  1. I'm blanking - what is SB Phase 1? I only have to do liquids 2 days before my surgery. For me, it's been 7 months since I went to the surgeon's seminar. I'm a little skeered but mostly I am excited!!!!!

Oh and Linda - your quote is great!

Bimbabe - remind me to pop you in the head about your continued "Libras rule" comments when we're in the hospital!!!!!!! ;-)

    Okay SNT! How about this??

    OCTOBER ROCKS

    LIBRAS RULE!!! LOL:thumbup:

What kind of pre op diets does everyone have to be on? I have to be on sb phase 1 for the week before surgery to shrink my liver.

  3. Thanks to everyone on this thread for being here when I needed them.

I was all set to go with the band, but at my first surgery consult today, he recommended RNY because of my age (52), BMI (51.7) and number of meds I take every day, including insulin. He said insulin-dependent diabetics respond better to the bypass.

So now I've got to think about what I'm going to do. I'll definitely check out the Dummies book and Thinner Times forum someone mentioned on here.

    Good luck to everyone!

    Hello Julia

I chose RNY because of the diabetes thing as well. While I am not diabetic yet, it is just a matter of time. A study was done which demonstrated that RNY is a cure for type II DM.

Goodluck on your surgery. I can hardly wait. It's has been a long time getting to this point for me, I really need the help the band an give me.

Eventhough, I'm from Cali, I worked 5 years at Hartfield Airport and really enjoyed ATL. I had actually considered coming back to Atl for my banding, but eveything worked out here in Pasadena. Once my husband retires, we are considering moving to ATL.

I wish you all the luck.

Thanks! Good luck to you as well. Hopefully, you will be able to come to ATL, let's meet! We don't have too much longer.....

  5. Hello everyone,

I truly am addicted to caffiene:scared2:, I hope I am not the only one. How did you deal with no caffiene? Did you go cold turkey or did you wean yourselves. I am having surgery in about 22 days, so I need to start doing something about it.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.:rolleyes2:

  6. Hi I have not been banded yet but I have done enough research to know its what i want to do. I just don't know where to go from here. Do i just look up a doctor? Do i need a referal from my primary care (which is against me on this)? I live in rhode island and there aren't too many doctors to choose from. I do not know of anybody personally who has any bariatric surgery to ask questions to.If anybody could help, i would greatly appreciate it. Also if anyone is from R.I. i would love to hear from you! Thanks so much. Best wishes to all of you!

Hello! I was just reading through and saw that you are in RI. I grew up there, but left in '86 (probably before you were born). Anyway, I do not personally know any physicians in RI, but you may want to PM jayne1131, she is going to be banded soon and she lives in RI. She may at least be able to send you to an information session.

    Good Luck!!!

  7. I received insurance authorization paperwork on Saturday in the mail...and then our area had the "wind" from Hurricane Ike...and knocked out our power, landline phone, and cell phone until yesterday. Sadly, it also knocked out the bariatric center because I tried to take it there on Monday to try to schedule something! (can you tell I'm anxious?)

The earliest date I could work out is October 22nd...but I am SO looking forward to it! My husband is very supportive. I've told my mother and two co-workers who have been banded...but that's it so far. I have teen daughters that I am hesitating telling...but we'll see. If the time seems right I will.

I love the idea of being part of a group who will go through similar things/emotions at the same time.
