    Lost my Ring!

Ohhh, I'm so sorry you lost your ring, how upsetting! I can't wait until I can get my ring off to clean it. Believe it or not, even with a 59 pound loss, I can not take it off comfortably yet! Time to look for the positive and find that amazing ring you thought you would never have! Have fun shopping!! P.S. - I think I would have my husband of 24 years propose again just for the fun of it when he buys a new one...

    Empty Lap band

I'm so sorry to hear that you have had problems. I guess it's like anything else, there's always that percentage that just causes problems. You sound like you are motivated to sustain your weight loss and your doctor also sounds like he is going to be there for you. I wish you the best and hope you are feeling better soon! Good luck!

Confessions of a Bander Who Knows Better

You can definitely do this!! Suffering the loss you had is very difficult, you're bound to fall back on a few of the bad, comfort habits that you had. Fortunately, you have recognized this and are now ready to get back on track and do what you need to do to make yourself feel better. You didn't slide far at all and I'm sooo jealous of your tremendous loss to begin with. You won't have any problems, just do it!!! By the way, the person who asked you that question, he or she is just an idiot. Sounds like you handled it well staying professional and thinking to yourself, what is wrong with this person!??!? Good luck with everything, keep us posted!!

Advice about going out to movies

You're speaking my language!! My one indulgence is popcorn. It's the only snack I ever eat (and I eat air popped popcorn about 3 evenings per week.) My husband makes it for me fresh and I put on low-sodium salt and it's healthy as can be. My doctor is thrilled that this works for me. Now, on the bad side, when I go to a movie, I allow myself popcorn (I know they don't make it as healthy as my husband) and a small coke - I know, I'm not supposed to, but I only allow myself this luxury at the movies and I really don't go all that much (maybe once per month.) I have been giving some thought to bringing a Water and bringing a large bag of my husband's homemade popcorn but I'll wait until I'm on a plateau and no longer losing. I have found if someone questions me on something food or drink wise, I just tell them I have a medical condition and have to have my food prepared a certain way. It's never not worked! Have some popcorn, if you can, or you will feel as if you are denying yourself and that could then turn into a craving! I know I couldn't live without it!!

    Removal of Lap band

Good luck to you! I'm sorry to hear you had problems with the band but am happy for you that you are looking at another avenue to gain further success. I say further success because you have lost 75 pounds and that is quite an accomplishment. I do understand your frustration over the time period it took, though. You're lucky your insurance company has approved you so quickly, I'm sure that makes you even happier. Well, check back in with us and let us know how it goes with the bypass. The best of luck to you!

I figured out my ultimate WLS goal

What a great attitude! Everyone should feel this way, after all, what do we want to lose the weight for - to get around better and feel more healthy! You eloquently put this into words, I would say you are well on your way towards success! Thanks for sharing and good luck!!

Irritated with People-how to deal with it

Wow, I consider myself so lucky now that I've read these posts! All my family (that's all that knows about the surgery) does is say, "Wow, you look unbelievable!" I certainly can live with that. They never ask how much I've lost but sometimes I volunteer it when they are giving me compliments (I have 7 brothers and sisters and they are all naturally thin and beautiful, add to that a mom who looks like a movie star and it's kinds tough!!) The one person I've told on the outside (my secretary) does sometimes bother me by saying, "You look horrible in that, go buy some new clothes, they're much too baggy!" She's kind of funny about it at times but still supportive I guess. I think in time, the comments and questions will decrease or go away and all you will get are the compliments. Hang in there!

What do you do with a disappointing weight loss?

It happens to the best of us and I think you have already been given the best advice in the posts before mine. Our bodies vary in weight for so many different reasons, a 3 pound gain could be the fact that you weighed yourself at the wrong time or had a late dinner!! Don't be discouraged, just keep your head up and know you are heading in the right direction - your progress has been great, keep up the good job! Good luck!

