  1. The pre-op diet/fast with 20 grs of protein is to shrink and defat the liver. Shrinking the liver helps make the stomach more accessable for banding.

I'm home from the hospital. All went well, but I had a liver biopsy done at the same time as the LapBand, so right now I feel like someone stomped on my stomach. I have Hepatitis C, and being right there to place the LapBand provided an opportunity to get some real-time photos of my liver.

  2. iI think if you posted a question about protein and the pre-op diet, you'll find it's not unusual to limit protein intake to 20 grams. Actually, I think it is more unusual to have a doctor allow allow 60 or more grams pre-op.

  3. Hi,

Thanks for the response to my blog post.

You know, I know I have to just set my brain on the "ready mode".

Regarding bread & peanut butter; As far as I have been told and according to my Lap Band educational manual, they want you to stay away from white bread, but whole grain & 100% whole wheat is ok, especially toasted, and peanut butter is allowed, too (the natural, like smuckers. Yummy! just like roasted peanuts). Maybe you might want to post that question and see what the responders say. I wouldn't put a huge glob on the toast, and I'd chew very well.

    Thanks again!
