Hello lovelies.....tell me how your first week or first two weeks were after surgery. Please be honest. I think that is what I am worried about the most. All of my paperwork has been sent off for insurance approval

Had mine done on an Army base, and it was 100% free. The only out of pocket I had was a $36 copay for my psych evaluation.

I’m still in preop phase but 0 out of pocket expenses for me since I met my insurance out of pocket cost of 3000 earlier this year. Even if I had to pay the 3000 it would have been worth it in my opinion

$150 administrative fee for me, but everything else was covered 100% through Tricare.

I met my out-of-pocket yearly spending limit of $4200 before ever having my WLS. EKG, Ultra sounds, Cat Scans, sleep study, Stress test, Endoscope, Pulmonary lung testing. The pre-op heart Cath erization procedure put me over the top. Anything medically needed through the end of the year is now covered 100%.
Through testing, I found out I never had COPD, no artery blockages and a hiatal hernia that was causing breathing problems and acid reflux. Fixed. I can breathe again. Exercise, Walk, Shop, Do yardwork, garden. No longer sedentary. So happy and so worth it.
Good luck @FlowerGirl44 with your journey.

How much did you have to spend out of pocket up until the day of your surgery? I didn't expect this to be so costly, but I know it'll be more than worth it.

Had my follow up with surgeon yesterday after having done all testing and nutrition classes that he asked of me. He congratulated me for being so swift and for losing a bit of weight since last visit. He said I’ve been cleared with everyone but I have one more visit with the nutritionist before she can clear me in 2 weeks and then a final follow up with him!!! I’m so happy I couldn’t sleep last night. Thought I would have to wait 6 months that Keystone First requires but they have years of documented proof that my weight has been a problem and a huge factor in my health for over 15 years. Praying insurance approves me after next visit (fingers crossed)

My first two weeks,I had uncontrollable diarrhea . Don't get scared - it's a very unusual happening and seems I was pretty much one of the unlucky ones. Other than that, pain was mild and only in the incisions . It went away fast. The worst part of it was being so tired . That lasted about 3 weeks and I was totally back to normal. Walking exhausted me,but I still did it. I'm 69 years old , and I'm lucky it was very easy. Good luck to you !

it was ok, I think the first week you are tired and just concentrating on healing, week 3 however I was over it and regretting it big time, but I don't anymore.

Hello. I just completed my first week post-op. Right after surgery I woke up in a LOT of pain and very stiff. As soon as I stood up I felt better so the first day I walked as much as I could. A family member set a timer and I'd sleep, timer would go off and I'd walk, and that went on all day. The next day I think I was a little more sore. I kept up the ritual with the timer. Surgery was on Wednesday and by Tuesday I returned to work. Right now it has been 8 days since my surgery and I actually feel great.
I'd like to add that my BCBS wouldn't cover my surgery so we used secondary Surgery Plus and I wasn't able to stay at the hospital so I was an out patient. Please make sure you have someone with you to help you. I literally couldn't raise myself out of bed by myself.
    Best of luck!!!

I would rather have the WLS and all it entails than spend the rest of my life digging my grave with a spoon. No regrets!

I feel the same way. At my heaviest, my health was declining so quickly. So happy to be getting my life back. Yes, the beginning sucks, but it is temporary.

    Hello everyone,
My name is Zee. I’m from the Philadelphia area, 36 yr old wife and mother of 4 (1 going off to college next month). Had my first appointment with my surgeon Dr. Soans on 5/6/23. Did all my lab test, EKG, Pulmonologist appt, 2 out of 3 of the required Nutrition classes, 2 follow up 1 on 1 with nutritionist and found out I have sleep apnea. Have a cpap machine now and have been cleared by the pulmonologist. Have a follow up with surgeon on 7/6/23. Have been following what I am to do strictly so I’m hoping that goes well. I know I have to see a psychologist but don’t know when yet. I have Keystone First health insurance so I made sure to call them first and see if surgery was covered before starting this Journey.

Really looking forward to this surgery so I can be more active in my kids lives.

If you decide to put it off, don't wait too long. Otherwise, you may have to do all the pre-op testing a second time. You've already come this far...
I personally wouldn't go into it unsure. A little bit of fear is natural. But I know if I don't go all in, I won't be successful. But then I'm an all or nothing personality.

yep - went back and forth for 10 years. But I finally admitted to myself that I couldn't do it alone - I cannot tell you how many times I lost weight, just to gain it all back again. The most I could ever lose (and this was just a handful of times) was 50-60 lbs. But most times it was more like 10-20. I had over 200 lbs to lose. How on earth was I going to pull that off i I couldn't even keep 50 of? I finally realized this was the only thing left to try. And I was afraid of a drastically shortened life if I didn't get the damn weight off. So I finally did it. It wasn't easy - but it worked.

is easy (and normal!) to have swirly thoughts. but really, you'll know if you have issues when u know. and when you do, you can deal with it then.
easy to say, yes, i know.
but take it from the multitude from the other side, alot of the worries you are having now are more likely at worst, temporary, and and best, unfounded.
    Good Luck! ❤️

If you can keep your nerve and get to the hospital on the day then you will thank yourself three months down the line. If you bottle it then in 12 months you will be back on the bariatric treadmill wishing that you will have enough courage this time around. We were are scared, its the unknown.
Like @ ms.sss says I too would have this done again in a heartbeat. It has changed my life. Its worth it. The pre op diet is so tough it feels like you have to earn the surgery. I hated that diet so badly, I almost ran to the operating theatre
