  1. Congratulations Trina!! You are doing great. I have my appointment for my first fill tomorrow. More new experiences...

I think we have all had a million emotions during the month of December and early January. You are right - it will all be worth it.

THanks!!! I hope your fill goes great!

  2. I went to my first fill today. I brought what I've eaten for the past seven days and talked to the nutritionist about it. She said I was doing very welll. She didn't even flinch at the King Crab Legs and Vodka I had on New Years!!! I was honest, I put on there that I'd eaten at Taco Bell two days and McDonald's another day, but those days I pretty much didn't eat anything else, and then most days I ate healthy food, so she said I was doing great.

Apparently I'm down another 5 pounds since the last doctor's appointment!!! That made me feel so much better. THe scale read 300.003!!! That's just one pound until I'm under 300! It actually flashed 299.9, but then went back up o 300. My home scale says 303.

The surgeon said I was doing great, especially over the holidays to lose 5 pounds, so that perked my spirits up.

I was told to get on the chair and they reclined it all the way, but betadine on my stomach and numbed it with little needle pricks. Then he took a long needle and began to poke me to find the port. He couldn't find it. He could find the big round thing, but apparently there's a soft spot in the middle that the syringe goes through and he could not find that. He stuck me like 10 times and he hurt! (I'm a baby with pain by the way). Then he kept trying to find it. I was actually going to ask to take a break because I can't stand little sticking pain....He numbed the area again and poked me again, and then I said, "Ouch!" and he numbed it agaain. He finally found it well below where they (and I ) thought it was. He apologized for hurting me several times and said that next time they'll know right where it is. In hindsight, it wasn't really that bad.

I have a 10cc band and he put in 4.5 cc, which is a little more than usual, but I live close by, so I could get an unfill if I needed to. I drank a whole glass of Water and it went down fine. I have another follow up appt. scheduled on Feb. 3rd. I'm supposed to drink liquids, then progress to mushies, then on to real food in the next two days.

I feel good and I'm hopeful that my weight loss will really jump start now!!

Update: It's the day after my fill and I feel restriction. I weighed myself today after the gym and I weighed 299 on my home scale! WHOO hoo on being under 300!

  3. Hi guys! Hope all the holiday hotties are doing great! I had my first fill yesterday and it hurt! But it is soo worth it. I'm at 299 pounds today!!! Whoo hooo for being under 300. That's 31 pounds since before pre-op diet. i now have 4.5 cc in a 10cc band. You can check out my blog if you want details. Hope everyone is doing great!

By the way, I have had weight loss stalls, second guessing, and being sad and feeling like it might not work over the past month, so to everyone who is struggling, it will get better. We have only just begun!

  5. OK, anyone out there banded last week getting hungry??? I am!! Im even hungry right after I eat:mad2:...or should I say drink. I just want something to chew on:drool:. What "food stage" is everyone at. My doc said liquids a week or two. Well, another week of this and....HELP:scared2::tt1:!!! Am I the only one experiencing this?????

Hi, I'm on day 10 and my surgeon told me it will be normal to get hungry, because there is no Fluid in your band yet. As of yesterday, I was on limited liquids (full liquids, but limited). As of now, I'm on pureed food for four days, then soft food for four days, and after that real food as tolerated. I know I my stomach was growling and I really felt hungry when someone else was eating next to me. I tried to ignore it and drink a Protein Shake. It is normal to be hungry. You don't have any restriction yet. The only restriction we feel is from the stomach swelling and maybe our stomach shrinking or being used to not eating from the pre-op diet. My doc said that you really start not being hungry and losing weight after the first fill. Hang in there!

Congrats everyone who has had surgery and I'm glad everyone is doing well!!! Good luck to those who are going this week! You'll do great!!!:tt1:

  6. Mike, Joanne--Great to hear things are going well! My thought are with those of you in pain and I hope that it gets better very soon. I'm glad to hear that everyone banded this week is doing well except for the pain and nausea reported. Has anyone heard from FL Pete? I hope he is doing well and have him in my prayers along with all of you for a successful recovery.

  7. just say you just had surgery to fix a hernia or something, so you can only eat Soup for a couple of weeks. or you could always order something with mashed potatoes, cut your meat, pretend to eat it and hide it under the mashed potatoes, and then you could actuallt eat a little mashed potatoe at this point, just be careful, little amounts!

    good luck!

That is hilarious but it sounds like it might work!!! Thanks everyone for the advice. I appreciate it!!

  8. Okay so I'm six days post-op and feeling great. No issues related to the surgery. I did two days Clear Liquids and am on limited full liquids--ff/sf pudding, strained Soup, nonfat milk and all the stuff from the clear phase until my doctor's appointment on Tuesday when I'll be 9 days post op. Well, I randomly met a guy two days before my surgery and he keeps calling and asking me to do dinner with him. I've been putting him off, but finally agreed to see him on Wednesday evening. I suggested a movie and he said, sure and we'll get something to eat first. What excuse can I use about why I can't eat anything? I don't want to tell him about the surgery until I know him better, but I'm going to have to tell him something, because he's dead set on us sharing a meal together. I'm have nightmares about him picking up pizza and me having to chew and spit it out in my napkin!!!! Any suggestions are much appreciated!!!!

  9. This is really my only complaint so far and I'm six days post -op. I asked about my meds and was told they would prescribe them in liquids. After surgery, was sent home with instructions to crush all of them. The Wellbutrin tasted so bad, I almost gagged. I called the doctor's office to ask if they could call in a liquid version. They said yes, but didn't call me back. I called the pharmacy, who stated that they don't have a liquid form of wellbutrin. I kept crushing them. Then my mom pointed out that is says "don't crush" on the bottle. I called the doctor's office back and they said, oh don't crush the Wellbutrin if it's SR (after three days of crushing). They told me I could try and take it but it might get stuck. I've been taking them ever since with no problems.... I was scared too, but it went down fine.

