  1. Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well! I just had a TT and breast reduction covered by insurance and am just over a month out. I'm now 133 pounds down total from when I started this journey. I am so much happier. I will say the biggest things that helped were regular fills and follow up appointments, and going to the gym at least 3 days per week, sometimes every day. This has really changed my life!!!

  2. I have my first PS consult next Thursday and I was wondering if someone who has gone through this before can give me some pointers.

I know my insurance doesn't pay for plastic surgery but was told if medically needed they would. Now how do I make this happen? Give me some pointers. I have some pictures of sores and I have a history of having the sores is this enough?

If someone has had luck with getting ins. companies to pay let me know how you have.

    Thanks

    Jo:confused:

My insurance paid 100% for a breast reduction and TT after I had lost 120 pounds with the lap band. I went to the consult and the plastic surgeon took pictures and submitted it. It really depends on your insurance company and how well your plastic surgeon's office writes it up. If you don't have luck with one plastic surgeon, you should try one who will aggressively try to get your insurance to pay for it. The more documentation you have, the better, but I didn't have to provide anything. The plastic surgeon's office handled everything. Good luck!

  3. Hello everyone!

This is my first post. I am still pre-approval, but had a plastic surgery constult yesterday and dont know what to think? The surgeon suggested I have a breast reduction and breast lift BEFORE the LAP-BAND®. That just didnt sound very sensible to me. I am thinking I am going to lose alot of breast volume post LAP-BAND® and weight loss. So I dont know what size I am going to end up.

What has been your post weight loss breast experiences?

Your body will change drastically! I would definitely wait. I am almost to goal and just had a TT and breast reduction paid 100% by my insurance and my lap band surgeon still thought I was doing it too early. If you lose more weight, your breasts will sag. Get a 2nd opinion.

  4. I work out hard at least 3x a week and have loose skin on my belly, chest, upper arms and upper thighs that won't go away. My insurance just approved me for a breast reduction and abdominoplasty and I'm scheduled for surgery on Oct. 5th. They are paying 100% and I a very excited. My next worse area is my arms and I am willing to pay the $4000 to get them fixed, but my surgeon says that I will have to wait, as they can only do so much surgery at one time. I know I will have scars and that it will hurt, but I have to wear Shapewear every day and I live in FL so it is HOT! Also, I look terrible in a swimsuit or without clothes on. I'm super excited about the prospect of a flat stomach and firm boobs!

  5. Hey guys!!!

I was banded on December 1st. I started out at 330 and now I weigh 210 pounds. I have absolutely nothing to wear, but I'm counting that as a NSV! I feel so much lighter, don't have foot pain or joint pain, and have so much energy! People almost every day make comments about how I'm shrinking as I see lots of different people through work. I gained a boyfriend along the way who is great. It's not perfect and I've definitely had my ups and downs, but this lapband thing is the only thing I've tried over the years and years of dieting that is working for me. I look at food very differently now. I haven't eaten bread in months. I haven't been at this weight since high school and I'm 30 years old. I'm really excited. I still have 35 pounds to lose to get to goal, but I am still losing consistently, even though it has slown down from the initial momentum. I have met alot of great people on the lap band and WLS sites and have sort of figured this thing out through trial and error--what I can eat, what I can't, what I feel like when I'm too tight...This year has been so full of changes! A year ago, I couldn't even picture myself at this weight. It seemed impossible. I still have a nagging voice that reminds me that I could gain it all back in a minute, but I don't think that I will. I've made permanent behavior changes and nutrition changes that I'm hoping will last a lifetime. This is the best thing that has ever happened for me! I'm so proud of myself and for all of you!!!!

  6. Trina, Congrats!!!:tt1::lol:Good Work!!

    !'m 7 # away from that milestone.

That's awesome! I hope that everyone that is struggling has a quick resolution. My heart goes out to you. I feel very lucky that things have gone so smoothly for me so far. I also know after 9 months that your body determines your rate of weight loss. I'm tall and had alot of weight to lose, so the numbers are going to be bigger than someone of average height or that started at a lower weight. I lost a lot of weight fairly quickly and now it has started coming off more slowly. Sometimes I get discouraged when I'm doing everything right and the scale doesn't move, but if I stick with it, I'll see it go down again in little bursts. Congratulations and good luck to all the Holiday Hotties!!!

  7. Hey Holiday Hotties! Just wanted to stop by and say that I'm doing great! This lap band is a life saver. I read all your posts as I subscribe to these and I'm glad to see how great everyone is doing. If you would like to hear details, you can check out my blog on here, but basically I'm 2 pounds away from being 100 pounds down from my weight at my initial consult. It's really exciting and the scale is consistently going down. I wish you all the best!

  8. Just wanted to give a quick update to my fellow holiday hotties. I'm loving the band. I'm down 60 pounds since surgery on December 1st. I have a new boyfriend and things are going great on that front. I feel great restriction for a week or two after my fills (I've had 3 for a total of 6.8ccs), but I'm thinking I may have a leak in the band. The surgeon said he thought he put more in there, so he checked it, and said it wasn't a fast leak if there was a leak, but I was so tight after the last fill I could barely get food down and now I feel very little restriction a couple of weeks later. If it turns out to be a leak, he said that he can fix it while I'm under local anesthesia and that it is relatively simple. I'm still working out at least 5 days per week and eating healthy almost all of the time. I've had no bad effects and I've gotten used to eating to live instead of living to eat. All in all, things are going great! I hope everyone else is doing well and I'm sending my best thoughts and wishes to my fellow december bandsters!!!

  9. I have noticed my restriction seems to go away about a week after a fill (had 2 so far). I've been reading some other threads that tell me it takes more than 2 or 3 - some have not had "good" restriction until about the 4th or 5th fill. My surgeon says she can't put in too much, or the sudden difference will be much to tight and I won't be able to get anything down, so they have to take it in steps. My first fill was 3cc, second was 2cc. I go in next Monday for my 3rd fill. I don't feel much restriction now, and weight loss has stalled again. I logically know all this - but I still feel discouraged tonight. Tomorrow will be better...

Everybody - have a good week, eat healthy and exercise.

My situation is similar to yours--I've had two fills for a total of 5ccs and I do great for a week or so and then I can pretty much eat anything again. My next fill isn't until March 3rd, which I guess is a little over a week away. At least we aren't too tight! I'm afraid of being too tight and throwing up. But I just ate NY strip for dinner tonight with no issues. It must be time for a fill! Good luck with fill #3!

  11. Hi my name is Stephanie and I live in Gainesville,Fl. Just banded 2-3-09(only 6 days post op). Have you been banded yet. Would love to chat with you.

Hey Stephanie. Congratulations!!! I was banded on 12/1/08 and am doing great. We try to meet up at least once every two weeks for lunch or something.

  12. Great thread idea!

    1. I can shave my legs without getting tired and I can wash my feet without leaning against the shower wall.

    2. I did 30 minutes of high intensity on the elliptical machine tonight and didn't feel tired, instead I had more energy.

    3. My foot pain is gone! (plantar fascitis), So is my back pain!

    4. BP is down.

    5. Everyone at work keeps telling me how great I look.

    6. I wore my hair in a ponytail and didn't worry that it made my face look too fat or my double chin stand out without hair to cover it.

    7. I wore jeans today to work for casual Friday just like everyone else instead of having to wear regular clothes because jeans looked so bad on me or wouldnt fit me.

    8. Eating gives me energy instead of making me feel like I need to take a nap.

    9. My surgeon gave me a hug at my fill last week and told me how proud of me he was and how great I'm doing.

    10. I save hundreds of dollars on food because I don't eat that much anymore and have saved a ton because I don't buy soda anymore (it was usually about $4 per 12 pack of cans and I would drink them in a couple of days!):cursing::thumbup:

  13. Okay, I'm kind of stalled for the past two weeks in my weight loss, losing and gaining the same 2-3 pounds. I'm giving myself some slack since I had a really bad cold/flu bug and I'm still trying to shake it, so I only went to the gym one time last week and ate more food because I didn't want to lack in nutrition when I'm trying to get over being sick. I ate zaxby's fried chicken fingers and french fries yesterday, and felt really bad about it, so I didnt eat anything else yesterday which put me at the right calorie level, but I should not be eating that crap. I know I need a fill if I can eat fried chicken fingers!

Today I was a paragon of virtue and only ate: coffee w/ sf creamer, nonfat light keylime pie flavoried yogurt, Live Active Light cottage chese snack pack and a Protein drink. I'm going to go the gym tonight as well and do weights and cardio.

I really need a fill, so I'm going to do the next week on pure will-power and good decision-making. I'll let you know how it goes.

  15. Wow! I like your doctor's agressive fill 4.5cc at one time amazing. How is the fill working for you today?

Yeah, I think he felt confident giving me such a big fill because..

    1. I have a big aps band (10cc)

    2. I live near by and he's always on call to unfill if needed

    3. I have had no issues, no vomiting, no pb, no getting stuck, and can eat anything

    4. The Water I drank after the fill went down with no problem.

My fill has been great. I'm never hungry unless I smell food (head hunger) and I have been able to eat and drink fine. In the past four days, I've eaten cottage cheese, V8 squash Soup, yogurt, coffee, scrambled eggs with cheese, Protein drink, sliced tomatoes and olives, sliced deli turkey, tostidos chips and dip (bad me!!!) and shrimp, all with no problem. I just get full right away and like I said, don't get hungry again. It's great! I probably could use a little more restriction in the future, but for now it's A Okay!!!:grouphug:
