Do you have a December Date?

Thanks. I was really out of control eating up until my pre-op diet date, so I wasn't sure if I'd be able to stick to it. It's weird how food is addictive. Once you get a few days out, it' not as bad. Good luck and thanks for the support!!!

    December 1st anyone?

I'm doing well. As of this morning, I'm down 12 pounds since I started the pre-op diet 7 days ago. I am really getting excited and not really too nervous, just thinking about all the details now that it's so close. As for the mushies, I haven't tried anything yet. Stuff ground up does not appeal to me, so I thought I'd just drink protein shakes, but I'm sure I'll get sick of them. How long do you have to be on mushies? Also, what kind of stuff did you buy for your liquid stage? I've heard all the general rules, but my doctor hasn't given me the specific rules for me yet. I'm sure he will do that at my last appt on Tuesday. I plan to eat a small small piece of turkey and a veggie on Thanksgiving as my pre-op diet allows a meal for dinner as long as I don't go over my 1100 -1200 calories a day. I have been reading threads about the surgery day, and it sounds pretty simple--similar to when I had my gallbladder removed, which has been my only other surgery. I am going to end up with a month off work due to the sick leave running into my Christmas vacation and my boss being very awesome, so I will have time to adjust to eating before I go back to work. I'm really excited!! One week from tomorrow! Keep me updated on how things are going for you!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Okay, I'm on day 6 of the 2 week pre-op diet. 2 weeks of four protein shakes a day(must have 10g protein for every 100cal) and a structured meal (i have a healthy choice meal) and no more than 1100-1200 cal a day total. I've lost 10 pounds in six days!!! I'm sure some of that is water weight and I did gain weight right before I started the diet due to "last meals", but I'm proud of myself because I've been sticking with it. The first two days were horrendous. I really wanted to chew off my arm. After that, it's been smooth sailing. I really haven't even thought about food. I have to remind myself to drink the protein shakes. I did the upper GI and ekg and have to meet back with my Dr. on Tuesday to go over the results and get instructions for the surgery, but 8 days to go and I'll be banded!!!!

    8 days to go!!!

I'll be having surgery in 8 days!!! I'm 6 days into my pre-op diet and I've lost 10 pounds. I feel really good about that, because I've been sticking to the diet really well. Four protein shakes during the day and one healthy choice dinner. Add veggie or healthy choice dessert if I'm still hungry but no more than 1100-1200 calories per day. Some of the 10 pounds is probably water weight and I'm counting from weight that I just gained from having "last meals". The first two days are pure hell, but after that, I have gotten used to drinking my meals instead of eating them. I really haven't been hungry much at all. My boss took me to lunch on Friday, and he knows I'm having surgery, but I didn't tell him what for. I ate 1/3 of a grilled chicken sandwich really slowly and he didn't seem to notice. Then, I just drank a protein drink for dinner. I've been meaning to get to the gym but it is COLD. I mean really COLD for Florida. It's been in freezing temperatures the past few days. When I get off work it's dark and cold and I just want to stay inside and be warm and not go back out. I will definitely start going to the gym after my surgery. I think I can do cardio fairly soon after and weights after 6 weeks or so. I'm really looking forward to losing this weight and starting the new year off right!! I've only told two people at work that I'm doing it and only a few friends and my family. I actually am going to have a month off work counting the Christmas vacation I already scheduled, so I hope to come back to work much lighter. Let the rumors begin!!!

Thanks! I"m excited about it! 8 days to go!

    Background

Okay, here's some background on me. I'm a 29 year old single female. I've been overweight since I was about 10. I've had success with diets off and on through high school and college, but would keep gaining after I lost. I get sidetracked by life and it takes a lot of attention for me to lose weight or even maintain it. I have to go to the gym, eat much less than I want, and pick healthy foods. Sounds doable right? Well, after going to my sister's wedding and seeing most of my relatives who have lost the battle of the bulge, I finally realized that the odds were not stacked in my favor. I consider myself successful--I graduated college and obtained my master's degree while working full time. I have a good career and good friends. However, I just can't seem to succeed at losing weight. It has now gotten to the point where it will negatively impact my health and has definitely hurt my otherwise healthy self-esteem. I'm not dating anyone because I look in the mirror and I can't imagine anyone wanting to be with me. I've dated in the past quite a bit and been fine, but I guess now it has really hit me how overweight I've become. I feel sluggish and my feet hurt and I'm tired all the time. I want to have energy and enjoy life. I want to get dressed up and go out and feel sexy! But most of all, I don't want to look back at my life and feel that I wasted my youth being held back by the 100 and more extra pounds I'm carrying around! So, This is it. I'm hoping it will be! I'm an optimist by nature, so I am hoping and thinking that this will work, not by itself, but though hard work as well. I think that is what makes the lap band appeal to me. It won't work unless I work as well. I don't think I'd appreciate it as much if I didn't have to work for it. So, here I go! I'm scared that I will fail. I'm scared that something will go wrong and I will die. I'm scared that I won't be able to eat and I'll be miserable. But I won't let my fear hold me back. Because, most of all, I"m scared that I will do nothing and doing something to me is always better than doing nothing about a problem. I want to be that success story. I want to inspire others like many have inspired me. Let the journey begin...December 1st here I come!
  10. Hey Trina! Good luck to you too!

    Gainesville Anyone?

I'm in Gainesville and am having surgery on December 1st with Dr. Brient at North FLorida. I have been communicating with someone else in Gainesville who is having hers on December 14th at Shands. I'd definitely be up to get a group going.

    Surgery Question

Yeah, I had gallbladder surgery and they made me get naked under my gown. Later, I had orange/yellow betadine looking stuff on my stomach and the underside of my boobs were sticky, like they had been duct taped out of the way..lol. I'm not comfortable getting naked in front of ANYONE, but they give you some happy drugs before you go in and then you're so knocked out before and after, you don't even think about it. THe worst is the anticipation. Once you get to the hospital and get in the gown, you can actually ask for something to calm you down. It worked for me!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

I can totally relate. I just got my surgery date today and it is December 1st! It seems like I've been waiting forever, and then when I got the call today, I was pretty shocked that it's only 16 days away! Luckily, my BC/BS is covering it and I'm going to Dr. Brient in Gainesville, FL. I'm nervous and scared as well!! Good luck!

Do you have a December Date?

I got the call today at work and it just seems unreal! I am a whirlwind mix of excited and nervous! It seems so close now! I'm starting my pre-op diet, which is mostly protein drinks (small dinner) on Monday!!!

Do you have a December Date?

I finally got my date!!! It's December 1st!!! I'm so happy I just made the cutoff to be a December bandster!!!!!!:Dancing_sorry:
  22. This is a great idea. I've been very unmotivated to exercise. I think it has something to do with the fact that it's usually dark alread when I get off work. This should help me commit to it. I have a gym membership, so I plan on using it starting this week!
  23. Well, I've been approved for surgery from my insurance, and am anxiously awaiting a surgery date. It's taken about 3 months since I saw my doctor and decided to do this. I'm hoping to have a date this week. I keep asking if it's going to be before the end of the year and they keep telling me yes, but I won't believe it until I hear it for sure!! How's it going with you?

    Hair Salon Tipping..how much?

I've always wondered how much to tip too. I usually leave 20% but it does sometimes seem like a lot if the cut/color is expensive. I was a waitress during college, so I do tend to overtip. I feel like a few extra dollars out of my pocket can really make a difference to the person and you'd be surprised how far a good tip goes towards the way you are treated next time!
