    Did you stay overnight?

I had to spend the night and didn't find out about it until right before I went into surgery! I have Sleep Apnea and that was the reason he gave me. He didn't tell me this at my pre-op so be sure you discuss this at your appts. The only pain I had was a level 4 in recovery and got a shot of morphine and that was all I needed, NO MORE PAIN, not even over night!! I was banded on the Janurary 16th and driving on the 20th. Doing great have lost 14lbs. so far. Started on mushies and am okay with that. Just be sure you chew, even JELLO!!!!!
  2. I was banded on Jan 16th and ever since then I have a red rash all over my belly. It is getting worse and looks like measles but I know it's not. It itches really bad and I think it is from something they used on me during surgery. Have any of you had this happen. I have my first post op appt. the first Monday of Feb.
  3. Oh yes, I have showered MANY times since my surgery. I was banded last Friday and stayed the night (sleep apnea) got released and went home and showered. This stuff is spreading. I do think it is something they used thou.
  4. I am 5 days post op and am having a problem with noise and knot in my throat. The noise coming out of my throat, not a burp, kind of like a squeak hurts like heck. It does hurt to swallow even water let along mushie foods. I am going back on liquids today, but just not sure what this is. I did not have a barium swallow done before my band. I did not have this in the hospital so not sure what is going on. It is NOT GERD, this starts before the liquids hit my stomach.

    Noise and Knot in throat

Thanks Jodi, I hope this is the answer for me. How long did this issue last with you. I hate it when it feels like a huge lump in my throat, sometimes it almost impossible to burp, I have to force it out and then I feel a little better. But it comes right back when I go to eat or drink, it is maddening!!!!!!!!!

    Noise and Knot in throat

no, but years ago I had a barium swallow and they saw a small one. My surgeon did not say he saw anything or at least he didn't tell my husband that I had a hernia.
  7. I am 5 days post op, had my band Jan 16th. The last couple of days I have had a noise in my throat and a KNOT that hurts when I swallow water or mushie foods. I tried to eat "soupy" cream of wheat this morning and only got 2 small bites down before the noise and pain started. Has anybody else had this? It is NOT GERD. I have nothing coming up just when it is going down. This also happend last night when I was just SIPPING my water! Any ideas??????? I did not have a barium swallow, was wondering if I should have had one????
  8. Can someone tell me if this is right....I have tried hot tea, room temp sugar free kool-aide, surgar free popcycles, water, and every liquid inbetween and it all seems to hurt like heck to get it down:cursing:! It just feels like a rock sitting inside of my chest, is this GAS? I am suppose to be drinking at least 2 liters of fluid, yea right:eek:! I am not even close to that, this is Monday and I was banded on Friday. I have 5 incisions which I was kind of shocked about, thought maybe 3 -4? It kind of sounds like I am on track for the gas pains and problems drinking, I have no fill in my band, not until 6 weeks out! I have also gained 2 lbs since I have been home on liquids???
  9. Hi Kris, That would be great to keep in touch! We use to live in MA, Westford to be exact. That was several years ago when we were military. I just tried a Gas-X and see if that helps! Jan
  10. Hi All, Well it's been two days and all is good so far. Hungry as heck but I am drinking my liquids so that does help some. I was admitted to hospital at 7:45, taken to my holding room, changed clothes, had vitals taken, then around 9:30 taken down to holding area where IV was started and given shot in belly for blood clots. They did have trouble starting IV, couldn't get a good vein in hand had to use my left arm, which is LESS PAINFUL!!!!! Doctor came in and talked to me a couple of minutes and then lowered the boom! I wanted to go HOME the same day but was told that since I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea I had to stay the night, was not happy but did obey. Came out of surgery okay and was taken to recovery for 1/2 hour, given 2 small shots of morphine to help with pain, which did the trick for me. Sent to my lovely room where husband and DSI were waiting for me. Told them to go home since I would be sleeping which they did. (They went out to eat) "Olive Garden" DARN IT! Anyways husband came back the next day and picked me up and took me home. Had a lot of Lower gas, if you know what I mean, no gas above waiste line??? They gave me BIG bottle of liquid pain med but don't need any of it. Couldn't sleep last night, to hyped about everything I guess. Went to church today and then went to my son's house, and on to resturant with DH, he ate and I had iced tea, I am doing okay.. The only thing I am having trouble with is burping after taking each drink of water, not sure what that is from. I am on liquids only until next Friday then on to mushie food, like apple sauce for 3 weeks then on harder food from there. :huh2:
  11. Hi All, Well tomorrow is my banding day, Jan 16th. I can't wait to get it over with. I have been on a roller coaster since Aug. and am just over it. I have lost 10lbs. on my 1 week pre-op diet of 2 Slim Fast drinks and one Healthy Choice Meals a day. I cooked up several meals for my husband last night so he is taken care and I don't have to deal with cooking for a week. I know he can take care of himself but I just wanted to do it for him. My Surgeon usually wants his pts. to stay over night, but I am going home after surgery, I don't like hospitals and the noise!!! Wish me luck tomorrow, and thank you all for all the wonderful tips and ideas you have shared.
  12. Can anyone tell me if they woke up after surgery with an elastic band around their mid section. I had one on after my gall bladder surgery this past summer. I am getting banded January 16th, getting very nervous. The elastic band helped a great deal with pain etc. I may bring my old band to wear home which might help with the bumpy roads..........Jan
  13. Hi, All! I am getting banded next Friday, Jan. 16th. My question is this, I started on pre-op diet today, only 650 calories aday and my stomach is on fire, what is going on? Has anyone else gone through this? Also was very anxious but now I am getting scared!!!! I remember the pain from my gall bladder surgery this past summer. Will the Lap Band pain be about the same?? I woke up in pain but they gave me a shot and that took care of it, got dressed and went home and took one pill that night and that was it for the pain meds for me, hope I am that lucky for Lap Band.

    Tricare Prime {south}

My husband is retired military and we have Tricare Prime also. I am having my banding done on base but went downtown to the Psyc visit and Tricare picked up 100%! DO NOT pay that bill yet. Call Tricare again and talk to a manager. We just got a bill from a local hospital for my DH, who was admitted with chest pain, the bill was $52,000, we owed $1500, went to Tricare and they said we owed $25.00! You need to get someone who is incharge. Who submitted your paper for your band???

    I am this shallow?

You go Maranda and GOD BLESS YOU! I too am in the same situation, but a different story. I have told my DH family about me having surgery Jan.16th. On Christmas no one said GOOD LUCK or NOTHING! 99.9% of them are over weight and need to lose a good 50lbs (there's 53 in the family). So I know it will be the same for me. BUT, I am not doing it for them (piss on them) I am doing it for ME!!!!!!!! I put most of my weight on by sitting for 8 years taking care of my mother (in my house)who lay in a hosptial bed unable to speak or eat (feeding tube), she had strokes. She died 6 years ago, and I know she is watching over me and wanting me to get this weight off. Don't do it for them, do it for yourself and most of all do it for US who love to hear the good stories of weight loss, I am proud of you even thou I don't know you!! I also have a brother and sister whom I haven't talked to in over 6 years. My sister didn't even attend our mother's funeral!!!! My whole family is gone, so I am doing this for myself, DH and DS, they are soooo proud of me..........Jan

    Banded...Day 2

Hi Beachwalker, I lived in Westford, MA about 16 years ago. My husband was stationed there. We now live in the Dayton area and I am having my band put on by a military doctor on base. I have been to several of their support groups and you hear both sides of the stories. The surgeon sits there and listons to us then talks the last hour. I start my pre-op diet a week before surgery, which consists of 2 Slim Fast drinks and a Healthy Choice meal for dinner, that is it, NO SNACKS! I am getting very anxious about this just hope I can do it......

    Banded...Day 2

Dear Anabeni, Thank you for your post. My surgery date is Jan 16th. The closer it gets the more nervous I get. I have had several surgeries before so am not new to the OR. I had my gall bladder out this past summer so my surgeon is using the same port holes. Thanks again............
  19. Hi jezebel,

Yes, I am getting my surgery done on a military base. They have 2 bariatric surgeons on board. I am so excited. My date is Jan. 16th.

