    What Made You Smile Today?

I've reached the time of shedding hair. But it's OK. I have plenty of it. Everything I've read says it's inevitable regardless of how many supplements you take. So I'm just rolling with it....

    Reheating food

I can reheat lean ground beef no problems. But steak..... that's a big NO. Chicken too. If it's rubbery at all..nope. No matter how much I chew it, it seems to go down better if the meat is shredded and in some kind of sauce. Texture is a big factor for me to determine if it's going to stay down. At 5 months out, I seem to handle most foods better now. Reheating everything else has been just fine. But I did read on a few Bariatric websites, somewhere while researching surgery pre-op, to avoid reheating food in a microwave. I told my nutritionist what I read, and she also said like people here, that she'd never heard that before. But that info is out there, somewhere. I just don't remember where.

    Toilet issues

I've had a few days of 4-5 BMs a day but on the average 2-3. Thankfully I've never had problems with constipation post-op except during week one. That usually comes with weight stalls. I was told pale stools was caused from the fat loss especially if it floats so.... I'm happy to go often. I figure I'm flushing fat and pounds down the toilet. 😌 Downside, I sometimes worry about being out somewhere and too far away from a bathroom. So I plan carefully. But I know at some point it will slow down. GL

    Scared to eat

I can relate to that mindset. I used to kid people pre-op that all I had to do was look at food and gain weight. And it was kind of true. But now after your WLS and sticking to the doc's plan, you will see the results on the scale. Fears will subside. Mine did. GL going forward.

    Struggling with Post-Surgery Challenges

I like to say that's exactly what I signed up for. But knowing at some point it will return helps to get through it. I used to love my Crystal Light drinks but after WLS it was too sweet and plain water tasted better until about 2 months out. So, tastes do change but usually are only temporary. Metallic taste is usually from your body detoxing. So that's a good thing. At 5 months post-op a lot of things are hit and miss for me still but that's OK. I stick with what I know my new tummy can tolerate and slowly introduce new foods as I go. My restriction has really increased as time goes on and my appetite as well. With nerves healing and increase in exercise to blame. LOL I do experience days of extreme fatigue too. On some days it literally felt like my bones were aching. But I don't push myself and allow myself to rest when needed. Also, It's really important to make sure you keep up on your daily vitamins. Especially now, when eating less. Don't worry. Enjoyment will return soon enough. And hopefully by then you will be that much closer to all your goals. Good luck!!
  7. Eating a hand-picked tomato. Why is that a NS victory? Because of WLS required pre-op testing, I was told that I never had COPD. I was told to quit digging in the dirt years ago. I quit gardening. Both veggies and flowers. It made me sad but I'm so happy to know now, that I can do it again. So, post -op I decided to start small and grow a couple containers of Early Girl tomato plants on my deck. They are so sweet and warm from the sun when I bite into them. So much more satisfying than store bought. Just lovely. Also, I'm usually a side sleeper but recently realized I can comfortably lie on my back without feeling like I'm suffocating. I carried most of my excess weight around my abdomen. (the most dangerous kind of fat) It probably didn't help that I also had a hiatal hernia. It was repaired during my gastric bypass. With each improvement I notice, I am more thankful for deciding on WLS. If I hadn't gotten it, I never would have known about the hernia or the COPD misdiagnosis. And would probably still be sedentarily sitting on my couch gaining weight and wasting my life away.

    Calf Pain

This may sound weird but try drinking some dill pickle juice. I'm told it works almost immediately to stop leg cramps. More than likely you have an electrolyte imbalance. Vitamin B or a Vitamin D deficiency or a lack of minerals (e.g., calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous) can be leg cramp drivers. So hopefully you are keeping up on your daily vitamins and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Good luck!!
  9. Even if you were gaining muscle weight, you would notice a change in the way your clothes fit. When my nutritionist told me to eat carbs pre-op, my Keto mind screamed no. I did it though and lost weight. But I highly limited them. If you are not tracking on an app like Bariastic. you can easily consume way more carbs or calories than what you need. Some people can drink their calories for the day before ever eating any food. I would limit those carbs and be mindful of how much you are eating in a day. I know before surgery, I told everyone I didn't eat that much till I started tracking my food intake and was shocked to find out I was overeating. Also..not sure what surgery you had but my doc told me of a sleeve patient/friend of hers that did everything right and lost only 30 pounds within the first year. She ended up putting her on Ozempic to help. So there are some people who simply don't respond as well to the surgery based on age, meds etc. But before going that route, I would examine the food intake amounts first. Good luck!!!

    Food Before and After Photos

I love my Instant pot for easy peel eggs using the 5-5-5 method. I make a dozen at a time.
  12. So did I. I thought my life was over and destined to a life of slow decay. Thank God I pulled myself up out of that mindset and did something about it. Congrats on all you have overcome. @SleeveToBypass2023 I loved reading about all those NSVs. You should be very proud. And the best of luck to you moving forward and making your dream a reality.
  13. I struggle with eating chicken at almost 5 months out from surgery. I can't imagine eating it at under 3 weeks. And even though I have clearance to eat regular food now, some things I just don't. I try different foods and quickly learn if it's a no go or not. I figure I have the rest of my life to eat it again at a later point. So, I try not to force things too quickly, just because I can. Especially If it makes me feel unwell. In your case, there's a big difference between puree and a drumstick. But everyone's food plan/tolerances are different after WLS when it comes to timing of food consistency phases. So, I get that people test the boundaries. I myself was too much of a chicken sh*t to try it for fear of damaging my new tummy. Which can happen. From what I understand, a leak or damage would cause excruciating pain, fever, sepsis etc. So, you would know it. But I would be curious if anyone here has had a leak or blew out their staples and lived to tell about it??? Would be quite the cautionary tale. 🤔
  14. Based on a weight loss of 32 pounds in 9 weeks, that is an average weekly loss of 3.5 pounds. Excellent. I average a 2-pound loss a week and completely happy with it. The consistent downward trend I see on the scale is exciting to watch. Especially after years of failed dieting. If you must weigh daily, add up each day's weight for a week, then divide by how many days you stepped on the scale. Then compare week by week. I did this method years ago since this helps factor in water weight fluctuations. which can cause up to 5 pounds of variation daily, depending on sodium intake and menstrual cycles. I weigh once a week now and let my RENPHO smart scale do the math for me. It also takes bodyfat percentage which to me is a more important measurement as compared to the daily ups and downs of those weight scale numbers. Also, a stall here or there is to be expected while our bodies readjust but I'll take it. GL and congrats on your recent WLS @DustyRecording

I love my early walks too!!! Before WLS I wasn't even a morning person
  19. If you count carbs you still have to be mindful of how many calories you consume. And if you count calories you have to be mindful of how many of those are from carbs. Fruits and veggies I don't worry so much about. I used the Baritastic app during my 3-month pre-op diet basically to show my nutritionist what I was eating and to make sure I was staying within my limits to lose the weight needed for surgery. Afterwards I don't use it. Logging and thinking about food 24/7 drives me nuts. But I do practice mindful eating and if using it helps keep you on track, then do it. I did like the recipe feature. Just add all ingredients and then your serving size. It does all the math for you. I pretty much know what foods to eat and which to avoid and the WLS restricts my amounts anyway. Portion control, I think is most important. By now I've gotten pretty good at eyeballing what I put on my plate. Some days I can finish it and others I push it away. As long as my weight continues to go down, I know I am on the right track. I'm hoping by the time the honeymoon phase is over and normal hunger returns, I will have formed new habits to maintain my losses and continue losing weight to goal.

    Pain after surgery?

First week out from surgery, it's normal to have gas pain/incision pain. Walking is the best medicine to expel the air that was pumped into you while performing the surgery. If it's a different kind of gas from something you ate or drank then Gas X would probably help if you are allowed to take it 3 days post op. I didn't suffer from any of the horrid gas pains but did have a lot of the gurgling as you described. I made myself get up and walk every hour for 5 minutes. I was more worried about getting blood clots. Congrats on your recent surgery @Nissi88 and week 2 should be much better for you. Whenever I have a lot of burping, it's usually accompanied by the foamies and/or nausea. I read the foamies are the stomachs way of protecting itself from an irritant by producing the slime that coats the stomach. Early on that healing stomach can be easily irritated so I was careful not to force food or drink trying to meet daily goals. I just made sure I didn't allow myself to become dehydrated.

    What Made You Smile Today?

I was looking for recipes to use for my Vitamix and ran across the first ever infomercial. "If you do not have a Vitamix you are a miserable failure, you will lose your wealth, you will lose your job, you will lose your income and you will lose your life." What a sales pitch. I don't think he knows he's a comedian. He's dead serious. "Oh mother mother mother. What happened to Daddy's teeth? Momma poured them down the sewer. " xD
  22. I did. Liquid through soft food phases were easier for me. When I started regular solid food at 5 weeks, I felt heavy restriction. I was relieved because I wanted that. Didn't think the surgery worked during those early times. Soft food passes through easier and nerves were cut during your WLS. Until they regenerate, you will have an easier time eating certain foods. Sounds to me like that has happened. Regeneration.
  23. I have this Renpho scale and it's similar in what it measures compared to the one advertised in the video. Right now, it's marked down to $30. Food Before and After Photos

It was for me today. It's not something I plan to eat regularly after WLS. I read the label. 30g carbs/12g of it is sugar. Wasn't a good choice but so are a lot of other things posted to this thread. LOL My nutritionist encouraged me to eat carbs pre-op and it was really tough for me to shift from my Keto mentality to 45g of carbs daily. But I lost 22 pounds before WLS in those 3 months. In a few weeks I'm supposed to up my carbs to 60g. I usually sweeten food with Stevia so today was a one off.
