Your whole body composition kind of shifts around as it gets used to your new size and dimensions. I always compared it to feeling like going through puberty again, every day some new surprise, some good some bad!

I didn't notice any skin tightening (I wish, though!), but I do know fat seems to re-distribute during or after weight loss. I looked pretty gaunt (and frankly, kind of awful) when I hit my lowest weight, but I looked a lot better a few months later, even though I hadn't gained any weight (yet...I unfortunately did during year 3, which is common). My face didn't look so drawn anymore and I just looked better - healthier. I think things just kind of moved around. So that might be what's going on with you, too.

My engagement ring (a year pre-op) was a 9; my wedding ring (a year POST op) is a 5. I got married at the end of September and it's already too big...ugh! I'd like to know when they're gonna start shrinking too!

I found B12 supplements were critical a couple months post op. First I got them from my WLS surgeon during follow ups. Then I switched to sublingual pills once a week

Hope that your progress is getting better. Are you still using the restroom more frequently or has that leveled out a bit? My RNY procedure is 12/2, this Friday. Super nervous yet excited as well.

HealthyVibes got a reaction from Cpach81 in 4 weeks down!
Hi! Just a little update 4 weeks after my RNY.
I'm 43, have lupus and gained a lot of weight after 3 years of steroids. The extra weight adds more complications to my disease and I have really struggled to lose it on my own.
I was 309 before surgery, 295 day of and currently at 278. I'm 5'8" and have always been a bigger woman with my lowest weight at 215. But at that weight I was very active, fit and healthy... until I got sick.
This has not been an easy process for me and I was really losing my mind at the 3 week mark.
But after week 4, I'm finally feeling a little more energy and a little more human.
Some things I didn't really expect: I've become lactose intolerant. I sometimes get sick (nausea and crampy) after just sipping Water. And I use the restroom much more frequently than I did before, which makes me a little nervous to socialize and even more nervous to travel. I hope this gets better!
Other than that, I'm learning that slow progress is still progress! And I've already discontinued 2 of my lupus related meds, so I know I made the right choice!
If anyone is having a hard time, I hope this helps.. it WILL get better!

20lb in 1 month is amazing... Just keep at it. you will slow down in weight loss as you progress out. I am at 6 months and the previous month i only lost like 7lb and so far in two weeks i have lost 2lb... just keep working on it!

HealthyVibes reacted to Cpach81 in I feel guilty eating
I’m 5 1/2 weeks post op and really have no problem with any food I’ve tried. I’m able to get in my low Protein requirement and stay well below my calorie requirement. I try to bump that up so I’m hitting the low end of my goal, but I am just not able to. However, doing all of this now that I can actually eat real food again is leaving me feeling extremely guilty, as if I’m just gorging. In my mind, I know I’m not, I’m eating well within my plan, but I feel so gross like I used to before surgery when I’d eat crap. On top of this, I’ve hit my first plateau and have only lost 1lb in 2 weeks, which makes me feel even worse. Anyone else feel this horrible guilt? How did you work past it?

We're human, and are all capable of bad choices. Just go back to the plan. New day, clean slate. A couple days doesn't have to be forever.
I started losing my mind between weeks 2 and 3. But it gets better. You'll be ok. -

My also gall less sister-in-law & I both experience the too much acid diarrhoea attacks. It comes on us more quickly than usual diarrhoea & the cramping feels a little different. Doesn’t hurt to ask if it could be contributing. I also over produce acid so if I don’t eat regularly I can have issues too.

I say why wait until 50 years. Renew your vows now and get the wedding band at least. You can still do a fancy new engagement type or anniversary ring for your 50th to complement it.

I'm just over a year out and have maybe 15 more pounds I'd like to lose. My rings are dangerously loose, so my husband bought me some ring sizers and they help. I went in and had my finger sized just out of curiosity, and I've gone from an 8 to a 6.5! That just seems crazy to me.
Anyway, I won't get them sized until I stop losing weight as I don't want to have to do it again later.

I never had an original wedding ring. 47 years ago, when I ordered my original wedding ring it never arrived in time for our wedding. The jeweller lost my request. I was heartbroken. I got married in my sister's wedding ring and chose a new ring from a different jeweller when I returned from honeymoon. Years later that ring was stolen. Then I began wearing a deceased parents ring that got too small when I started gaining weight. I bought a second-hand ring that I wear now but like @omrhsn Its slipping off my finger when my hands are cold and wet. I will go back to the parents' ring but TBH, no ring feels like a true wedding ring as I didn't wear any of mine at the ceremony
Maybe when we have been married 50 years we can renew our vows and I could get a new ring !

It makes sense to wait until the weight stabilizes. I'm struggling with clothes now as I have to buy new ones almost every other month. I can't do the same with my wedding ring tho. I will keep the old one and just get another fitting one. Maybe do it next year for our 10th wedding anniversary 😀

Once your weight stabilises you should be ok to get your rings resized.
I had one resized but it turned out to be too early as I continued to loose. Can’t get it any smaller though because of its design (I got it down to a H but it needs to be a F.5 now). I use those clear spiral resizers (got mine from Amazon) as I still have rings, which had been small, I haven’t resized - can get expensive if you have a few to do. Good interim solution to loose rings.
As a side note, I recently had a monogram ring made & sent my mum a pxt. She said she liked the ring but went on & on about the loose skin on my hands - as if I didn’t know! Sigh!!

For those of you that have lost most of your weight, when do your hands stop getting smaller?
I'm just wondering when will be a good time to get my wedding ring sized?
