  2. Hey Ladies! :tongue2: My eating has been way out of control lately! My first appointment is Tuesday the 19th I met with the Dr. and the nutritionist. I haven’t really thought much about it I am just going through the motions so to speak. Did anyone else experience this kind of ravenous like eating before surgery or before their first appointment? I am thinking maybe its nerves and some anxiety about really getting closer to making up my mind about surgery. I know I am not the best when it comes to expressing my feelings so I think I am eating as a way to deal… What about you? Any changes in eating patterns as you got closer to surgery:unsure:?

    WOW Ebony it'll be here before you know it!!! Good plan with the gym I think that will work for me too I really know the land is a tool so I have to get back into a real workout groove before surgery so it isn't a total overall all at once with diet and exercise you know! Hope everyone is doing well. I plan to join this Friday after work and go to my old gym Saturday and Sunday boyfriend is working this weekend *whew* :thumbup:

    Hey Jen! Good for you getting back on track please keep checking in!!:tt1: Ebony- I had a lazy week and weekend too but this is a new week! Wow your date is really coming up fast! Are you excited??!!!:cheers2: I made up my mind to join another gym:mad: I drive about 20 miles to catch a bus to work (I work in DC) and the bus takes a little over an hour and I just cannot get myself to the gym after a hour plus ride on the bus then a 30-40 drive in traffic in the evening. So the town where I catch my bus has a community run gym and they have Les Mills classes like my home gym so I am going to bite the bullet and join that way I get there by 4:45 and can take 5:30 classes and get at least 3 days in. If I get the band I need a workout plan already in place so I can do well so this I think will help! :yesnod: I am going to keep my other membership as well for my weekends and days off. This will be $88 a month just for the gym but in the end it will be worth it. Right now I am only getting in on Saturdays and Sundays and that is just not enough. I feel good by the time I get to my car its just the extra 30-40 minutes I take to drive in traffic home that kills my energy and make me say forget the gym so this takes away that excuse. I have a new boyfriend he's sweet and so nice so I blew off my workout this weekend I told him next time we are hitting the gym he can stand to lose some weight and he works out everyday and has lost 130 pound by just working out over the past year :eek: Its still very, very new but he was the first person I told I was considering the surgery he sounds supportive and that is good he's a sweetheart and I'd hate to have to kick him to the curb A/w I'll check in again soon! Keep up the workouts ladies!!!

    I am gaining weight

    Hi there! I am still just in the research phase but I see a lot of post and blogs that talk about 'bandster hell' which is that time period you are in post surgery but before the first fill. So don't stress what you are going through is common and will level out as you get to the 'sweet spot' in terms of the right fill amount. Glad you are going well. I heard the gas x strips and the liquid gas drops are good for gas so try that!

    >>>>So - 20 minutes on the 'ArcTrainer' - a different type of elliptical trainer. I felt it in my legs and my butt. Exactly where I WANT to feel it, so I'll continue with that machine. I'll also alternate with the other elliptical that involves your arms so I get a balanced workout. My gym got a few of those they seem so clunky maybe b/c I am so short but did try it once and it worn me out!!!

    GREATTTT WELCOME, WELCOME TRINA!!! Girl trust me in about 30 days Lippy (as I call her) will be your new best friend she gives you twice the calorie burn for 1/2 the time as the treadmill so its a get machine to workout on! Please check in often!! :thumbup:

    Hey Ladies!!! Ebony I didn't realize how fast your date was getting here!! WOW you must be excited!!! I mised the gym all weekend! I had chapter meeting Saturday morning, a date Saturday evening and then we meet again for brunch. Had a great time but here I go again with my dating vs. dieting mindset I gotta leanr to fit them both in. The weather is decent today its a lil overcast but not too hot or too cold so i'll got for a walk. I need to hit the gym tonight even if it just for the elipitical for 30 minutes. I didn't cook this weekend either so I need to get on that today too. :thumbup:

    Your Journey

    Since there are a few newbies (like myself) maybe we can do a roll call of sorts to see who is still around and where you are in your journey! I faxed my information packet Friday Andddd I am going to my first informational tonight :eek: I am about 99% sure this is what I am going to do b/c no matter how focused I try to be I tend to fall off the 'wagon' case in point I made it back to the gym yesterday :thumbup:after a 30 day "break." I packed my lunch, Snacks, etc and I still went for the iced lemon cake and chips :thumbup: I have about 100 calories left for the day and its only 1pm I know I need help & I am tired of fighting the facts; but that's a good thing! I am really inspired by the stories I have read. What about you? Pre-op, Post-Op, Weight loss thus far,etc.

    Morning Sistas! It was a crazy week didn't make it to the gym and I have a bunch of cases that hit me ith deadline all week. Its an excuse but it is what it is; until it isnt:tt2: I did make it to the gym Saturday for step class and I am going ina few for body pump and maybe body flow we'll see I was whopped last week after class:angry: A/w aside from that I am doing better with getting my food back on track. How all is well!!:tongue:

    Hey ladies how are you doing? I have skipped Mon, Tue, and today I am sure. It is too cold to walk outside and really Monday I was sore from my weekend workout. TOM is on but thats just an excuse I use. :0( I always have such a hard time juggling dating and dieting... I've been talking to this new guy and my focus is on that so I am slipping and trippin' I will get back on track this Saturday my energy is really low during TOM anyway and my weekdays are sooo busy. He is a trooper he gets up at 5am to workout! I am thinking Monday, Wed, Friday I should do an early workout and come to work late b/c I need to get at least 2 days in during the week... Ahhh well we'll see!!! Please check in!

    Your Decision

    Ladies what helped you to make up your mind to go with the lapband procedures vs. gastric bypass or the gastric sleeve? I will be honest, at the seminar I went to they seem to be in favor of the sleeve and they didn’t do a good job of “selling” the lapband procedure. I am really drawn to the lapband b/c of the long term accountability. I have known a few people who got gastric and slowly gained back a lot of weight. The Dr. made the point that the idea is to pick the best one that works for you and your lifestyle and not say let me try the lap band and if that doesn’t work I can do another (because there can be significant scar tissue in any procedure which would make a second surgery difficult). She also added that lapband is "this much help" as she held her index and thumb finger about 1 or 2 inches apart. What reason/s did you have to get the lapband (where ever you are on your journey)? When you went to the seminar what if any vibe did they give you about the options available to you? Thanks!

    Ebony all I can say is :w00t:WOWOWOWOW I bet you are sore that sounds like a real workout!!! More power to ya!!!! Its cold in Dc so skipped lunch time workout/walk today. I should go to the gym but I am a little sore from my workout plus it TOM :tt2: boo hisss but I will see how I feel on my way home worst case I will do something on ON Demand or a DVD if I don't do the gym. :wub:

    Well I went out last night with some friends for someone's birthday. I had half my meal we went to a Carribean spot and I has jerk chicken and rice and peas and fried plantian. A/w I was up late b/c some of the folks came back to stay at my house but I made sure I got to bed so I could be up for Body Pump which is t 9:30pm. I am sooooore Body Pump really works body parts you forget you have lol I am about to hit the shower and go do the eliptical for a few and the Body Pump. Oh also I am finally going to use by spa gift certificate that I got for my birthday back in June! I am going today and maybe going to catch a movie.

    :biggrin:Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww I made it to the gym :tt1: I did 45 minutes of Step aerobics and then I skipped abs and went on the eliptical for 10 minutes the I stayed for Body Combat:lol::tt2: I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :tt1::tt1::tt1: Body Combat! So I got in 2 hours of cardio:thumbup::thumbup: I am such a black or white, on or off, yes or no person so I am either a gym rat or not so I have to just jump back in feet first and get my stride back. I've been trying to ease back into working out but I see that just doesn't work for me. :cool2: A/w I feel good although I got a good look at myself in the mirror boy I can see the weight I gained back big time :thumbdown:but that's ok onward, upward. Tomorrow- Body Pump & Body Flow Thanks so much for joining me you all have inspired me so much!!!:tongue_smilie:

I think you, like most of us here are smart, strong, focused, driven Black women who can and have done just about anything we put our minds to so you are 110% right you can do this!     Sis I am going to go against the grain and play the devil’s advocate… I will make a generalization and say one thing about seeing a shrink or a therapist they usually only have one hidden agenda in terms of the advice or questions they ask you; they usually make statements and ask probing questions to move you from where you are to where you want to be. One thing I am seeing is the band is not the quick fix that I am really looking for. I now understand it is a tool and I spend a lot of time on the forum about the people who feel the band isn’t working for them and the slow loser one b/c there is a common theme the band is a lot of work. She may have been trying to spur you on given your driven personality, maybe she thought saying gastric was better for you would kick start that same drive for weight loss as you’ve exhibited in other areas of your life? I don’t know? Maybe? On the other hand she may genuinely not get how you are superwoman walking around and adding yet another burden or responsibility to your over booked calendar seems like a bad idea to her. Think about it... there’s seeing a nutritionist, getting regular fills, check ups, blood work, packing food, measuing food, counting calories, watching your diet, exercise, will power, family, school, work, other activities I am sure you forgot to even tell her about and maybe in her mind the way a person like you can maximize their weight loss is by getting gastric bypass b/c you lose weight so fast and don’t have to worry about monthly visits, fills, etc. I think maybe her perception was that you are determined to lose weight and with gastric it’s a given, with the band as the Dr. I spoke with explained it “the Band is this much help” and held her fingers about an inch apart her words were “if ALL you need is just a litttleee edge the band is for you” I was disappointed! But I get it. The band is work.... The Psych. may have had her idea of what was best for you thinking what if keeping up is overwhelming and you don't get the results you want and deserve? What if don’t reach your goal, how will that affect you in the long run? Again I am just guessing here… But let’s be clear if she says yes or no she still gets paid so what is her motivation (?) it wasn't to be mean to you... she could just have rubber stamped you like a lot of others do rather than really get you to think about this. Why else would she seriously, if not to make you stop and truly think about all your options? Like I said just playing the devils advocate I don't know what was in her mind and I think the lapband is a good option so is Weight watcher, Jenny Craig, and Nutrisystem any weight loss plan works its about what you can live with and have success with in the long run. So in the end its of course up to you and I think your mind is made up and I say stick to your guns! Every time a craving hits you or you want to skip the gym her annoying voice will be ringing in your ear as you near your goal!!! I am excited for you can’t wait to hear your progress!! As the saying goes Success is the sweetest revenge!!!! :smile::thumbup:

    Oh wow you are inspiring me maybe I go to the gym tonight? Depends on the traffic I guess that always messes me up I get on the road and my commute takes all my energy:sad: But worst case I have ON DEmand I can get something in tonight and that way no excuses tomorrow!!! :frown:

    So far I am going strong! I guess yesterday was not really a planned workout but I went to the bank at lunch time and I took the bus but it was at least a 15 minute walk from the bus stop. That coupled with some other walking downstairs, etc and other things like cleaning up last night I am sure I got me my (yeah I said it) 30 mins. :rolleyes2: This weekend is my big gym comeback I have NOTHING PLANNED!!!:cool2: Ok that's a lie I have a dinner birthday thing around 6pm but all day Saturday is mine and same for Sunday so my botty belongs to the gym!!!! :thumbdown::thumbup: Here is my plan for Saturday Step-9:30 Body Vive-10:30 (maybe) Sunday Body Pump-9:30 Body Flow-10:30 My pants are so tight it isn't funny!!! I refuse to buy bigger clothing again not with a closet full of stuff!!!:smile: I am starting to feel pain in my foot again and I don't like that one bit. I didn't have the best Breakfast but I have a WW meal for lunch and some fruits for Snacks.:thumbup: How is everyone doing so far???!!
