    How is everyone doing?

I’m doing great! Lost 48 lbs so far, feel fantastic. I mostly eat Protein, but I have been sampling with other things and find that some things don’t agree with me, like bacon for sure, and oatmeal. But otherwise most food is fine and I am so happy about it. I never did this for weight loss but it’s been incredible anyway, and I am really enjoying new clothes.

  3. I’ve gone from 233 to 195, 38 pounds. I appreciate having visuble collarbones again. Weight is just melting off.

I still have a Protein Shake every day, and then I’m eating almost entirely Protein otherwise, but occasionally sneak in a little bit of something else, like today I had two tacos and I ate the corn tortillas.

I haven’t had any particular problems except for getting in enough Water. I am really not doing well with that. I have also started drinking coffee coffee and that helps to get more liquids in.

I always biked a few miles every day and I’m continuing that but I start Pilates next month as well.

  4. I had my surgery Aug. 15 and have struggled with eggs too. Very heavy in my stomach, though I can now eat most of one.

I DID have dumping syndrome after having 1/2 cup of chicken broth with coconut milk in it, and I hope none of you ever get it. It was terrifying because I had no clear gastrointestinal problems, instead my head felt like it swelled to twice its size, I could hardly breathe, and I had near-convulsive shaking for a couple of hours. And then…poof, gone.

I honestly thought I was having a stroke, but Dr. said it was “just” dumping. Do go easy on yourself!

“I'm sending you internet hugs and so many well wishes for tomorrow! It is rough at first, but every single day does get a little bit better

This is so true! I’m 2 weeks out as of tomorrow, and everyday there are huge strides.

One thing: dumping syndrome is no joke, so be sure to do what your medical team is telling you to do and don’t do something stupid like have a half-cup of Thai Soup broth with coconut milk in it—like this idiot did. (Me😬)

You are going to be just fine, @Danielle07!

  6. Anyone having food dreams? I had my bypass on the 15th and I’m not hungry and don’t really care about food. But today I had this funny dream about my husband bringing me nachos and we both just forgot all the limitations. I ate some and then I freaked out because I thought it was going to cause some sort of catastrophe. I woke up laughing about it.

  7. While you are recovering, the nursing team will be monitoring your oxygen levels closely. I just had my surgery about a week ago and I have apnea. And I know a few times I would fall asleep without my CPAP and a nurse would come in and tell me that I needed oxygen and that would remind me to just put my CPAP on. You’ll be OK!

  8. I had a pretty rough go. I actually ended up back in the hospital after being discharged because they gave me the wrong pain medication. The pain medication they had been giving me (hydrocodone) doesn’t do anything at all for me. I kept telling them that but they kept using it and then promised that they would send me home with oxycodone and didn’t. So at three in the morning I had to go to the ER and be readmitted. It was excruciatingly painful when I was not on pain meds that were effective. Mostly the gas in my upper shoulders was the painful part. I had a hiatal hernia repair and a bypass.

My doctor was not fantastic, I did not necessarily need to be readmitted to the hospital. I really just needed the correct prescription. But he wanted me in there so he could watch me, or for some other reason? He seemed very angry with me.

I will say this. I wish I had known that it could be that painful. I would’ve been able to more completely prepare myself and be more accepting of the pain if I knew it was coming. That’s why I’m mentioning it to you all, not to scare anyone but just so you can get ready in case you are one of the people that it hurts. It clearly doesn’t hurt everyone.

As for me, I’ve had two spinal cord surgeries that were less painful than this one. So everyone has a different experience, but mine was not fantastic. That said, I feel ok now and am home, doing well.

    Good luck, all.

  10. Welcome all!

I agree with @tamra. Feeling all the things. And like @MeNotYou worried about losing my hair is one of those things. I’ve always had great hair, and now I’m messing with that one thing…but still ready for it! Also, as an avid baker, wondering how I’ll do with no sugar, but willing to only bake savory and eat little if it. Goodbye my beloved crème brûlée…

It’s dumb, some of the things I worry about, especially since I’m aiming to avoid cancer with this surgery. Vanity and food addiction!

  11. I feel for you, this sounds really hard. I am also preop but I know I am thinking about food with a sort of grieving perspective, even though I don’t always care about food that much.

It sounds way harder for you and having to do the emotional labor for yourself and for your significant other sounds extra hard. In the end only you know what is best for you, and I’m betting it is likely being healthy. So whatever “health” looks like for you is where you should go, right? And everyone else’s opinion does not matter even the slightest. The doctor’s office included.

    Good luck to you!
