  1. Ok I have not had the lap band on yet will be banded on Oct.21. I've looked everywhere and can't find anything on when food gets stuck. What happens how do you deal with it, does it hurt? If anyone has any answers or info on stuff getting stuck I would love to here. Im very worried about that. I was reading people get biscuits and stuff stuck in there stomach after lapband. Will I never be able to eat a biscuit or bread again.

  2. In your opinion, was the book primarily geared towards gastric or did it have separate sections for lap banders? I know the liquid diets etc are probably the same for both types of patients, but I was curious. I was thinking of heading to the book store this week to see what they have before ordering online. I love to look through the books before buying them to see what they're all about. I'm usually a novel reader, so this would be out of my reading range, but for my new lifestyle, it'll be worth it!

I went to Barnes & Nobel and they only had the one book. It has all types of weight loss surgery in it, but mainly gastric and lap band. I wish they had a better selection.

  3. CyndyG: I am going to the three hour pre-op class tonight and starting the liquid diet tomorrow. My surgery date is Octover 7th. I'll let you know about the liquid diet but carol422 has already posted it in a thread. Basically, it is Atkins Advantage shake for breakfast and lunch and 4 ounces of lean protien and 1/2 cup of veggies for dinner. Plus you can have two serving each of sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles and chicken or beef broth. Ummm, sounds yummy! Haha! If it turns out to be different from this, I'll let you know. When is your pre-op class? I know your surgery is in October, right?

My pre-op class is Oct. 6th and my surgery is Oct. 21. Good Luck!

  4. Has anyone started there liquid diets? How is it going? I can't wait until next week to meet some of you. I just got the book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. Lots of info. and recipes and menus for clear liquid, liquid and soft food diets. It has educated me a little more and made me a little scared about the changes after the surgery. Like I said I can't wait until the support group. Will there be people there that already have gone through all of this?

  5. I just got the book "weight loss surgery for dummies" , lots of info.. It has says to take pic. and measurements before surg. and then start to journel and write down the things you think you will be able to do when you start losing the weight and that will be a great goal starter. I thought it was a great idea. It also has sample menu's for liquid diet then soft foods. It has been answering a lot of my questions. It also gives a lot of other web sites to check out.

Good luck to all those who are on their liquids.!

  6. I was suppose to have surgery on Oct. 7 but my DH will be out of town for the first two weeks of Oct.

I have to ask has anyone had a problem with eating more since they started? I seem to be hungry or just wanting to be putting something in my mouth the closer and closer I get to getting my lap band. I don't know if its nerves or psychological mind craziness. I seem to be eating until Im uncomfortable. Maybe I know after the lap band I won't be able to eat this stuff but the weight is coming back on.

  7. Im so excited  I finally got my surg. date 10-21-08. I start my pre-op diet on the 6th the day after my birthday. My new birthday will be Oct. 21. The only bad news is they told me I have to pay $300 by the 15th for classes and a year to there gym. My DH is not happy seeing how he doesnt want me to do this anyway and now I have to pay more money. I told him to think of how much money I spent on diets that didn't work and to think of it as cheaper on more diets I would have tried and failed. This all just makes me want to try that much harder to succeed.

  8. Ok, I'm fairly new to all of this. I love this place. I've learned more on this web site than anywhere. I began this journey in Dec. of 07. I've done my pulmonary. check, my heart check and my psyc. check and have approval from Ins. I'm waiting for the Dr office to get the pulm. ok which is just a fax away. Then I will get my surgery date.

I've been researching lapband A LOT! What I don't understand is after people have the surgery there talking about keeping track of calories and eating healthy (I get the health part), but don't you think if I could count calories and stuff I wouldn't need the surgery. I mean I still hear people saying how hungry they are. THATS HOW I GOT OVER WEIGHT! :lovechoc: How does it change after having the lapband, if your still hungry and half to count calories and stuff?

Does having the surgery give you the will power that you don't have befor it?

My biggest reason for doing this is to get weight off so my knees and back stops hurtting enough for me to exercise more. But if I still have to do the whole calorie counting, food jurnals and hunger pains, what am I having this surgery for?

    Please someone HELP?:P

  9. I have BC/BS PPO, I just got my approval letter Friday. I had to have a BMI of 40, and had to do a 6 month diet, and get approval from a heart, respiratory, and phyc. Dr. I also had to give them a copy of the last 5 years of being over weight. I had to lose 15lbs for approval. Im waiting for my surgery date. Its taken me 9 months to get here. I hope its all worth it.
