    Hello,

I am at the very end of my process, just waiting for my processing team to look over my file and make sure it fits everything insurance is requiring. I just wondering how long it took all of you to go through your "processing" phase. Not how long it took insurance to approve, just how long it took your processing team to submit your prior authorization to insurance after everything was completed? I'm almost at two weeks and no one can tell me anything, but when I contact the insurance company they don't have it. Is this timing normal?

    Thank you!

Call the hospital and call your insurance. After I did not hear from my hospital for one month, I called the insurance and found out that the surgical team did not send them anything (even though they said they did). After that, it went perfect. Sometimes it pays off to be persistent especially when it comes to your health.

Please do not worry about your weight so much. My surgeon asked me to keep a low carb high Protein diet. Your weight will fluctuate and they are aware of it. You will be at least two weeks prior to the surgery on a liquid diet and you will loose weight drastically at that time. Regardless of the weight, your underlying health conditions weigh heavy in that decision. Moreover, they will probably use the first weight when you just came in. I recall my doctor saying that “ you should not gain weight”.

All my first initial appts have been via zoom they record my weight at 222 and today I went to my dietician appt. She weighed me and usually I’m like 221-220. Today I was 219.8. Which lowered my bmi to 39.9 but I know
Tomorrow I’m going to wake up 220-221 again. What can I do ? I don’t want to unqualify because of it. I have another appt tomorrow with my primary for my EKG. Will they consider that weight too ? My weight today kept fluctuating between 220-219 she just chose the lowest weight. What do you guys think ?

  4. I talked to my mayo Clinic surgeon. I will have a two weeks liquid diet prior to the surgery, it is a simple diet combination each day of 4 premade Protein Shakes (they have a list of 4 but doing some research I found that the Premier Protein from costco are the most affordable ones), 16 ounces of regular orange juice and 32 ounces of Water mixed with electrolyte mixes (Nuun or IV Hydration). After finishing those each day I can have broth or bouillon or non carbonated beverages. He also recommended a low carb diet until then. The surgeon also mentioned that I should be near the hospital after the release for some days since it seems that the majority of complication arise in the first two weeks and I live several hours away. These days I find myself craving things that I never crave. I read somewhere that they are called “food funerals”. And here I go toward another food funeral. Tonight is cantaloupe.😀

  5. I know that I am late to this topic, but as a person that was newly diagnosed with AFib and has the surgery scheduled for 6/5/23, I think I understand the subject well. There is solid research coming from Australia that shows that AFib reverses or at least improves after drastic weight loss. This is what my mayo Clinic cardiologist told me. I hesitated for years to get a gastric bypass but after learning this aspect, I scheduled my gastric bypass surgery. I talked to my gastric surgeon, he knows I have Afib and that I take medication for it and there are no issues whatsoever. I am sure he is consulting with my cardiologist. I wish you the best, this gastric bypass surgery might save us from Afib at least for some years. Let’s hope that the Aussies are 100% correct! 😀
