I have a question! I had my surgery on Wed and I’m so so thirsty for cold Water. They said tiny sips but will I really stretch out my pouch? I’m thirsty! Do I have to take tiny little sips over and over ? And how much can I sip? I don’t want it to sit in my pouch and stretch it.

Avoid drinking too much too fast, as it is likely to not only hurt but can do damage, especially being that recent to your surgery date. I would constantly sip all day long. It takes roughly 10 seconds or so for a sip of Water to run to your stomach and through it, so to be safe I would leave about 30 seconds minimum in between sips to ensure it has cleared your stomach. And for safety's sake, if you feel a "new" pain, stop stop stop sipping until the pain fully goes away. If you constantly sip, you shouldn't have a terrible time reaching your goal. Once you are hydrated that thirst feeling subsides quite a bit.

    Best of luck to you.

  2. The way I found my "limit" was to start with 1 sip from a 1 ounce cup every 15 minutes. See how your body tolerates it. If it tolerates it well, then move to 1 sip every 14 minutes, then 13, and so on and so forth. It is a process but you will find your limit within a day or two. One of the one ounce cups should probably take you 2-3 sips to get through, although everyone is different so test that out. If you feel a new pain after your sip, stop and let it fully go away before taking another sip. I think these steps should help anyone with their Water intake.

Using those steps I was able to find my limit, then I would gradually increase it to my comfort level. I'm just about 3 weeks post op and I'm able to drink about 10-12 ounces an hour or so. It's really important you listen to your body though. The good thing is, as of week 4 your stomach should be healed up and your chance of it bursting/popping is significantly reduced at this point.

Hey girl! Scheduled for November 15! Super close to you! Very excited and nervous at the same time. Then again this is a start to a new life and I get so happy at thinking of how life will be after

I just had mine 11/2 and so far so good. I was excited and very nervous as well, almost to the point of canceling in the pre-op room....lol I'm very happy I went forward though.

Best of luck to you in your journey!!

Day 3 of preop diet. Going better than yesterday, I was sick already of the sweetness of the shakes. Today I changed it up with the brands and flavors so it has been okay.

I do get to have some chicken/tuna and veggies, so that is my saving grace for the day, but this is hard lol.

Will try the broth and other options when I feel like I can't take anymore sweeteners, thankfully the implications of not doing it correctly keep me in check.

I get so jealous of those that were able to have some food pre-op. My surgeon had me on a strict clear liquid diet with absolutely nothing to eat. I am so looking forward to day 1 of week 3 post-op where I can some dang mashed potatoes down the hatch

    Me too, good luck tomorrow!!

Thank you to everyone who has given updates, it really helps to hear the different experiences. I'm SO nervous now that it's almost here and I'm questioning whether I really want to do this 😬 However, I know I need to do this and will be glad I did.

I honestly think that's a natural part of the entire process for a lot of people. I was sitting in that pre-op room and seconds away from telling them to call it off. I'm really glad I didn't. I wish you the best, let us know how it goes.

I had my surgery!!!! Doing good with fluids. Pain was terrible for me when i first woke up. I hurt most on my left side at my stomach. I have been up walking. Getting up and back down are the very worst.

Ugh, that 1st and second day, standing up was tough. I felt like I was going to stretch my abdomen too far. Glad you're doing well.

  7. Day 6 post-op and I am feeling fantastic. liquids are going down quite easy. Up to about 7-8 ounces an hour, easily getting my 64oz min a day. Down about 10lbs so far. I think I have been one of the really lucky ones because I have not felt the need to take 1 Tylenol since coming home (the 1st and 2nd day in the hospital I did). Incisions healing up very nicely, though still a bit bruised/tender. I don't say this to brag at all, I just want people going into this to know there are various outcomes after surgery.

Don't push yourself too hard, although you need to be very conscious of what you're doing afterward. One of the ways I was able to find my limit to Water intake was to start with 1 sip from a 1 ounce cup every 15 minutes. See how your body tolerates it. If it tolerates it well, then move to 1 sip every 14 minutes, then 13, and so on and so forth. It is a process but you will find your limit within the first day or two. One of the one ounce cups should probably take you 3 sips to get through, although everyone is different so test that out. If you feel a new pain after your sip, stop and let it fully go away before taking another sip. I think these steps should help anyone with their water intake.

I am terrible at logging into here, but I will try hard to update as often as possible with what I have found to be helpful for me for those that would like an opinion.

To everyone who has recently had or has an upcoming surgery, I wish you nothing but the best. If you have questions or would like to know anything please ask, I'm happy to share.

  8. I've been struggling with the decision for about 4 years now. Back and forth on if I want it or not, only because it's a permanent option. That being said, I had a son about a year and a half ago which is my absolute world and I could not imagine a day without him, so I decided to go through with the surgery to help me lose the weight quickly, but give me the tools to keep it off this time, in order for me to be around for a long long time. Now I find out that my wife is pregnant with our next child, so this is perfect timing.

  9. For those of you with an iPhone, the new update (iOS 16) has added medication reminders native to the iPhone. You can find it in the Health app. If you own an Apple Watch as well, the reminders go right to your wrist.

I know that there are other apps that do it, but I find the native apps much more reliable, in my opinion. Just figure I'd let everyone know.