  10. I actually feel great today. I walked a ton and went shopping with my mom. I got tired but I think that's because I've really ingested very few calories and almost no Protein on this clear liquid diet. I'm up to full liquids as of this evening and ate oatmeal with no issues. Walking definitely helps tremendously. I ate my chewable Multivitamins, am weaning myself off the pain meds, and feel actually pretty normal. I can't feel the port and I dont feel weird when eating/drinking. I also have no hunger, though I'm told that doesn't last. I'm down 15 pounds from when I started the pre-op diet. I had a pretty busy day shopping and talking on the phone with friends and family and am A okay.

    Thanks for all the support!

Good luck to FL Pete, JoanneMarrie, Stewey, and everyone else being banded this week! You'll do great!:cursing:

  13. I had surgery yesterday and it went well. I got there at about 7:30am, checked in, went to room where I had to give a urine sample, which is hard to do when you're not allowed to drink anything and I already went first thing in the morning. Was asked to get into this gown and socks. Then the nurse put on these really nice thigh high things so I wouldn't get blood clots. Okay, so they weren't pretty, but they did keep me warmer. It was cold yesterday in FL and the hospital was very cold. Then the nurse was mad because apparenty I hadn't filled out some form when i came for pre-op and they were missing my blood work and chest x-ray.

I guess they got it all sorted out and then my mom came back. Suddenly, Nurse Ratchet turned into the nicest person around and she and my mom chatted about everything under the sun. I waited in that room with a TV for awhile, and then another nurse came and wheeled me through the hospital and on the elevators to another waiting area. My surgeon came by, as did the anesthesiologist, who was about 21 years old, but very good looking. They were running late, but finally wheeled me back into the OR. I was totally lucid at this point and they took me into the OR which had a bed with pads on the feets and arms and several people standing around. I scooted over to that bed and they started tying my arms down. I asked where were my happy drugs and informed them that I was usually out by this point, as i was getting pretty scared looking around. The cute anesthesiologist said that the nurse had gotten past him but he was here now and he shot me with something in my IV.

I woke up in recovery and It was painful!!! There was a male nurse there and I told him I can't breathe and it hurts. He kept giving me IV pain killers (I think he said torredal) until I felt better. I had the worst cotton mouth ever and felt kind of nauseous. I asked for ice and he said I wasn't ready for it due to the nausea. I asked him if I could have some ice if I promised not to swallow it. That made him laugh and laugh and laugh. He finally got some ice and it made my mouth feel better, but I pretty much had cotton mouth the whole rest of the day. I kind of chilled for while, all hazy on pain meds in recovery for awhile. The male nurse said that he thought he knew me from somewhere. I think he goes to the same gym I go to. He said he remembered my personality, because I guess I was being funny because he kept laughing. Then he wheeled me downstairs and my mom came and another nurse was taking care of me. They gave me some pretty awful tasting liquid pain meds (liquid loratab) and let me drink some Water. I had no issues with drinking. Then my mom noticed that I had a catheter. I guess they had put that in while I was out. The nurse took it out, which hurt, but not that badly. I then began to have some horrid gas pains that made me double over and cry. I begged the nurse to let me walk, which she finally did after telling me that I could stay in the hospital that night or go home. I wanted to go home. I guess most of the time they make you stay one night, but since I'm "young and healthy" (their words) I can go home. So, she undid my IV and my blood pressure monitor and let me walk around, which made me feel 100X better. My mom went and got the car and I got dressed by myself. My leaving blood pressure was 126/80 which is great. I had some hypertension in the first recovery room, but they think it was due to the pain. They gave me a script for liquid loratab and told me to crush my other meds.

I went home and followed the rule of drinking something or eating sugar free popsicles or Jello every hour. Walked down the driveway and around the house alot. Took the pain meds and felt okay and went to sleep. Woke up at 4am and walked around a bit, let the dog out, and took some more pain meds. Woke up at 9am, walked around, took some pain meds, and had some Jello. I crushed up my Wellbutrin last night and tonight and it was horrible!!! I called the doctor's office today and asked them to call in a liquid version of my wellbutrin, and they said they would. I'm on a clear liquid diet for today and half of tomorow and then on full liquids until my doctor's appointment on Dec. 9th. They said until that appt not to experiment with food, but only eat what's on the list which consists of cream of wheat, oatmeal (both thinned with no clumps) strained Soup, broth, jello, sugar free popsicles, Water, juice and non caloric drinks. I can have coffee but not really until tomorrow afternoon, because I can't have skim milk until tomorrow and I can't drink it black. The appointment is usually to get the staples out, but since he did glue with me, it's just to check in. I have my first fill in about a month and they will give me the rest of my post-op diet at my dec. 9th appointment. So far, so good. I'm in a little pain, but no nausea and the pain is manageable.

  14. THanks for all your support!

Had surgery yesterday and it went well. Some pain, but controlled by the pain meds. They gave me a catheter while I was out, which was a surprise, but other than that, it was what I expected. Nurses were very nice. Surgeon said I had the smallest liver he'd ever seen. (Pats myself on the back for sticking with the pre-op diet). They usually keep people overnight, but let me go home. I've been walking and following the clear liquid diet and feeling pretty good today, though I am taking the liquid loratab. I've had no issues swallowing anything. liquids go down fine, but I'm on liquids until my doctor's appointment on December 9th. Weight is up about a pound. I'm not sure it that's due to the gas or what. So far, so good.
