  1. I collect vintage tablecloths, doilies, Blue Willow china, old kitchen hand tools(sifters, strainers, etc) and i use or display all of them. I like to use the items if i can, especially things that belonged to my mother. Most of the pots i use are 40 yrs or more old. my mother's dutch oven i use at least twice a week is 56 yrs old. It is the most even heating pot i have ever seen. I also collect old food tins, from crackers, lard, Syrup, etc. for display.

  2. thanks for the trip down memory lane! i remember being able to walk around the block at night in our pajamas(sister and i) to cool off before bed. no worries!

laying on cool concrete porch to play barbie dolls with my homemade furniture for her. spools of thread for table with scrap fabric on it for tablecloth, homemade doll clothes, homemade paper dolls and clothes for them, betsy mccall paper doll/clothes once a month when the mccalls magazine came to the house, the "jewel T" man, fuller brush man, milkman, walking to the neighborhood "little" store for a whole bag of candy

for 10 cents, pourin' peanuts in a bottle of coke, drinking mountain dew from green glass bottle, hillbilly loaf bread, running around the whole neighborhood all day--only coming home when called(hollered at from porch),polishing my patent leather shoes with vaseline for church, washing out my one pair of gloves each week for church, home perms forced on you by your mother, having no family car--we walked everywhere or rode bus that went from marietta, ga to atlanta and all point in between for 30 cents if we needed to go into a bigger city for school clothes or something special. i used to make mud pies and make my little brother eat them, also played army with rocks when his plastic army men finally wore out. "cooking" outside with pine cones, leaves, flowers, etc. pretending, playing housewife. meeting my daddy at the top of our street when he was walking from bus stop further away, every day after work. he always had a small candy treat or a promise of getting us ice cream later after supper. these are just a few of my precious memories.......:D

  3. hi! i told my 9 and 12 yr old boys about 2 wks before i went to mexico. i went with a friend who is a nurse--they just knew i was having stomach surgery because of some problems and would have to eat a little differently.

they still do not know it was to lose weight. they would have told the whole school and neighborhood and it was private info to me. i talked to them every day i was gone, they just worried til i was out of surgery. then when i was picked up at airport, they wanted to see pictures of mexico and wondered if they could ever go there. i had told them that the best dr for me was in monterrey when asked why dr was not around here. they both wanted to check it out on the map before i left for mx and wanted details about plane ride. my 9 yr old is the worrier and he just wanted to be sure if what would happen if i died-who would have them, would daddy be okay w/o me, and a lot of odd questions that only a boy his age could come up with !! when he was satisfied, he was calm and believed that i would be okay and he would be okay no matter what.:biggrin1:

  4. i have only been here since march,so i do not really know anyone "personally". but if these allegations are true, it is very disturbing to me. i have read, but not posted on some of the very nasty, argumentative threads that have been around from time to time. when i noticed delarla was away, i also noticed that there were still nasty threads going on, so it could not have been ALL delarla, as some folks tried to say. many of the nasty, mean members are still here, posting all the time. i do wonder why delarla, lisa, would post an apology to all and then supposedly tell a lie about penni

perhaps there is some truth to the allegations she made.

i am sure that i am considered just another member who is a fan of one or the other, but i am not a particular fan of anyone....i read most posts by ALL members and get much info and enjoyment from what i read, except from the nasty, mean posts..that are locked now. perhaps, we need alex to intervene on the members behalf to settle this matter concerning penni. i hope allegations are not true, but i am also saddened that there is a chance that they are....i want to say, i am glad that lisa has admitted her part in any scams, etc.--and i wish her the best. and i hope penni can have this matter resolved for the best also.:straight

  5. I just make kool-aid with splenda for myself and the kids. That way, you have many choices of flavors. I buy the splenda in bags, Walmart even has a brand of their own called Altern, that's what i buy now. Measures just like sugar. I make 2qts or use 2 packs of kool-aid and make a gallon at a time.:biggrin1: You can always pour it into saved Water bottles to take on the go--that is what we do. Very cheap....

  6. Hi ya'll---i am from GA, lived there all my life til DH was transferred here to SC 2 1/2 yrs ago. we WILL return one day....we call s.c "hell"---they have the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation, the folks we have encountered have not been too friendly, the only good thing is we are in the best school district. we live near, but not in greenville. We do still consider ourselves georgians and visit when we can. I would love to get together with some of ya'll someday...JOYCE, you are doing such a great job on your own--keep it up---you are doing WONDERFUL on your weight loss. :biggrin1:

  7. Hello ya'll---hope everyone is doing okay in this heat wave!!

i think i have been living in wet clothes for the last few weeks until midnight every night when it seems to cool off. :biggrin1:

i am scheduled for my first fill on august 11th, looking forward to it, but with a little apprehension just the same.

JOYCE--i started at a BMI of 65, so i understand what you mean--i think everyone on this thread would like to see a healthier BMI--slowly, but surely this will happen for us all... :clap2:

  8. Go to the training and then decide if it is for you. I was in GS and enjoyed my time there, my mom was not able to attend. coming from a large (6 kids) family it was okay ---kinda my time away from them. i used to walk 1/2 way across our little town to attend meetings at the GS "hut" we called it. i think you will probably enjoy the fellowship with the girls and they will enjoy you. I do not recall any religious anything in GS. so.....I think no one's religion should be a focus at scouts, christian, pagan, etc.

Just have fun and enjoy ya'll's time together!!!!:)

  9. I understand what you are going through. This sounds like my husband exactly. My husband has never gone to anger mngmnt classes. A friend of ours, a nurse, has suggested it to him for the last 20 yrs practically. I have heard the same story about meds as you are describing, DH is not on paxil, but on another anti-depressant. Different doses, meds, etc. all seem to help for a while. The nurse friend, says the classes will do some behavior modification, teach some relaxation methods, etc. Usually it falls to me to keep things on an even keel, but in recent years as his helath has declined, i have warned him that he should try MUCH harder, as it is very taxing on me to handle his quick anger. Sometimes i feel like a referee! I tell him that he better pray that i do not die anytime soon, he would be lost--having to deal with life, kids, work, etc. on his own!!!

It has also helped for me to go into dr's ofc exam room with him and give the dr. more insight and truth than DH does. DH has no problem with me doing that. I also encourage him to handle small issues "on his own"

somewhat to show him he CAN control himself better, with practice. But i still seem to be his buffer from the world. It sounds like you are doing all the right things, I believe classes would help him, if he were willing to go.

My DH says yes, but never seems to do it. Keep hangin' in there Paula....

    Jane:)

  10. the halter dress with a wrap is a VERY good idea. i am from georgia and it is still quite HOT in september, don't forget the humidity, too. this way, you could wear a wrap that is very loosely woven and just cover up as little or as much as you want to!!

  11. welcome to lapband talk. this is a great site for info before and after being banded. if you ever get tired of talking about the band, try the lap band lounge threads. funny stories, gardening, knitting, fun stuff!! i read posts at least twice a day, but only post a few times a week usually. most of the people here are very nice, remember, that what is posted here is someone's opinion or their experience, take it with a grain of salt. you will

be glad you joined---it has been the most informative lap band site i have found, in my opinion. WELCOME!!!!:biggrin1:

  12. river, their office said $2,000 for a year of care, up to 4 fills, all with fluoroscopy. if i had only 2 1/2 fills a year with dr rumbaut--my airline cost

would be that much and a lot more hassle than a 3 hr drive to dalton would be. i love dr r. and fills are free, but it would be more costly and time consuming for the actual trip than i would want. dr r. recommended dr Ponce anyway.:biggrin1:
