  1. Hey shrinkinmom! How cool would it be if we had the surgery at the same time...you never know!!! I don't actually know the time of surgery yet. They only told me the day. The papers I just received yesterday said that the nurse would call me the day before surgery to tell me what time to come to the hospital. I will ask however when I speak to Liz at Dr. Geiss's office...maybe they know now. The papers I got also had info about the date and time of the educational class; my pre-admission tests at the hospital a week before surgery; and my first post-op appt with Dr. Geiss. I also have to have my regular internist...pcp...fill out some papers about my medical history.

My dog, Juliette, is actually a retired racing greyhound from New Hampshire. I adopted her from Long Island Greyhound Transfer (LIGHT), which is a rescue organization. What is your dog's name. Juliette just turned 5 in August. She is the 3rd greyhound I have adopted. After my surgery I will think about getting her a "sibling" to get into trouble with...lol!

  2. Wow Susan...24 pounds in 17 days! That's amazing. You are doing greyt! Do you attend the support meetings the same support meetings sponsored by Dr. Geiss's office? I want to go after I have surgery. I have my educational class with June on Oct 21. What is that like? By the way...the scheduler is Liz. I just got a packet of materials from her.

  3. Hi Everyone! Thank you all for the encouragement and support. I really appreciate it.

Shrinkinmom: There is nothing special for me to do until the surgery...except follow the preop liquid diet the week prior to surgery. I also have to go to a Preop Class on Oct 21. They are sending me lots of materials in the mail. And yes...I will be a smaller size by Christmas and I can't wait!!!

Twiceblessd: I think I got the call about 2 days after the file went in for review. Jennifer said it would be reviewed by the PA on Monday afternoon and I got the call on Thurs morning at 9am. So you will hear from them soon!!! Dr. Geiss does surgery on certain days. The first available day was Tues Nov 4. I wanted to have it done on a Mon if possible because I have Training Sessions every Fri (I am a psychotherapist) and I thought I would have more time to recover. Also I wanted to be able to vote since it is Election Day. So she said the next available day was Nov 10 and I took it quickly...grabbed it up is more like it!!!

Susancarole: Thank you so much for your offer of information. I will definitely have lots more questions and get much more nervous as the date approaches. Thank you for being here!!! How are you feeling? What has it been like for you the past few days? Thanks!

  4. Hi everyone!

Chris: I'm so happy you were able to schedule all of your appts so quickly. If you need follow-up appts, don't worry...they still can schedule them quickly. I did and I told each doc's secretary that I was trying to schedule surgery quickly (the secretaries don't usually know why that you are seeing the doc for surgery clearance) and they were very cooperative in scheduling appts fast. I got a call yesterday from Dr. Geiss's office and they said my file is complete. The PA will now review it and I should get a call in a few days to schedule surgery! YAY!!! I can't wait! Oh, and my sweet dog is a retired racing greyhound. I adopted her from Long Island Greyhound Transfer. She is my 3rd greyhound so far. I'm thinking about adopting a friend for her sometime after my surgery.

Good luck to you Sooverit! Let me know how your appt goes with the NYU doc.

How are you feeling Susan? Where in Nassau County do you live? I live in Oceanside.

How is everyone else doing? I'll let you know as soon as I get my surgery date...I'm so excited!!!

  5. Hi Everyone. Chris, I had the same experience with Dr. Newmark. He did all tests on the first and only visit I had with him. I did have to have a sleep study which I scheduled for 2 days later. After being diagnosed with sleep apnea as a result of the study, I had to have another sleep study called a titration study to determine the correct setting for the cpap machine. So that took another 2 weeks or so. My cardiologist did the ekg during my first visit. I had to go back 2 more times for the echocardiogram and the stress test, but it was all done within a week. So don't be disappointed if you have to go back for tests; you can still get it all done pretty quickly. I had my initial consult on 8/1 and I am now completely finished with all tests. I am expecting to get my surgery date from Dr. Geiss this week. And, it is definitely greyt to have a buddy to go thru all of this.

  6. Hi Chris. I did the same exact thing when I left his office after my initial consult. I am really impressed with Dr. Geiss also, as well as his staff. The pulmonologist I used was Dr. Newmark whose office is across the street from the hospital. He is very good. I just finished all of my preop testing and am now waiting for Dr. Geiss to review my clearances and schedule a surgery date. Please keep me posted on your progress and we'll match notes!!!

    Lisa

  7. Once again this is a case of purposely taking comments out of context and feigning outrage! "Lipstick on a pig" is an expression that has been used often. Cheney used it in 2004; McCain himself used it recently when referring to Hillary Clinton's plans. So, please, let's be fair! The Republicans are using this as a distraction so they don't have to talk about the issues.

With respect to sex education, the same is true. Obama was referring to "age-appropriate sex education"...inappropriate touching...to protect them from pedophiles.

So if you don't agree with Obama's policies, that's your right...but don't concentrate on purposeful distractions. Let's stick to the issues.

  8. That's good to know susancarole! Hey twiceblessed...maybe we'll have surgery at the same time and we can meet. At any rate, we should all get together when we have finished our surgery if you would like that! I would!

I have also been very impressed with Dr. Geiss and his staff. They have all been so nice and helpful. I've only called a couple of times, but they remembered me each time.

  9. Hi LCube-

I do feel well, thank you! There is hardly any residual pain. I don't know if you saw my other posts, but the only problem I had with the whole thing was a little nausea directly after surgery and some gas trapped under my ribcage and shoulders. Honestly, that was the most uncomfortable thing. I walked a lot, even one half hour after surgery! That finally got rid of the painful gas. (But, not everyone gets the gas pain.) The two other women who had surgery the same day as me did NOT have that pain. So you see, you will be in great hands!

    Good luck!

Thank you! I only met Dr. Geiss once so far but I am very impressed and I believe I am in good hands. The staff in his office has been greyt. I'm so glad you feel well. Do you know if he does surgery on certain days of the week. I'm trying to think about my schedule. I want to get this done as soon as possible. Please keep me posted about how you are doing and feeling.

  10. Hi, I was just banded September 2 by Dr. Powers, who is Dr. Geiss' associate. After all of your initial testing is complete, they review your file and then you get a surgery date. Make sure you call the office to make sure your file is complete. They schedule the date, then submit to your insurance company. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. So far, so good with me (even though it has only been 5 days.)

    Good luck!

I hope you feel well. I'm getting nervous...I expect to get my surgery date sometime this week. They are now booking for the 2nd or 3rd week in October.

  11. twiceblessed -

I had to do a sleep study. 2 actually ... 1 to determine I have(had) sleep apnea and 1 to see what levels I would need for a CPAP machine. (that I never used)

I'm not going to lie, it wasn't fun but it was a requirement. Scheduling wasn't easy so you should look into it ASAP!

I had to do 2 also. I didn't get my machine yet.

  12. Thanks for the support JWRN

But if you watch what the others write and how they write it and the things they won't believe about Obama that is in Black and White and with his questionable upbringing--if they want to be blind LET Them. If Obama becomes Pres they will see what will happen.

By the way, my husband is also Active duty and has served this country for 18 1/2 years and my father did too for 21 1/2. I have the utmost respect for our men and women in uniform and for our country. YOu cannot just pull our troops out of a war until their mission is complete or what we went there for will be in vain. If you don't support the war that's all fine and dandy but it's a job that must be finished. And you cannot put a timeline on pulling out it must be done gradually.

Once again I am not a Racist. I am a God fearing, gun toting, military wife and daughter, sister ,mother, nurse, Supporter of our Troops and Country and a tried and true REPUBLICAN.:thumbup:God Bless Our Troops and God Bless America.

Oh please divamom give it a rest already! You keep saying you are not a racist...thou doesth protest too much!!! Who are you trying to convince??? Just because you say so doesn't make it true. Your earlier statements say it all! You can read whatever bizarre propaganda you want to...but it doesn't make that true either.

Stop already with this divisive talk and go join a Republican chat room. This forum is supposed to be about LapBands!!!
