My story began in 2008 when a friend of mine decided to go to a seminar for weight loss surgery and asked me to go with her. I had thought about weight loss surgery previously but never really seriously. At the seminar, I learned a lot about the different procedures and thought that this might be an answer to my up and down weight. My friend and I decided that we would go through it together and try to have it done at the same time. However, I started having real bad problems with my feet and I needed to get that taken care of because I was having a lot of pain. My friend went ahead and began her journey with having the gastric bypass. I was always a little weary of having the bypass because I know of many people who have had the surgery and have had a lot of problems postoperative. Well everything went ok for my friend and after my foot problems calmed down, I decided to have a consult with the surgeon and see what he thought. I had researched the lap band procedure and thought I wanted to go that route because of the less chance of complications. Well I had my lap band surgery on July 23, 2009 and am a few days post op. I am coping well with my changes and am looking forward to the many changes to come that will improve my overall health and well being.
