Here is a pic before the pre-op diet and about a week after surgery. The different is about 20 pounds, and it shows the most in my face. I apologize for the crappy webcam photo.

Do you have a December Date?

Hi, I'm on day 10 and my surgeon told me it will be normal to get hungry, because there is no fluid in your band yet. As of yesterday, I was on limited liquids (full liquids, but limited). As of now, I'm on pureed food for four days, then soft food for four days, and after that real food as tolerated. I know I my stomach was growling and I really felt hungry when someone else was eating next to me. I tried to ignore it and drink a protein shake. It is normal to be hungry. You don't have any restriction yet. The only restriction we feel is from the stomach swelling and maybe our stomach shrinking or being used to not eating from the pre-op diet. My doc said that you really start not being hungry and losing weight after the first fill. Hang in there! Congrats everyone who has had surgery and I'm glad everyone is doing well!!! Good luck to those who are going this week! You'll do great!!!:tt1:

    First Pre-Op Dr. Appt.

:thumbup:SO i had my first post-op doctor's appointment and it went well. No infection in the incisions, I'm feeling great, and I've lost 11.6 pounds since surgery. I've lost about 25 lbs since right before the pre-op diet. My blood pressure is pretty high--160/100 and has been for the past three visits. I've always had kind of low blood pressure, even when I was more overweight and I thought losing weight drops your BP? I thought it might be the Wellbutrin, so the doc said to stop taking it. He said I shouldn't have to wean off it because I've only been taking it for about 3 months. Also he prescribed a low dosage of some beta blocker , toporal? or something to get my BP down. I'm on to a PUREED DIET!!!! I'm really excited about this because it means I get to chew something. I'm allowed soft cooked eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes and anything pureed in a blender, as well as all the stuff on the liquid diet. I do this for 3-4 days and then I'm on to soft foods, which include soft veggies, toast and crackers, tuna, shrimp, fish, and finely ground meat. I do that for four days, and then I'm on a regular healthy diet as tolerated. That means normal food in about a week! I'm almost scared to eat normal food. I'm doing so well on the liquid diet, I don't want to mess it up. I refuse to gain these 11 pounds back or for that much, the 25 lbs since before pre-op. I weighed 305 today. That means just over 5 pounds before I'm under 300! I also realized that my home scale is broken. I weighed yesterdy I went from 309 to 297 later in the day. I need to buy a new scale. I'm trying not to obsess over the scale, but it makes me feel good when it goes down, and also keeps me in check. So far I'm really happy with this band thing. I'll see what happens when I start eating instead of drinking my meals...
  10. Congrats Mike! Walk, walk, walk. I felt really nauseous in the 2nd recovery area, but walked around even though I didn't feel like it and it helped so much. I continued to walk and stay as active as I could (only walking) and it helped so much with the gas. Hope you're feeling great soon!

Do you have a December Date?

Mike, Joanne--Great to hear things are going well! My thought are with those of you in pain and I hope that it gets better very soon. I'm glad to hear that everyone banded this week is doing well except for the pain and nausea reported. Has anyone heard from FL Pete? I hope he is doing well and have him in my prayers along with all of you for a successful recovery.

    December 1st anyone?

Vickie--I hope you feel better soon!! I know that Loratab makes alot of people nauseous. Try to take it with liquids that are as heavy as you are allowed if you still plan to take it. It's much better when it's not on an empty stomach. Good luck and keep us posted!

    December 1st anyone?

Well, after a couple months of getting all my ducks in a row, it is now moving along very quickly! I got a call today stating my surgery would be on December 1st!!! I'm starting to get nervous now, but I'm also very excited. I've only had surgery once before, and that was to have my gallbladder removed a couple of years ago. I was pretty freaked out by the whole going under anesthesia and having someone cut into me then, and I'm starting to get nervous about that now. I"m also kind of scared that I will be unhappy after it's done. I guess it's kind of like pre-wedding jitters, although I've never been married, so maybe not! My mom is coming up for the surgery and I have almost a month off work to adjust to this, so I'm hoping for the best. It's actually been going pretty smoothly since I decided to go for this and I really do believe this was meant to be. I'm 29 years old, single female and I feel like I've been putting my life on hold until I lose weight. I'm looking forward to having more energy, being more comfortable in social situations, and not being a slave to food. I will share with you how it goes!!!:Dancing_sorry:
  14. That is hilarious but it sounds like it might work!!! Thanks everyone for the advice. I appreciate it!!
  15. Okay so I'm six days post-op and feeling great. No issues related to the surgery. I did two days clear liquids and am on limited full liquids--ff/sf pudding, strained soup, nonfat milk and all the stuff from the clear phase until my doctor's appointment on Tuesday when I'll be 9 days post op. Well, I randomly met a guy two days before my surgery and he keeps calling and asking me to do dinner with him. I've been putting him off, but finally agreed to see him on Wednesday evening. I suggested a movie and he said, sure and we'll get something to eat first. What excuse can I use about why I can't eat anything? I don't want to tell him about the surgery until I know him better, but I'm going to have to tell him something, because he's dead set on us sharing a meal together. I'm have nightmares about him picking up pizza and me having to chew and spit it out in my napkin!!!! Any suggestions are much appreciated!!!!

    Down 7

My highest weight was 347 before I went on WW. THen I lost 77 pounds in a little over a year on WW and then gained back almost all of it. I was 320 at the initial consult, then gained about 10 pounds after quitting smoking and eating my "last meals". I lost 13 pounds on the pre-op diet making me 316 on surgery day and I've lost 7 pounds in the six days post op, bringing me to 309. Hope my math is right but there you go!

    Down 7

I'm down 7 pounds since surgery and 21 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. I don't know if this is a fluke and I'm going to gain it all back when I get off liquids, but I'm loving this thing so far. I'm six days post-op and feel great!
  20. THanks for the post..I was wondering the same thing. I'm six days post-op and feeling great. I was hungry the day after surgery, but haven't been hungry since. Guess this lack of hunger won't last forever! Too bad, because I'm loving it!

    Tired of the med crushing.

This is really my only complaint so far and I'm six days post -op. I asked about my meds and was told they would prescribe them in liquids. After surgery, was sent home with instructions to crush all of them. The Wellbutrin tasted so bad, I almost gagged. I called the doctor's office to ask if they could call in a liquid version. They said yes, but didn't call me back. I called the pharmacy, who stated that they don't have a liquid form of wellbutrin. I kept crushing them. Then my mom pointed out that is says "don't crush" on the bottle. I called the doctor's office back and they said, oh don't crush the Wellbutrin if it's SR (after three days of crushing). They told me I could try and take it but it might get stuck. I've been taking them ever since with no problems.... I was scared too, but it went down fine.

    btw

By the way, My mom took some pictures at the hospital and I plan to post them as soon as I can get them uploaded.....I'm sure they look horrendous, but that will be even better when I compare them to my "after" pics in a few months!!

    The rollercoaster begins...

What's kind of messed up is that I feel that there are some people just comfortable with us being fat. They are used to us in that role and don't want change. Even if they love us and have good intentions. One of my friends was very negative when I brought it up, so I didn't tell her when I had the surgery scheduled. I'd talk to you dad one on one and tell him how much this means to you and how you need his support. You'll find out that there are alot of people who will support you 100% on this and the others you will just have to prove them wrong!!
