May 2006 Band Crew ~ September Chat

I tried this recipe because it's Thomas Keller's. There's a reason Keller is the number one chef in America. This is the most basic recipe in the world, yet his techniques make all the difference. By far, the best roast chicken I've ever had. I'm so sold on this recipe and so is everyone I've make it for. You've simply got to try this as the breast meat is so moist that I could eat it with no problems. Make sure you do it EXACTLY as per the instructions. Dry the chicken and then dry some more, inside and out. You won't be disappointed. I added the thyme to the cavity of the chicken and didn't baste it with juices as it was so moist it didn't need it. Thomas Keller's recipe and commentary: One 2- to 3-pound farm-raised chicken Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper 2 teaspoons minced thyme (optional) Preheat the oven to 450°F. Rinse the chicken, then dry it very well with paper towels, inside and out. The less it steams, the drier the heat, the better. Salt and pepper the cavity, then truss the bird. Trussing is not difficult, and if you roast chicken often, it's a good technique to feel comfortable with. When you truss a bird, the wings and legs stay close to the body; the ends of the drumsticks cover the top of the breast and keep it from drying out. Trussing helps the chicken to cook evenly, and it also makes for a more beautiful roasted bird. Now, salt the chicken — I like to rain the salt over the bird so that it has a nice uniform coating that will result in a crisp, salty, flavorful skin (about 1 tablespoon). When it's cooked, you should still be able to make out the salt baked onto the crisp skin. Season to taste with pepper. Place the chicken in a sauté pan or roasting pan and, when the oven is up to temperature, put the chicken in the oven. I leave it alone — I don't baste it, I don't add butter; you can if you wish, but I feel this creates steam, which I don't want. Roast it until it's done, 50 to 60 minutes. Remove it from the oven and add the thyme, if using, to the pan. Baste the chicken with the juices and thyme and let it rest for 15 minutes on a cutting board. Remove the twine. Separate the middle wing joint and eat that immediately. Remove the legs and thighs. I like to take off the backbone and eat one of the oysters, the two succulent morsels of meat embedded here, and give the other to the person I'm cooking with. But I take the chicken butt for myself. I could never understand why my brothers always fought over that triangular tip — until one day I got the crispy, juicy fat myself. These are the cook's rewards. Cut the breast down the midddle and serve it on the bone, with one wing joint still attached to each. The preparation is not meant to be superelegant. Serve with mustard on the side and, if you wish, a simple green salad. You'll start using a knife and fork, but finish with your fingers, because it's so good.

    Protein Shake Recipes

Can you give the amounts of each as I'd love to try it but don't know how much to use. Thanks,
  6. jcbydesign

    Protein - Brands?

I use AnyWhey unflavored and love it. I use Synthrax protein powder: Essence Chocolate and Vanilla and Nectar Fuzzy Navel, Roadside Lemonade and Twisted Cherry. My daughter uses the Sytec Protein Delight in chocolate as she's a chocoholic and it has tiny chocolate chips in it. I understand the other flavors like Chocolate Coconut and Vanilla Very Berry are great, too. Hope this gives you some ideas.
  7. I use AnyWhey and it mixes instantly and is really indetectible. I also use it sometimes in skim milk and DaVinci SF Syrup...yummy Protein shakes. I had it a few months before I had the courage to try it...now it seems silly of me.

I bet you were thrilled to be able to ride the carnival rides again. Me, I'm pretty much a chicken so even when I reach goal will still be standing on the ground waving...LOL! Good luck on the last two pounds.

Oh I hope your fill kicks in! You don't have much to go either....big congrats to you, too!

3 fills and still not enough restriction

I've had two fills and no restriction and I didn't have any swelling after them. The only change is that I can't eat too fast or take too big a bites without chewing really well (found that out the hard way). I go in for third fill in September. I have 1.6 in a 4cc band. I wish you and I both success with out next fills.

Thanks! Every single pound is a miracle, isn't it? Sorry you didn't get any sleep. Kids and colds aren't fun especially since you feel so badly that they don't feel well.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ August Chat

I am so excited today because I am only one pound away from my twenty pound goal! After all those weeks of struggling I have been losing like crazy. Guess my bodies apologizing for putting me through the depo frustration... Hope the rest of you are being successful, too. Other than some unexplained port pain that I've had on and off for the past few weeks and not enough restriction I'm doing well. Hugs to you all.

We were banded on the same day and I haven't had any trouble with my port site until the last couple weeks and now it kind of pinches/aches. I can only think I did something to pull on it? I would have thought it would have healed and be snuggly settled by now. Wonder if anyone out there knows what this could be? I have been trying to be aware of what I do and have been putting my hand on the area when I exercise.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ August Chat

I went through a horrid period of weeks without losing so I know how difficult and frustrating it is. But I started moving again and the sunshine returned. Be sure to send a pic of your tat when it's healed...! This will pass and soon you'll be losing again, you'll see.
  24. jcbydesign

    Never admitted until NOW

Are you my twin? I would do the same thing plus I would sneak food at night when everyone was asleep. I am so grateful that the band has helped me stop that behavior. It's rather a miracle for me.

3 fills and still not enough restriction

I've had two fills and I have no restriction. I am disappointed because I could eat just about anything....I won't let myself but I certainly could eat a big meal at a restaurant. I am hoping that my next fill in September will do something. My surgeon is so conservative it drives me bats.
