  1. So i'm a medical marijuana user and I've stopped using for a few months for my surgery and I asked my nurse when I could start again and she just said "Well I wouldn't recommend it because it can make you crave foods" Like, first of all weed affects everyone differently. ALSO that's to say I have no self control or sense. I have the common sense to know not to try to eat things i'm not supposed to after surgery even if i'm high. Like they act as if when i'm high I forget what planet i'm on. It's so annoying. I'm not just going to stop smoking weed but I also will wait until it's safe for me to. When did you guys start back again? Don't tell me to try to quit because that's not happening.

I dont smoke myself but my friend smokes and she has gastric bypass done 3 years ago, she said she waited until she was on the full diet mainly because she wanted to make sure she got use to the amounts she could eat, the amount of times including Snacks everything just because she didn't want to get high near a meal time and tale a few bites to many... she figured once her was in a routine of all that it would be easier for her to maintain her portions and smoke as needed, her biggest fear was taking even 2-3 more bites then supposed to because that made her hurt, uncomfortable and sometimes throw up, and she was afraid of eating faster then she was supposed to because her time is off when she's high and that causes the same symptoms as too much food for her....

She saids she's been smoking again for a few years now, and would just suggest you be very careful when you start back up because even if you feel you have everything under control now, and don't normally get certain types of highs your whole body system is changing not just your stomach.... her highs changed after and you just need to watch for that, and be very careful when your stomach is still healing.
Other then that everyone is different and handles things differently, if you try and you do fine great if you try and feel you need to wait longer by all means do what's best for you

  2. So anyone on an unrestricted diet try crunchy food yet. I don't have any restrictions other then they say that peas, corn or steak might not digest well. I've been afraid to eat crunchy food though. I really want to eat baby carrots or raw broccoli but I'm afraid it will hurt my stomach or get stuck or something. So has anyone tried things like that yet and how did it go?

I haven't tried any yet, I really want to, but my team suggested waiting until I'm about 2 months post op before trying crunchy vegetables... so I'm in the same place as you right now ...

  3. Wow. Your experience sounds awful, but the advice about an IV sounds good to me. I am only one week post op, so I have nothing to add, except what one of the nurses at my hospital had me do - he had me set a 20 minute alarm and basically laid out a bunch of pill cups filled with Water to drink. One every twenty minutes. It has helped.
That's smart, I went and got a 2oz sauce cup lol and would try to drink one every 1p min but my biggest problem was that it hurt even with the smallest sipps, and I'd feel full almost to the point of getting sick so I'd have to stop, I changed it to 2oz threw out 15-w0 min, sane thing but I'm now doing better with that, still not above 40oz a day but definitely getting better, and my primary doctor has had me set up for 2 bags if fluids 1-2 days a week since it happened, I'm very grateful for that, she said we will discontinue the Fluid appointments when I can drink at least 55-68 oz of Water a day ....

  4. I don't think anything should ever be off limits, but I do think we have to do what our stomach can handle. I am a month out and I actually took a small taste of my son's birthday cake this weekend. I was fine and I didn't beat myself up. I normally do very low carb/no sugar. I think we will be able to eat foods, just much smaller amounts.
That's awesome, thats how I think to
... everything in moderation, I was off burgers and greasy foods as well as little to no salt because 1 trying to loose weight before surgery, and 2 my mom has a bad stomach, as well as healthy conditions and can't eat alot of stuff and we usually eat together several times a week.... I think my biggest thing was it was real food, that I enjoyed (and was still pretty healthy) but I haven't had a bite of real food in 5 weeks between pre op diet and post op diet I am hoping I get a salad soon, I need to look up how long after surgery they say before I should be able to eat raw vegetables again...

My dad has suggested since it's something I'm craving now. To Pick a goal, weather it be a scale number, a time frame, a outfit to fit into.... and make that as my reward lol but I'm trying to make it to where food is no longer a reward, and more of just fuel

  5. I personally would not visit a restaurant until I'm ok to eat. Why put myself through that torture. I will be entering puree stage on Thursday. We knew what we were getting into when we decided to have this surgery. Do I crave sure, but I know I'm not gonna be on puree for ever.

True, and I should have stayed home, I just missed 2 family get together already and missed everyone, so i thought I'd be ok since I didn't eat the pizza and things from there before.... and honestly didn't think I would miss salad that much, but I think it's more the being able to eat anything regular food wise... because had I been on regular foods and raw vegetables and everything I could have gotten something healthy and been good, but yeah I'm pretty sure it's more the missing just regular food in general, although they do have an awesome salad bar lol

  6. Thank you everyone. My biggest concern honestly is going under and not waken up. I got 3 babies so I guess that's what I am worried about.

I'm a single mom of a 5 year old and that was my biggest concern, and terrified she would be placed with her bio dad that she doesn't know, she scared of men she doesn't know, so the thought of her being forced into a house where she doesn't know anyone and her being terrified of the person who's supposed to be her primary parent .... I cried several times just thinking about it.... but I did what I needed to, to help things, I went to local child advocate and asked her if I could pay to retain her just incase, so that my child had an impartial person speaking for her that the judge couldn't ignore.... she refused to take any payment, but took my information and surgery date, as well as my parents information.... she had me call her with in 3 days of my surgery, she said I'd I dudnt call she would file with children's services to be her legal representative.... so that she could legally call my parents as well as start the process to get them full sole custody.... it actually made me feel better

I know that was long but my only point is do anything you think will help your peace of mind even of it seems like to much, it can really help your mindset going in and coming out. I'm very glad I did it ..... but I really want a salad lol

  7. I'm just curious anyone els sad they can't eat certain things? I'm not sad about the things most people ask me about, I was prepared and not eating things like burgers, anything deep fried ect.... right now I'm sad about not being able to eat a salad, we have this pizza place in town with an amazing salad bar, my family and I would usually eat there 2-3x a month, and I always got the salad bar, I didn't realize how much I'd miss that right now .... everyone went today, and I went because I thought it would be fine, I talked to the manager and since they don't have anything I can eat right now (still on pureed tell monday) they said I could bring in my own dish. Especially when they saw how small the container was so I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on not eating with everyone, so I made a deviled egg salad.... I was so sad seeing the salad bar and knowing it will be a while before I can have any raw veggies [emoji30].... I might set the next one out ....

  8. Thank you everyone I appreciate the support so much, I know after I got home I felt so defeated and I was questioning if I was being overly sensitive or not.... but after hearing from all of you, as well as my primary care doctor being very upset at the situation, I feel a little better about it not being me that caused this .... and my primary care doctor has put in my charts now that anytime I go in for fluids I'm to get 2 bags minimum regardless before being discharged, and the medical director has signed off on it. I'm so grateful to have a doctor that's willing to go the extra mile for me... and to be apart of such a wonderful supportive community on here

  9. I'm still on soft foods until monday but what types of real food are you trying? Its so weird to be set free into the world of food without guidance, I feel like I'm going to be lost.
I just had my 1st meal outside of the house and I survived lol. I had an omelet with mushrooms and onions and it was awesome. I only ate a tiny amount but it was nice to feel normal and I actually love eating such small amounts. I don't feel the negative judgement that was probably all in my head to begin with but it still was nice.
I've suggested this to others as well, but this is the after beriatric surgery book my hospital gives us and it's amazing, I was so surprised to see so many people going into different stages lost about what to eat, so I definitely suggest it to anyone who doesn't have specific instructions from there doctors, it even has a shopping list page for entering the soft food stage, definitely worth a look, it's a pdf you can get from Google I put in a link

  10. I’m 4 weeks post op and I have been nauseous since I had my surgery. It’s too the point I can’t eat or drink. Water makes me the most nauseous with or without crystal light. It feels like the Water gets stuck. My surgeon did an ultrasound last week and said I need my gallbladder removed. I’m hoping this fixes the nausea. Anyone else had these symptoms ?

One of my friends who had sleeve surgery years ago had the same symptoms( she's here and read with me because I was showing her this app lol) but she had that issue about 2 months after her surgery and they took out her gallbladder and she said with in 2 weeks she felt 100x better, so she hopes it gos as well for you.... also her doc prescribed her a 3 day neasua patch (4pk) that she used to help her with her intake until her gallbladder surgery so maybe ask about that to help, and do not be afraid to ask for IV fluids to help, they can give you 2 bags at a time without having to worry about electrolyte dilution

  11. Hi everyone.
I am a 175kg/385lb 23-year old female from Australia and am due for my VSG on November 30th.
I am wanting to know how everyone with Obstructive sleep Apnea went with their surgeries?
I have trouble tolerating my CPAP, however I am trying my best and keeping it on longer and longer each night.
Have recently just quit nicotine vaping too and am really struggling.
I'm hoping to find some friends or support networks for people who are going into surgery around a similar time as me.

Any and ALL advice/opinions are welcome!

I have sleep Apnea and I know they had me bring my machine to the hospital with me. And they set it up in my room, the night I was there I didn't even notice I was wearing my machine because of how tierd I was between the pain meds and the extra groggy feeling from the anastasia I slept pretty hard.... I do tolerate my machine pretty well, but I have had it for about a year and a half or so now. It definitely took me at least 6 months to really adjust to it... mine does have a small Water tank, and I have a few different masks I've tried before I found the one I'm comfortable with and use each night.....

I do know several people that have had either the sleeve or a bypass done who had sleep Apnea, but didn't need there machine for more then 6-8 months after surgery .... each person is different but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and I too :)

    Congratulations on your surgery date.

  12. I didnt have hardly any das pain, but my doctor had me get simethicone, witch is pretty much just gas-x but make sure you get a brand that has very small pills (size of a regular m&m or smaller) or chewable, she had them give me one in the hospital shortly after I got to my room, and I was told I could have them every 4 or 6 hours I can't remember..... but I'm thinking that must have helped me because I only had pain in my stomache from the incision line.... but the hospital was very good at keeping me at a low pain level...

If your doctor offers a nerve block.... take it! Better to be safe then sorry.... alot of doctors have it standard and don't ask just include it in the paperwork you sign to authorize for surgery, and you have to say you dont want it, some specifically ask if you want one.... the only people I've heard say they wished they'd have chosen different are the ones that opted not to have it ....

  13. Dulcilax! It’s says gentle laxative!!! My hind end says not so gentle! It hit me about like a Mac truck on the highway! We are talking shaking, nausea, irreparable damage to my toilet along with my pride! After two rounds of this with the second one not being anywhere near as horrific as the first I was so nauseated that I thought I would take the prescribed medication for that and it didn’t even make it down before it came back up! So my ears are currently the only orifice left unviolated at the moment!!
I'm sorry, definitely sending more prayers!!

  14. Ok guys I swore to share the good the bad and the ugly so here goes… I have not been active in here much lately because I have been absolutely exhausted with work. I left work early to visit an iv bar yesterday! If you are weak and exhausted from lack of Vitamins just go do it trust me!!! It makes a huge difference! On top of that I have never been regular with the potty and that has gotten worse since surgery. So tonight I took it upon myself to take something to help out in that area. For the love of all things holy if you feel the need to go this route DO NOT TAKE THE DOSE RECOMMENDED ON THE BOX!!!! There are approximately 10 steps between my bed and my bathroom if in a hurry and I promise you I made it about 3 of those steps… I have managed to clean myself out and also managed to have the rest of the medication my stomach couldn’t handle come out the top side. So now I am laying in my bed contemplating my life choices and exactly how I might go about recovering from this horrific night… it is well past my bed time and I am terrified to go to sleep!!! Send prayers for my dumb self please!!!
Sending prayers, and think about depends, I know it sounds bad, but I have a friend who has had potty issues for years and she has to resort to magnesium citric and she always makes sure she has a couple depends in the house just incase things go south to quickly.... pun intended.... now I am curious what you took [emoji848]

  15. For everyone on real food, how’s it going? I just started this week and it’s been interesting. I still find myself gravitating to soft foods but I definitely am careful about speed. I ate Breakfast too fast the other day and I had a vomit moment before taking my daughter to school. The amount of food actually eaten is a ridiculously small amount - it’s so bizarre! My plan is not specific at all on what to eat so it’s a lot of trial and error….what are some of your meals like?

I'm not On real food yet, not even on soft foods yet but I wanted to say I've seen a few people saying there plans aren't specific about what to eat or when or different things. If you type in "ohsu bariatric handbook" into Google, there's a pdf file you can download, (I'll try to put a link in) for after beriatric surgery and they give examples of times, food, and alot of different guides to help..... it's actually the program I'm working with and I love how detailed they are about different things

  16. Have you seen those bed wedges? It helps you sorta sit up a little in bed. Would that help? They sell them at medical supply but sis on Amazon. If nothing else it should make it easier to get into and out of bed.
I actually have a set of Orthopedic Bed Wedge Pillows my mom bought me, and I use them, love them because they are velvety, ironically my hand was on that when it slipped, but I do still use it....
I did talk to my doctor and she's pretty sure I pulled on my internal stitches, but she said to take it easy and it should get better and to ice it

  17. I drink Water throughout the night. After each time I potty, I drink more. It’s the only way I can get close to 64oz of Water a day. I’m sure others will prioritize sleep over the hydration but I find this helps me to feel better overall. I have no problem going back to sleep after I wake up and overall get at least 7hrs each night.

On days that I don’t do this, I wake up in the night with terrible dry mouth which is worse to me than just hydrating as I go.
I've done that here and there, my only problem is I can't go back to sleep very easily, but I figured hydrated and tierd is better then dehydrated, but I stopped when the other night because I think I pulled something, my arm slipped out from under me while I was trying to get up. And I ended up in alot of pain on my right side, it felt like I tore something and now trying to move pretty much at all hurts, so now once I lay down I am afraid to move because of the sharp pains and it feels like I'm pulling on something..... but I now go to bed much later then before and am only laying down for about 4 hours or so because I can't really readjust in bed, and my back will start with shooting pains, so then I just get up.... hoping to heal more and get to go back to before

  18. Just as an update, I went and saw my primary doctor and she was pissed at how the er visit went as well as urgent care, she told me the guy who came out and said they can't to fluids only in urgent care and I would need to go to the ER was wrong ( he intentionally lied to me so he would have 1 less patent) and she checked and he didn't even talk to the provider working before telling me that, then wrote me down as a LWOS (left with out being seen) she was very unhappy with both situations, she is also filing a report because she feels that either/both of those situations could have ended alot worse, especially had I not already been ontop of trying to correct the dehydration.

She also gave me 2 bags of Fluid, and has me coming back in later this week, as well as the beginning of next week for more. She said it might be more then I need but she'd rather that then not enough and absolutely doesn't want me to be treated that way again.

  19. Incase anyone els is needing some extra hydration I was told to get an electrolyte powder called liquid iv, witch is a little speedy, well they all are.... but I was given a few packs of drop drop hydration relief and I ordered some from Amazon today, they are pretty reasonably priced considering and they have a ton of flavors including my mom found a pack of apple cider flavored ones lol Screenshot_20221003_211822.jpg

  20. I did talk to my friend and sister who both work with this hospital and they game me the name of the administrator of doctors for this hospital, i actually know him that's how small of a town. Just didnt know that was his job lol... so I'm going to talk to him tomorrow about the ER doctor, I guess I'm not even in the top 10 of people to have an issue with him in the last 2 months alone. And alot of people are hoping to get his contract here cut short because he doesn't seem to help people unless he believes the person needs help

  21. I understand and that is probably the reason for that dr's terrible behavior but you werent asking for drugs you needed fluids! For him to refused fluids is just asinine!! I hate drs like that!! He was just very unprofessional. He really should be reported.
Unfortunately I live in a fairly small community and the more waves I make the less ill be able to get treatment for different things
