  1. Before surgery I lost 50 pounds. I mostly tried to do a low carb diet and made sure I always had healthy Snacks on hand. I also tried to walk on the treadmill at least a couple times a week. I also would allow for a cheat day here and there to get in favorite meals and restaurants one more good time before surgery. I was able to stick with the diet pre op when I knew I would eventually reward myself.

Makes sense, and others have suggested the same. I do get it. When I'm required 3,000 IU (75 mcg) of D3 and a fusion chewable has 18.8 mcg, I'll take 4 chewables daily. It gets tougher with Biotin (required 3000 mcg and fusion has 150 mcg), and B complex with Thiamine, for example. i'll ask my nutritionist in an upcoming appt. how they suggest I get enough if I'm unable to absorb large amounts. It's definitely a learning curb for me. Thanks!

I buy all my Vitamins from Bariatric Advantage. They have a chewable and capsules.

Hi everyone. I'm still looking for new Vitamins, especially chewable (no soft gel). Is it me, or are these bariatric Vitamin brands super weak? fusion, ProCare, etc. have low amounts of Vitamin B's, etc. I've always invested in high quality Vitamins (Brain MD, others). The vitamins recommended by Cleveland Clinic even recommend a good amount of vitamin nutrients, but I don't find them in these bariatric brands. I realize I'd need to take numerous amounts of vitamins/day, but I'd have to take more than 10 Multivitamins in these brands. Thoughts?

With the regular vitamins you were able to absorb everything in one dose. After surgery you don't absorb as much at one time. For example I was told anything over 500 mg of Calcium wouldn't be absorbed at a time. So with bariatric vitamins they need to break up the doses over the course of the day instead of taking it all at once. That's why they might seem like "weaker" vitamins.

You are both very recent surgeries, and your body is still healing and adjusting to things like, for instance, the hormonal changes and the changes in your Fluid consumption, etc. (and @kla7403 64 pounds especially on a 5'2" person is a LOT! Give yourself the credit you deserve!)

Only 15 pounds since my surgery date. The other 49 I lost in my pre op phase which started the beginning of the year. My dr requires you to loose weight. My goal was 21 but I really pushed myself to reach 49.

  5. I went into this doing a ton of research. I knew to expect the week 2 or 3 stall. But man does it suck when your experiencing it. I haven't got the scale to move in about six days and it just feels so discouraging. I'm only 16 days out from surgery and I know there's so many new things my body is trying to adjust to. I just feel so bummed right now. All the hormonal changes aren't helping with that either. Ugh I cant wait to get past this little plateau.

  6. Man I underestimated how uncomfortable the gas pain would be! I had my last pain med at the hospital around 8am. My dr doesn’t send you home with anything and tells you to use Tylenol. I’m so uncomfortable that I’m just camped out in my living room in the recliner. What day did the gas pains go away for you?

You are doing much better than I am. Today I was taken to radiography so they can test if there are any leaks. That experience was very painful due to the positioning but there are no leaks so I can start eating. I drank two sips of Water and had immediate cramping. That stopped after 5 minutes. I requested a meeting with the nutritionist because their list is very confusing. They say sugar fee, fat free yogurt, all yogurt has some amount of sugar in it naturally so I need explanations. The pain medication helps tremendously, I agree. They have me on an opioid and a muscle relaxant. Today they added another pain medication. I do not know when they will send me home yet, but I am scared because all meds they are giving me are given through my arm port and I need to know that I will be able to control this pain at home. This is just 24 hours after the roux en y surgery, I thought it will be easier….Sigh…

So I found that cold Water from the pitcher with is hurt. I started asking for no ice and let the water come to room temp in my 1 ounce cups and it was like night and day for me

  8. I had my surgery yesterday. Woke up in my room to kinda bad gas pains I’m my lower stomach. I was given pain medicine and it helped a lot . Also burping as much as I could really made a difference. Feeling much better this morning just tender and little tinges of pain here and there

  9. I started my journey in December and I am less then 3 weeks until my surgery date. My program requires you to lose a certain percentage of body weight before surgery. My surgery goal was 21 pounds and so far I’ve been able to lose 43. Now I’m so close to surgery day and I have this overwhelming desire to eat all my favorite crappy foods one last time. Yes I know eventually down the road you can indulge from time to time. I realize that it’s not like I will never get to eat pizza ever again. I also really want to lose another 7 pounds to hit 50 before surgery. 50 pounds before surgery was a personal goal I had set for myself. I need a way to shut off the part of my brain that wants to eat all the junk in the next few weeks.

  10. This process is very much "hurry up, then wait"! I should have been able to have all my requirements done in three months but I will be six months in when I get my surgery in June. Also if you dont like the DR I would look to find someone else. I have been extremely impressed with my surgeon and his staff this far.