  20. Hi Puna Teri,

Just found your post to me. I am still very green about this web site, still learning how to navigate to the different sites. I live in Ohio and I am having my surgery done at a military base. I see my surgeon on Jan. 12th one last time before the big day (16th). Getting very anxious. Not a lot of support from husbands family. They are all over weight and have been struggling for years, yoyo dieting and such. I am sick of the years of dieting and decided to do something drastic. My husband supports me 100% and my 34 year old son is scared something is going to happen, well for cryin out loud, yes something will happen, I will be healthier! Glad to talk to you.....Jan

    CPAP Machine

Thank you all for your anwers to the CPAP. I will put this question on my list when I see the surgeon one more time on the 12th before my Jan. 16th surgery date. Yes, I am so excited and anxious too! My family (SIL's, BIL's & MIL) doesn't talk to me at all about it. Most of them are over weight, so not sure if they want to have this done but can't afford it or they are jealous of me doing this. They treated me kind of cool at Christmas so not sure what to think??? I DON'T CARE, THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY PLEASE! Goooooo 2009!!!

    CPAP Machine

January 16, 2009 Bandster here. Just wondering about CPAP Machine. I read on a post where here doctor told her NOT to use her machine? I have obstructive sleep apena and can't sleep without my machine. Has anybody else been told not to use their machine? Also did you have to bring it with you to the hospital during recovery? My surgeon would prefer his patients spend the night, me, I am going HOME!:wink2:

    January '09 banders

My surgery date is January 16th, will start my pre-op diet of 2 slim fast and 1 Healthy Choice Meal a day. This will be for a week, then 2 weeks of liquids. My surgeon does not put a fill in during surgery as he said this is what causes bands to slip! I am having my surgery done in Dayton, OH:thumbup:

    Tricare Insurance?

I am also Tricare Prime East (OHIO) and it took forever for me too. I am using the base as they have a surgeon who is a Bariatric Surgeon, as a matter of fact they have two now. I had the referral from my PCM, then I had to attend a Lap Band class, then on to nutrition, psyc appt which took a couple of weeks to get in, then appt with surgeon to talk over my questions and see which surgery I wanted, gastric or band. I have another appt on Jan 12 for pre-admission, labs, nutrition class, and surgeon again to make sure nothing has changed with me. My surgery is scheduled from Jan. 16 and I will be on a pre surgery diet of 1 week of liquids plus a frozen diet meal for dinner, then post op is one week of liquids, 2 weeks of mushy foods, then soft foods. He does not do a fill during surgery as he said that is what causes band slippage. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jan

    Anyone getting banded in January

Hello to all the New Year Hotties! I also have my date for surgery which is January 16th. I started this jorney back in August and have finally completed jumping through the hoops for everyone. I am having mine done on a military base. I have attended some of the support groups and they are very informative here. One girl had a band and she was not happy so she is on the list for Gastric Bypass, no way, that is not for me. I have severe diverticulosis so I don't want anybody messing around with my colon. I also have a C-Pap machine which I dearly love, I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea and had one heck of a time sleeping at night. Would go to bed around 11:00pm and wake up at 3:00, felt like someone was choking me, couldn't get my breath! I would get up at 3:00am and do laundry/watch TV/play on the computer/ what ever!!! But, with my machine I don't get up until 7:00am or so, it is GREAT! My doctor told me that his patients usually stay over night after lap surgery, but I told him that I would prefer to go home and he said that was fine as long as everything is going okay for me. I hate hospitals, they are too NOISY at night!!!! And the beds SUCK! I will be on a one week diet of 2 proteins shakes and one frozen Healthy Choice Meal aday. Then after surgery one week of liquids only and the next 2 weeks of mushy foods, then onto soft foods. He does not do fills during surgery, he said that is what causes the most slips of the band. He said it is best to let your self heal first. Well that is about all. Looking for a slimmer me in 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year Everyone! Jan