Where to begin again-lack of focus

Don't give up! It is hard but then again anything worth something usually is. I was where you are, I lost a lot, then regained, and now I'm losing again. I try and look at every pound as a milestone and that gives me the motivation to try harder. Sounds like you have had a really tough time and that you need a good break. Perhaps your medication for your illness makes you gain weight - I know my brother who is bipolar (and one of my best friends) was on one medicine and it made him gain weight. Just a thought, I'm not sure if that is the case with you... Regardless of the reason, keep your head up and go for it! We all can do it, it just takes the staying power to keep on track. Good luck to you!

    Marriage Advice

I think, just like any other large change in life, he just needs time to adjust. He's probably just a little insecure right now with you starting to look super hot and, I'm sure, getting a lot more attention now that you've lost such a great amount of weight. My husband says little comments like, "So, when are you going to run off on me, you certainly get enough attention!" I just laugh it off and always reinforce that the only person I want attention from is you! Your husband is a chef and, I'm sure, he loves cooking special dishes just for you, now that's a little harder. I think time will take care of him understanding that you just can't eat what you used to and he will adjust. But I do think it will take a little time. Share your post with him, let him see how upset you are over these things and maybe he will adjust more quickly. Heck if you were looking to leave him, you wouldn't be saying on a public board you want to jump him (LOL!) Now that you mention it, that is a real benefit of losing this excess weight... But seriously, just hang in there. You have 16 years on your side and this thing will work out. Just reinforce you love him, he's the only one for you, and laugh off the attention you're getting from others!! Take care and let us know how it goes!
  18. CONGRATULATIONS! I can't wait to be making the same statement as you!

My band did NOT slip! Hooray!

Thanks for sharing the great news, I'm so glad you are okay and all that was needed was an adjustment. You are now back on your way to an amazing journey! Good luck!!
  20. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss and hope that your wonderful memories can sustain you through this hard time. Your band will be fine and you seem to know exactly what is going on and why you're wanting to binge. I truly believe understanding that is halfway there to correcting it. Stay strong but allow yourself to cry and grieve. This, too, shall pass and your memories will get you through. Good luck.

When will I need smaller clothes?

Soon! I wondered the same thing then all of a sudden it seemed like my clothes size went down three or four sizes overnight. I think it must take time for the body to shrink on the outside after losing weight because the scale is going down and the clothes size remains the same. When it happened, though, it happened really quick. I'm now down 6 clothing sizes and just splurged last weekend on some nice new clothes. What's interesting is all of a sudden people say Oh my gosh, you lost so much weight! The funny thing to me is I had been losing all along but the new fitted clothes made a difference. Good luck, 36 pounds is significant and you're clothing size shrinkage will soon follow! WAY TO GO!!!

    Diabetes & the Band

Hi! I was a type 2 Diabetic until my surgery. I have lost 70 pounds and have no signs of diabetes anymore. My cholesterol has also gone back to normal. I was on a considerable amount of medication for my diabetes. Another problem I had was sleep apnea and had to use the machine. That is also gone. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best thing I ever did! You have gone through quite the journey already. I hope you continue to grow strong and healthy. Congratulations on losing so much weight so far, you are quite the inspiration!! Great job!
  23. GOOD LUCK! How exciting. You do not need to be nervous, everything will go fine and you will be feeling really good about yourself in just a few short weeks. You'll be amazing at the weight loss you get right after surgery. The only irritant I had after surgery was the gas used during the surgery. That was a little painful but it went away within a few days. I'm so excited for you, Monday will start a wonderful journey for you and I know you will be successful. Don't be scared and GOOD LUCK!!

How would I know if my band has slipped?

Joy, I hope everything is okay! It does sound like an overfill. My doctor actually does the fill under fluroscope which shows the liquid that can pass through. I hope all is well, keep us posted!!

    Grandpa Frumpy

I love these stories!!! Kids are really amazing with the names they come up with! In our family, we have a grandma kitty kat (she has a cat), a regular grandmom (she doesn't have a cat), and grandmom nay nay (she has horses!) I would be flattered to be called the Frumpy, or Skinny or etc. when I used to be the fat one!! I guess my day will come...
