Update been 9 days since surgery and feel great. No pain. Able to drink fluids without issues. Protein intake no issues. Surgery did it job I am not hungry and able to follow stages with out issues. Weighed myself for thr first time, and down 16 pounds.

Awesome! I am 17 days out and have finally started getting some energy back because I'm now able to eat yogurt, thinned refried Beans, hummus, and tuna.

Anyone having food dreams? I had my bypass on the 15th and I’m not hungry and don’t really care about food. But today I had this funny dream about my husband bringing me nachos and we both just forgot all the limitations. I ate some and then I freaked out because I thought it was going to cause some sort of catastrophe. I woke up laughing about it.

OMG, some of the food dreams I have had right before and since my surgery have been crazy- me eating lots of Pasta and pizza and chocolate and oh gosh, candy and snack bars. Grabbing handfuls of the things and stuffing them in my mouth 😂

2 hours after, the clinic calls me to say that the dietician spoke with the surgeon and that BED being a new info for him, he is requesting a clearance from my psychologist to go ahead. I've seen this psy only 3 times so far....

My program required me to meet with a psychologist that I had never seen before, for all of 30 minutes, for my final approval. It sounds like you are working very hard on yourself! Sorry to hear that this is a bump in the road for you, but I am positive that if you keep persevering, you will get your clearance.

How did you all who are Water drinkers overcome your water intake and hydration issues for those who must drink water as a necessity because of their physical demanding job? Also, did anyone who is my height 5’8 - 5’9 get surgery around 230- 240 pounds? What was your results? What did doc say?

I am like you, I need to drink a LOT of water. Before surgery, it was nothing for me to drink 80 oz. or more of water every day. I'm 6 days post-op with RYGB and the most water I've been able to directly drink is 56 oz. in one day. I'm still on a liquid diet, and that's definitely helping me get more water in. From what I understand, as time goes on we are able to drink more normally than we can right after surgery.

I started with a consult back in December of 2022. I'm 5'10, and always hovered around 250-260. I could focus on food and exercise and could never break 230. I also have been able to find flattering clothes and seemed to be able to "carry my weight well," like you, too.

As of yesterday, I was down to 220 from my highest weight ever at 276 a few years ago. When I saw that number, I could actually imagine being below 200 for the first time in my adult life, and I got emotional.

I don't wanna tell you what to do, but going in for a consult might help you make your decision. My program and insurance required me to be on a medically supervised diet for at least 6 months before surgery. And I had to prove that I could lose at least a bit of weight by tracking my food intake, taking nutrition education classes, and basically having them monitor my progress with an app on my phone. They were able to get Wegovy for me to jump start my weight loss, and I was at 224 the night before I went in for surgery. I weighed 263 when I began the program.

Hope some of this helps, and I truly wish you good luck as you learn more!

Hi Steve. I will be having Bypass on 08/31 and i have this fear that wont go away about me not being able to get my fluids in. Tips please.
    Thanks so much

I'm not Steve, but thought my experience might help allay your fears. Sips. Constant sips. If I get up to go to the bathroom at night, I pause to get a couple sips in. I am 5 days RYGB post-op, and it has been constant sipping. I could down 12 ounces of Water in one gulp before surgery. I'm also eating broths for all meals, and having one sugar-free Gatorade a day.

Did they not send you home with any pain meds??? I can't imagine how mine would have felt if I had none. Ouch!!! Glad you are through the worst of it.

But....in the end it's all worth it. My doctor told me after he repaired the Hiatal hernia that he stitched my diaphragm smaller. I wonder if that's what they did with you ??

So, between having the RNY and repairs, I haven't had any more episodes of GERD. "Knock on wood."

Oh yeah, I was definitely sent home with pain meds, and then have the okay to take 500mg Tylenol in between those doses. I do know that the hole in the diaphragm was stitched smaller to keep the hiatal hernia in check. The surgeon told me that all of the pulling on the diaphragm was the cause of the pain. The pain would radiate out into my shoulders and neck. A very crazy feeling. Simply breathing was painful. Breathing is much easier today, and I'm grateful for that!

Hope that the GERD stays in check for you! "Knocks on wood," too.

I had a pretty good amount of pain week 1 but then I was in surgery for 4 hours for RNY and a large hernia repair. The pulling sensation was the worst at my right incision site mainly when I transitioned from lying to sitting or sitting to standing. Even at week 2.

I had a hernia repair, too. I'm 4 days out from surgery, but that first and second day were horrible. I truly hope to never experience a sore diaphragm again.

Just had my surgery last Thursday August 10th. The gas pains are not joke but you must move around.

I had my surgery on the 9th... This has been a roller coaster ride! My pain levels were up to 10 a few times with tears in my eyes, but I am feeling much better than I did on the day of surgery. Hope you are moving around a bit more, too!

  11. My surgery date is August 9th, and I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet. Less than 1000 calories, 2 Protein Shakes and two low carb Snacks, and 1 low carb meal at supper. Days 10-13 will be liquid diet only.

I've been able to lose 30 pounds before surgery with the help of injectables, increasing exercise, and modifying diet. Off of the injectables now and have had to limit exercise. I've been struggling with the feelings of hunger.
