  1. I'm a cross fitter and a band to bypass revision. I moved at the same time as surgery and I'm finding it hard to get childcare to watch my toddlers to go to class. I'm also getting married in sept and my box know that I won't go back until after the wedding and kids go to school. They don't know I had a revision so I guess it will be a shock! Like you I couldn't lose the weight with cross fit and healthy excercise, they should support you whatever and work around your needs. It should b a supportive environment!


  2. I had my band for seven years and always did my own fills and I am not medically trained my mums a nurse and she taught me. I only did it because my port was below the rib cage and very close to the surface of the skin. To be honest a monkey could do it on my port.

    However it does come with a lot of temptations so If you are going to do it I would suggest that you draw up a sensible schedule and stick to it or you may find your self in trouble with filling too often or over filling or even worse keeping a too tight band to lose weight quicker which Is a sure fire way to get severe acid reflux and slips.

    My band slipped due to pregnancy but I believe that the terrible acid reflux came from keeping my band over tight.


  3. So I am 11 weeks post op and I have a two and four year old who only go to nursery 1 1/2 days a week. Now I am a big fan of non processed healthy eating but of course I allow my kids to have occasional treats. When I make them meals/snacks I just automatically seem to eat some of it and it's never the extra healthy stuff it's always the crackers from the fruit and cheese plate or the buttered mash from chicken dinner or the chips from the picnic etc when I do this I am then full up so its not even really the calorie content from what I'm eating because it's not that much but it means I'm missing out on the protein/ good fats that I should be eating.

    What do other parents who's children are at home do?


  4. I believe that the more you have abused your body with a million different diets the more your metabolism is damaged. Last year I ate super healthy and was doing a lot of crossfit. Didn't lose any weight...because my metabolism was so damaged with fifteen years of diets and previous wls.

    This is why you get the syndrome of the person who is overweight and never really been on a diet joining weight watchers and losing twice as much weight as their friend who has done every diet under the sun.

    Having wls surgery especially sleeve/bypass helps to reset the metabolism. That is why this time around I am less concerned with starving myself thin like I did with my band. I have a second chance at eating well and at a good calorie level and I am going to take it. I don't want my body to think that I can only eat 800 calories a day for the rest of its life to maintain. I have found the Dr Weiner videos really helpfull with this.

    Everyone is different and this is only my opinion and approach!


  5. The reason most people not lose on the paleo diet is that they eat too much fat. Yes coconut oil, butter, nuts, fatty meats etc are not bad for you but you can't eat as much as you want. I ate paleo and went to crossfit for 12 months and didn't lose a pound yes my body changed and I was fit but I didn't lean out. Now I eat a more balanced approach, high Protein and veggies, lowish dairy and legumes and very low sugars and grains. Organic and home prepared whenever possible.

It's difficult because four weeks out from having my band I was really happy but I can say that the feeling of being able to eat actual chicken/beef/broccoli etc without getting stuck/throwing up/having that weird chest pain/not being able to eat but being hungry etc etc is such a relief. When I am full I feel full just as you do with a normal stomach.


  7. I do get slightly hungry now but easily fixed with a drink. I have three meals and one snack a day but Breakfast is usually a drink/yoghurt meal. I am still on the slightly soft phase, averaging 60/80 grams Protein, 30 fat and 50 max carbs. Today my meals are

    Ovaltine light with unflavoured Protein Powder

    Small white fish fillet, broccoli, sweet potato and light cheese sauce (portion fits into half a cup)

    Homemade pork burger, spinach and cream cheese stuffed mushroom (half a cup)

    Two slices deli turkey breast.

    Half a cup fills me up but it has to be denser foods, I could definately eat more than half a cup of purée.

