see myself hit the 300 mark. So before I even get close to that I figured its time to do something about it. I hate to do drastic things such as surgery but I am tired of having no energy and being depressed about my weight. So instead of spending the rest of my life constently being miserable and worried about it I would rather enjoy it and be able to be active with my kids as they grow up. It would also be nice to love going clothes shopping again....as of now I DISPISE it because I will pull something off the rack that I think looks like it would fit me and it will be way too small and makes me look horrible. It would be nice to be able to go and buy cute clothes again, but more importantly I want to be there for my kids and be able to participate in the fun activities with them. So here I am. Referral has been placed and I have registered for the mandatory LB informational seminar that is scheduled for Feb. 25th.

As far as questions, (Im sure I will have more as the time goes on) but here are a few...

    1) How long does the process take from the point when you get the referal in place till you get to have the surgery?

    2) Read some blogs about port placement...anyone suggest wher the best place is? Does the port hurt all the time? Is it possible to dislodge it? Does it hurt during night time activies (LOL), like if your on bottom...dumb question I know but it was something I was wondering.

    3) Do any of you regret it?

    4) My cousin had it done a couple years ago (we were both looking in to it at that time but I wanted to wait till I found out more and made sure I was done having kids....glad I did!!....my cousin is now super skinny and said she lost 10lbs average a month for 13 months....is that about right for weight lose average per month?

    5) Can you drink from straws or are you not supposed to like GB patients? I know soda is not a good thing and they recommend you eat a cup of food 3 to 4 times a day...any other restrictions?

Basically as much information you can give so I know what to expect and can hear it from people first hand who went through it.

Thanks so much guys and Im glad to have started this journey!!

    ~Michelle

Hi Michelle...Congratulations on making a difficult decision!!

I just had my band put in on Dec 9th. So I will answer what I can Okay??

1.The time it takes depends on if you are planning to use insurance (how long it takes to get approval) or just paying for it yourself. It also depends on what your doctor wants to have you do (loose some weight, quit smoking etc.). So once you have your approval and referral, check with your dr on what he needs to have you do.

    2. Your doctor will usually decide on the placement of the port. It is usually about 2" above your bellybutton. It does not hurt (once the healing is completed or close to it). It does not hurt any night time activities. (top or bottom!) LOL:wink2: I think you would have to try really hard to dislodge it.

    3. No I don't regret it. It is not as quick as I had hoped. I don't have much restriction yet, but I am going for my first fill next Friday and that should help. From everything I have read the fills do not hurt much more than a pin prick, so don't worry about those.

    4. From what I have heard and read here at this site, 1 or 2 pounds a week are about right. You don't want to lose it too quickly, but you do have to work and have the desire to lose weight to make it work. As everyone knows it isn't a solution, the LAP-BAND® is only a tool in your weight loss journey.

    5. My dr said I shouldn't drink with a straw and that carbonated beverages can streach your stomach so that is a no no.

Well there are my answers. I would recommend you keep checking-- Find a good supportive doctor, with a great office staff and go from there. I do recommend it. I just didn't feel like getting so cut up inside like the bi-pass requires.

Also, although they don't recommend it, the LAP-BAND® can be removed, if you feel it necessary. But that is something you need to talk to your doctor about.

Well good luck and let us know what you decide and how it goes.

  10. I am 5 weeks post op and have not had any port pain since about week 2. Now I am feeling periodic pinching type pain when sitting or getting up. I thought it was from my jeans rubbing but it has not gone away. It is more uncomfortable then hurting. Is this normal? I don't recall doing anything that would have caused the pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

I was banded on 12/9/09. I started doing sit ups a couple of weeks ago and I started getting a burning sensation around my port. I went to my dr and he sent me for an xray to be sure the tubing was all connected and not twisted. Every thing was okay, but he told me to find a different type of core exercise to do. So I think we just move wrong to try to do too much and it irratates the port or surgery sites.

Just my opinion...Dr said I could get my first fill now YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. So far I have gone from a 48DD to a 42C. I am not real happy about it. My breast are saggy and when I lay down they go to my sides! UGH! When I am closer to my goal I think I will have either a lift or augmentation. At least that is what my husband and I think....um....

  12. I just saw it recently on TV (for about the 3rd time) and I still laugh at it.

Except for the scene where they offer Rosemary

a piece of cake and she takes a THIRD of the cake.

Okay, yeah, fat people over eat, but come on.

    Nobody does that!

Anyway, I was wondering what others thought of that film.

It cracks me up. It is very funny. You have to get that it is a over example for laughs. I am sure you do. Thanks for the memory. I haven't seen that movie in a couple of years.

  13. Okay apologies if this is a dupe post. On the bberry. Anyway, I am having the same issue and have decided to do the 5-day pouch test. Take a look at the posts on it from this week for the details. I am just on day 2, but down 2 lbs. Hoping it will continue.....

    Hang in there!

Hey Juliansmom I am not sure what the bberry thing is. Can you explain it? Also what is the 5 day pouch test? Sounds interesting....can you help a girl out????

  14. I really like the "Premier Protein" brand that costco carries. It is pre-made, has awesome Protein and low carbs/fat.

Now that I have had my first fill, I use Bariatric Advantage in both the cho and vanilla. They are super thick so they keep my full for a loooong time.

    Hope this helps!

I use Bariatric Advantage Vanilla. I mix it in the blender with ice, skim milk and banana flavoring (but you could use what ever flavoring you like). It comes out like a shake and is very good. Try it....you'll like it. Good luck.:sifone:

  15. Well, I have to confess. During the last part of December and all of January, my weight would go up/down by four pounds. I am doing pretty much everything I usually do but I'm sure there are some things that I could be doing to help myself.:sifone:

I had refused to change my ticker b/c I didn't want to see that gain but I did change it tonight. Gosh 4 lbs up is a real bummer for me. It makes me so mad at myself and it's depressing too.

So, starting tomorrow, I am going on a liquid diet for a few days and then soft for a day or two before getting back to solids. I am also going to chart my intake and up my calories from 900 cal per day to 2,000 per my BMR results. Maybe I haven't been eating enough and my body thinks it's starving. Who knows?:frown:

Please wish me luck and I'll consider any advice given.:)

I did my BMR for the first time last night and it said I wasn't eating enough calories either. I am on a Jenny Craig 1100 calorie a day diet and I have been loosing with that. I know how difficult it is to keep going up and down with the same weight numbers (mine has been 1.5 pounds). Just try the increase in calories and see if that works. You just could be correct about the starving thing. Wish you good luck. Hang in there it will work.:huh2:
