    alli anyone??

Hi, I have not had wls I am really just in the 'fact finding stage' but I don't think your post was funny at all!:wink2: In fact it is a real concern I have for myself as I figure out what I should do. All I can offer is a sincere suggestion to seek therapy to work through your issues with why you use food in that way and why you are engaging in self sabotaging behavior. I found a really good therapist last year and it was very helpful doing one on one as well as group therapy about goal setting. I am just realizing that it is very, very hard to lose weight the old fashion way and the statistics on keeping it off are very, very slim. I did lose 45 pounds but the body/mind connection is a serious thing and I had to realize even if I lose 100 pounds I would still be considered “overweight” I am only 5’2’’. Anyway all of that is to say don’t look for another ‘magic bullet’ if you are paying DEMAND a consult with your doctor that is their job but people will get away with giving you sub par treatment if you let them. Find a therapist it can be a counselor you don't need to pay for a psychiatrist or psychologist, heck you could get a life coach! I hope that is helpful to you!
  7. Hi Sheena, When I went to the informational on Monday they were really "selling" the sleeve and it does sound like a good alternative! Please check back in with us along your journey!

    Your Decision

That is great Silve Fox!!!!:wink2: I agree the weight does not come on over night so if it takes a year or so that is still great. It took me almost a year to lose 45 pounds so I am willing to be patient it would still be fastest (in theory) so that is still great!!!

    Your Decision

Thanks! I am in Baltimore County!! :wink2: Yes the sleeve seems to be what they are really "selling" and you are right it has the same possibility of stretching as with gastric. Its a shorter surgery and she explained that it was a procedure that has been used for years for things like stomach cancer and a side effect was significant weight loss so it slowly evolved into another wls and they have data on the weight loss effect primarily from these other type of patients. And this in not to speak badly of myself but I know myself if I do anything it would have to be something that gives me long term control.

    baltimore area?

Hi I am in Baltimore county! I am still in the information gathering stages but I did attend the Sinai Hospital/Lifebridge seminar on Monday. Dr. Li was very candid and very, very funny. I like her approach she just gave it to us straight and said the band is only a tool that gives only so much help diet and exercise are the key. I like her!

You now will have a stong tool and a support system here so organize your energies around THIS goal which is to be healthier and lose weight with the lapband as a tool. A typical day in the life?

That's my issue I am a volume eater I don't have a favorite anything to be honest I can just eat and eat and eat. WW & therapy did help with that but as soon as I slack up like I started trying to date more my working out or cooking falls off and everything falls apart. I need to give up men for Lent this year! :wink2: Good luck with fill #4!!! :cursing: You are brave I am such a Scaredy Cat  You are now my lap band idol!!! Looking forward to your updates!

A typical day in the life?

Its sounds like you used a excellent WLS center! This hospital I am looking into seems very hands on like what you are saying. They have a nutritionist you are required to meet with before and after and there is a program fee of $150.00 that covers that as well as unlimited dietary consultations with her for 1 year. They even require that you pass a nutrition test in order to schedule surgery! :wink2: I guess that's a good thing:closedeyes: Man oh man you ladies are so helpful! Thank you! I am thinking I may want to start adding some protien shakes or slim fast type drinks and Soup to my diet now just so it isnt a total shock to the system!

A typical day in the life?

That makes sense I was shocked to read the thing about the diet pills anyway! Let me ask another question when you drink liquids do you feel the same in terms of fullness as when you eat the pudding? That's good that you can now have soft foods. That is something they didn't give us as a hand out what kind of foods/liquids we would be able to have. I am trying to wrap my mind around 14 days of liquids!

A typical day in the life?

Yeah that's not bad at all!! I told the Dr. at the seminar I went to that I have a veryyy low threshold for pain but she assured me they gave the best drugs around lol Re: the sweet spot, can you tell me, when you or your Dr finds it does it always stay the same or will it change as you lose weight? Also are you losing/have you lost the average 1-2 pounds a week and feel like that isn't as much as you want? I think what I find the most eye-opening about the seminar was that the Dr. was very, very candid that the band gives you a little edge vs. gastric which gives you a lot more. I am not a fan of slicing and dicing my insides but of late my eating habits have gone downhill and I need to really get it together. I am trying to get my workout back to where it was last year and then tighten up the diet but thank you for the candid post because its always better to get information first hand!

A typical day in the life?

Thanks for your reply! There is sooo much information out there but I like hearing it from people who have been through it! One quick question if you don't mind me picking your brain-Is there a reason why you have to wait the 2 weeks for the first fill? I have seen the term "bandster hell" I didn't realize that is what people were talking about! I did see another post where someone's Dr. gave them diet pills during that period to help with the hunger did your Dr. offer that? Or did you ask? I go to another seminar so much to think about!

    Carnie Wilson & Al Roker

When I went to the informational they made it clear that surgery is only a tool. In fact the Dr. said during her presentation The Weight loss success is based on 3 things 1. Diet/Nutrition 2. Exercise and a DISTANT 3rd she said was surgery. She said people can 'trick' the band and people can stretch the gastric pouch if the lifestyle has not changed it will come back for sure.

    Yogurt an cheese

Have you tried greek yogurt? Its thick and creamy some are like a soft ice cream texture. I eat Chobani they may sell it in your area. As for cheese I use laughing cow spread. They come in plain and onion, herb, garlic flavors they are great on crackers or an english muffin. I don't even eat sliced cheese most of the time. Hope that helps! :crying:
  22. Hi there! I know on the other post you said your insurance company will start covering lapband in Jan. but did you call them and did they say you would need that kind of proof? I thought I would and a referral from my Dr. and 3-6 motnhs of monthly visits to her as proof too but it looks like the insurance companies change rules from time to time b/c I was looking at old posts and others in my area w/ the same company have said they needed a few things and when I called they said I do not need a referral and all I needed to demonstrate was that I had a BMI over 40 and go to the Dr. I wanted b/c she was in their network. So call and check if you have not already. But if that is the case I would make an appt with my PCP asap and get the ball rolling. Good Luck!! Looking forward to your updates!