    Around 700 calls daily

Had my band seven years ago dropped to 120lbs so 100lb loss, band slipped three years later due to two pregnancies (to be honest pretty much starved that weight off me, couldn't eat any nutrient dense food really due to over restriction) regained 60lbs. I wanted to get the sleeve and refused to go back to my initial surgeon unless he agreed to do it even though he was against it. It was only about four hours prior to surgery that he managed to change my mind. I thought that because a restriction only procedure had worked so well for me before it would again. His points were. 1) if you have a band your stomach will be damaged so they would have to make the pouch slightly larger because of scar tissue therefore you will probably be able to eat more 2) your body is not shocked by just going on a low cal diet again, it's used to it 3) it's reversible 4) they don't bypas as much of the intestines so malabsorption is not as high (this was my main reason I didn't want it) 4) usually a couple of good Multivitamins a day is all the supplements you need, with traditional rny it's more 5) probably won't suffer with as many extreme reactions to sugar/ fat as rny. 6) if you have a bypas then you have no where else to go, no more surgery, if you have a sleeve and it doenst work you will need to revise again anyway (especially relevant if you are self pay like me!)

    I am really happy I changed my mind, I haven't had any problems I still have slight reflux which they are hoping will settle in a month or two. That's the main reason I am happy I changed my mind. Reflux is normally worse with the sleeve. I felt fully recovered within a week (would have been earlier but it was the port removal pain that hurt)

    However I am sure there are many success stories with any kind of revision.


  9. Hi I had band to MGB revision four weeks ago my Bmi was 34 I am 23lbs down this month. I wanted the sleeve initially (massive slip with my band) but was persuaded to have mgb because often when our bodies are used to low calories as you have had a lapband and a sleeve we need the extra help to reset the body to lose, also I had major reflux from my band.


  10. I spent last year cross fitting I'm taking a break while I heal from my revision.

    I weighed 182 when I started and a uk 18 I weighed 182 ten months later uk size 14.

    Cross fit puts muscle on quick but will improve your body. When you do something like cross fit you have to focus more on measuring/ clothes size especially if you are somewhere around the weight you should be because you probably won't lose and may gain some weight but imagine how fit, healthy and toned you will be!

    So hard when you have been purely focused on losing for so long, good luck!


  11. Dumb question- is anyone eating ANY fat? I just realized that the last three days, I've consumed ZERO fat. Anyone else? My NUT said fat free/low fat products, but doesn't the body need some fat to absorb some Vitamins?

    Maybe I'm over analyzing it this early.....

    I think good fat is really important in a diet, although at the moment I am using 0% fat products I hope to move up to full fat as I go along and depending on how well my body tolerates it. This morning I tried 0% fat total yoghurt thinned down with full fat milk and a smidge of honey. I will see how that goes. I would like to be using full fat natural yoghurt, milk, butter etc in the future. My weight issues come from Portion Control and binges but generally through unprocessed good quality food.< /p>


  12. Had mine on the 13/02 I still have diarrhoea. I'm going for fluids first my food intake is like this

    Am half a yoghurt

    Mid morning 1 small cracker (cracker bread/Dutch toast, the melt in the mouth kind which I am allowed) with light cream cheese

    lunch couple of tablespoons of Soup with Protein powder mixed in.

    Afternoon half a yoghurt

    dinner Soup again and a cracker but split in two halfs.

    Then a Protein shake throughout the day a few dips here and there.

    With as much Fluid as I can manage which is definately not as much as I am hoping it will be in another week!

    I had my unexpected bypass on the 13/02. I am a lapband revision and originally wanted the sleeve, finally persuaded by my doctor to have bypass just before surgery because of scar tissue concerns and that he didn't want me to have an irreversible procedure. I'm still getting my head around the fact that I have had bypass!

    Hoping not to be a slow loser because I'm a revision as I am getting married in September. Cannot wait to start feeling healthy again and so happy not to have my band anymore!

  14. I prepped meals for while I would be away and for a week after. But now I love being in the kitchen and cooking for the family because I have always been a fanatic cook but 1) I'm not hungry 2) I can plan what I will cook because I'm not driven by my own cravings 3) there's always leftovers to portion up for people!


  15. I am so excited to revise in 13 days. I lost 100 lb with the band to bmi 21 but regained 50lb due to slippage And pregnancies. I feel that I lost the weight first time round in a really unhealthy way basically because it was so hard to eat Protein and veggies! In the last two years I have really educated myself on fitness and nutrition but like all of us I just can't lose the weight (portion control is non existent!) I feel like the sleeve will give me the right appetite for the kind of life I want to live with the added benefit of no sliming, pb'ing restricted foods, fills and getting stuck.
