    December Surgery Buddies!

Hey!!! Another December 27th person. I think we have more than 3 now!! I have been going through all the stuff my doctors and nutritionist gave me. Organized my meal plans by weeks and just finished ordering the list of stuff they suggested. I already had most of it from previous diets. hopefully one of the other people will post too. They have made some plans for family for the first few weeks to make things easier. They have some great ideas too.
  2. Thank you, sadly most of my visits have been virtual because I live so far away from my dr office, so samples are not given 😒 hopefully post op they will give me some. I will check out the syntrx line as I have seen others. Most of the “name” drinks have been suggested not required. It was also suggested that I get unflavored protein powder since tastes change and it is the best to mix with just water or flavored water to get my protein in. I am actually sitting here getting my stuff ordered as I write this. I am a bit closer but I think I will feel better once I get my vitamins and drink in the house thank you for the help
  3. Yeah I bought a couple of 10 packs of Propels packets. I am going to get a chicken this weekend and start making some broth to freeze into portions. I looked at all the options for broth and it is loaded with salt ,which I am not a fan of, so I figure it is just best to make myself. I am sitting down now going over what I do and don’t need to actually order to cover 6 weeks of liquid diet (3 preop and 3postop) I think I am just feeling overwhelmed at what feels like the last minute now.
  4. I have seen some vitamin melts with iron at Walmart. My friend that had sleeve got hers from Bariatric Pal. I just find them expensive. 60 day $150 but it is bottles of all the different ones I will need in Melts. I think I’m going to bite the bullet and order the 60 day supply to get me started. I have a surgery date of 12/27/23 so I am hoping to be ready. I am reading back through the forum for all the suggestions and seeing what works for me.
  5. Hey there. I know I posted before but I can not edit that post so I am just doing another one. This is what I was talking about. Some of the areas that you are entering text (profile date of birth pop out) this was trying to make the previous post to create a new topic. I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem. But I can not see anything I am typing. This is what it looked like when I was trying to type. I had hit submit before I took the screenshot. I had to highlight the whole thing to read it before I posted.
  6. Yeah, I really didn’t mean food lol. I was meaning the drinks and broth. But that is good to know so I will get for the 3 weeks preop then I can do one week at a time post. I was thinking of getting a variety of flavor protein drinks since like you said some tastes change. I have been hearing that from everyone. Preop I will do protein shakes, chicken broth, SF drink mixed and popsicles. So post op I will do chicken broth, popsicles, a small pack of unflavored protein powder to add to water, and my sugar free drink mixes(like crystal light). wow that seems so much easier. Thanks for helping me think through a kind of shopping list.
  7. You need to be an advocate for yourself. If something felt off then your gut (pun totally intended) is telling you it’s not right. I would definitely work on getting any test test results that you have had done and find someone else. I am not sure what stat you’re in but I am sure there must be someone else to go to. Heck I live in Atlanta area and we have a bariatric surgeon every three blocks. You did the right thing and if they get defensive about it then that tells me they are the problem. I understand things happen sometimes but you need to be able to follow up. My Dr had a pre op appointment with me but he was called into surgery (he does other surgery too not just WLS) and instead of cancelling our appointment he called me and we talked on the phone while he was on the way to the hospital (It wasn’t an issue because it was mostly to go over test results and the next steps) it showed me that he was there for me if I need him. Just make sure you document everything you have done so far so you don’t have to start from square one.

    Feeling discouraged

Don’t be discouraged. The sleep study is nothing now. I did mine at home for like 6 days. Then did my follow up. Wow what an eye opener it was. But now I have my cpap machine (it is taking some getting used to) and my surgeon is fine with moving forward. Also, I agree with Netty. I failed to use my preop process time wisely and now I’m 4 weeks out and scrambling. Figure out your vitamins Do some prep meals if you have a family so you don’t have to cook after Get your stuff like journal pill crusher if you take daily meds Large water bottle Maybe if you’re working on the other prep stuff it will take your mind off the insurance thing. I wish I had done more preparation. Just think of it as a blessing you have more time to get things together.
  9. I would have to say it is all the fluids and antibiotics your on. I was in the hospital for a week with a similar situation and ballooned up 15 pounds which I am happy to say is now gone. Just remember to follow the plan, reach out to your dietitian and stay on track. Those pound will drop in no time.
  10. Hey. I am just starting to get all my stuff and I have asked a few different people that I know that have had surgery. One gets all her stuff from Bariatric Pal. They do have a meltdown vitamin package I found it is just very pricey. I saw some at Walmart if you search liquid or melts vitamins they will come up. Other then that the only other company o know ,because I met them at a conference, is Celebrate. I would trust them also. The women that run the company are also post op. Any they have vitamin packs specifically for your surgery type. They are great women.

    December Surgery Buddies!

I have to do two weeks liquid with one meal a day , then one week just liquids up to date before surgery. I’m sooo unprepared though. I feel so out of my element right now. The fear of messing up is starting to set in for sure

Right!! It is awesome! I just got my paperwork to read through. I’m a little upset with myself that I have not been more productive with my pre op stuff. I am so unprepared at this point. I have 3 weeks to get my garbage together. I got some of the suggested supplies today but still feeling so far behind. I did start watching some of the YouTube videos you suggested. I started with Dr Weiner. Now to read the 43 pages of pre op paperwork my doctor sent 😂 Ohhhhh!!! I learned how to reply lol🤣😂
  13. Soooo…. I’m a new user. I have to say the app is great in theory but it is a tad bit “clunky “ to navigate. When I went to update my profile with my date of birth the pop up came up and was all white. I could not see anything it took me a lot of trial and error to finally get my date in there. mostly it was just swiping and tapping then checking if I was right. Also I have not been able to figure out how to reply to anyone’s original post. When I go to the post from the email notifications it gives me the “reply to this post” option but not when I am in the feed and click on a post. I’m using an IPhone There are a few other things but I will play around with it for a while. My son does app work and website design so he has been helping me. I think the app needs more definition for each category >post>replies Like I said I’m new so it will take me a minute to get through the process

    December Surgery Buddies!

Yeah I haven’t done much pre- op like that wow! That is great. I have just been paying attention to my eating and drinking water. This has always been an issue for me. I’m up to three 24 ounce cups a day now so that is an improvement. I saw your post you did about your date but I don’t know how to reply or answer like you did. To be honest I’m finding the app rather clunky. I’m sure I will. I actually live alone so I don’t have to worry about anyone else but great planning for the kids. it seems like I have a bunch to catch up on. I will check out the videos thanks ! I wish you luck with your surgery. When we get to the “what have I done” stage at least we will have great supportive people to help.

    December Surgery Buddies!

Hey everyone. I’m new here to the community. I am on my second journey to WLS. The first time life got in the way. I just hit my surgery date. December 27th!! My friend that had surgery 7 years ago directed me to this community board I’m happy to be here and so nervous about upcoming changes. The reality just set in. Now I feel like I have to really buckle down. I’m worried I’m not prepared. Preop I’m good but my fears of unpreparedness is for after. I have as much information as I think I need it is just getting organized.
