  1. For the first time in years, I'm under 200 pounds. Woo hoo. Lost 34 pounds pre-op and now 24 post-op. Surgery was on October 2nd. Weight loss has been slower than I expected, but my nutritionist said that I have lost 48% of my excess weight and am right on track. Yay!

There are some people who continue to feel hunger after the surgery. Be careful you’re not confusing real hunger & head hunger. Real hunger feels different. I feel like something is wrong & restless. I never want a specific food, favour or texture. And there is a reason why I feel hungry - like I haven’t eaten for a few hours. It does take time to work out your cues for real hunger.

The other issue to consider is you’re still healing. Someone recently posted their surgeon said it can take 8 weeks or more to fully heal internally after a sleeve. This includes your nerves which were cut which is why our messages for hunger, satiety, etc, aren’t accurately felt, or in the case if your restriction not felt at all during this recovery period. It’s why we have to be careful of how much we eat & drink. I always say all because you can doesn’t mean you should. You may be able to eat a portion larger than you’ve been told or drink more but the signals telling you stop or warning you of danger aren’t working properly. Go slowly making small changes. Best not to push to see how much you think you can do.

There’s lots of little things to learn about post surgery, consider & most importantly learn about yourself. But you’ll get there.

All the best with your recovery.

Thank you so much for your response. It could be head hunger. I'll have to pay attention to the difference between head hunger and real hunger.

  3. I had my VSG on October 2nd. I started real food this past Monday. I'm losing an average of 3 pounds per week. My problem is that not only am I hungry, I seem to be able to eat more than what I should be. It feels like I still have my entire stomach. Anyone else experiencing this? My surgeon says I'm doing great, but I'm not so sure.

Yes my surgery was October 2nd It is going ok. I am 68 and 4ft 8in I was 203 at surgery date now 188 I feel like I am not losing much. How about you?

Hi there. It sounds like you're doing well. As for me, I'm 60, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 223 at time of surgery. I have only lost 12 pounds so far and am at the dreaded 3 week stall. I just have to be more patient.

  5. Tomorrow is my big day. I have to report to the hospital at 8 for a 10 a.m. surgery. I have had a lot of surgeries, so I'm not particularly worried about going under or anything. I worry about pain management and the 6 weeks after surgery and sticking to it. I have to remind myself that this is a tool for me to use and that I need to very conscious of what I'm eating.

Good luck to everyone else having surgery this week.

  6. Hi everyone. I know there's another theead like this under the Gastric Sleeve part of the forum, but I thought I'd start a thread here to be more inclusive to people who are having a variety of surgeries.

I'm scheduled to have my VSG on October 2nd. I'm looking forward to a new start. I'm 5'5" and 235 pounds. I have lost 25 pounds so far. My pre-op diet starts on September 11th. It's Protein Drinks plus up to 7 ounces of Protein only foods. Not looking forward to that. Back in 2010 I had a lap band. I lost 122 pounds and kept about 65 pounds off. I had to have it removed last year because it slipped, but I had already decided to have a revision to the sleeve.

Anyone else scheduled for October surgeries?

  7. It took a long time because of delays in appointments with the nutritionist and because it took a while before I was psychologically cleared. My med manager is against anyone having bariatric surgery, and her bias was a disservice to me. By the time the surgery happens, it will be over 15 months.
