    Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?

Apryl, I can definitly feel you on the best friend thing. By best friend and I are/were both obese. Together in college we were able to lose weight (her-80lbs and me 100lbs.) Once that was over I gained all my weight back and then some and she been able to yo-yo around close to her goal weight for a couple years. She is not at all supportive of my decision since she feel that I threw in my towel out of pure frustration. Though we were both mordidly obese, I have always been much bigger than her and have tried to explain how I came about my decision. But she just wouldn't hear it. So one day I just finally said to her that as my best friend though she may not agree with my decision she at least needs to be supportive cause I would do the same for her. After giving it some thought she did apologive for her negative comments and though she still does not support it is more open to at least discussing it and will be there for me.

  9. I was just told by my surgeon's office that my insurance would not cover my surgery with my current surgeon :wink2: (even after they said they would with my out-of-network benefits.) I have been following up with my current surgeons for 2 months now. Can anyone reccommend a great surgeron in the north Jersey or manhattan area :confused2:???? I also would like some information on the hospital where they perform. Any reccommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :cursing:!

    Tell us about yourself

Good evening ladies:smile2:, I figured I have been on here long enough without formally introducing myself. So here it goes...My name is Sarah and I from northern NJ (across the water from manhattan.) I am single (have been for a while) with no kids. I am an analyst for a financial investment firm but I've want to go to school for my post-graduate degree. I actually considered lap band about a year ago. However when I announced my plan to my family and friends they were completely against it (especially my mom, sister and best friend) :sneaky:. They claimed that I would be throwing in the towel and were amazed that I would consider WLS (hello! been fat my whole life!) It wasn't until I had officially gained back ALL of the 100 lbs I had worked sooooooo hard to loose my senior year in college that I said "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!" I have been morbidly obese MY WHOLE LIFE. And in college became SUPER morbidly obese! (who comes up with these names anyway???) So now I have resolved and dedicated myself to this 1000% (no matter who is against it.) So much so that I have been unable to focus on my LSAT studies (and I really need a great score.) Which is why I would like to get banded asap. But unfortunately I've had to switch surgeons for insurance purposes. Which landed me at the NYU WLS program. I've heard great things about all the dr.'s just seems to take forever to get an appointment (further prolonging my process :cursing: ). But I've learned to be patient and get things done the right which is why I'm trying to get as much information as possible. So I can avoid trial and error periods post-banding. I've always loved to exercise so I know I won't have a problem sticking to that. Dieting has always been my biggest obstacle (I'm natuarally drawn to junk food in excess.) But I've been preparing myself for life after the band by cooking healthy meals and making better food choices.. I really love this site, especially this forum! I'm even on here at work ya'll. LOL! Its been very helpful throughout all my stages so far. My surgery date with my previous surgeon was 9/17. So hopefully I can at least get to keep my "September Samauri" banner. I'll find out on 9/8 and let you all know. Wish me luck and good luck to you all as well!

    Hey all NYU Bandsters!

Hi all, Ended going to NYU after spending 2 months with a surgeon that my insurance company told me that would not cover. I choice that surgeon because he was referred by my doctor and was very close to work and home. But I had attended an NYU semiar working with my previous surgeon and like Dr. Kurian's presentation. Yesterday was my first day in the office (I agree it is small and crowded). The nutritionist did seem pretty distant and that was actually my first impression of her (maybe she's new). But unfortunately, I can't consult with Dr. Kurian until Dr. Kurian until 9/8 (further delaying my process) but from what hear she's worth the wait. For anyone else that had Dr. Kurian...how long did you have to wait before scheduling surgery? What type of test did you have to get done? Thanks and Good luck to all!

    JPMorgan Chase employees

I was afraid at first too. But you should call them to make sure you don't waste any precious time and/or money. Your surgeron's insurance coordinator should be familiar with your insurance and should be able to give you more information. Good luck!

    It is done

Sorry to hear about the pain. But glad to hear everything went well. I'm sure you'll be fine!

    JPMorgan Chase employees

Hi, I am a JPMC employee and also hope to be banded soon. I actually came from Bear, Stearns but I know JPMC offers United Health Care as welll. I have United Healthcare and so far they have requested a 6 month supervised diet. I had to switch surgeons last minute cause they would not cover an out-of-network surgeon. How is the process going for you? What office are you in (if you don't mind me asking)?
  17. I'd be interested in reading about it. Can you guys tell me where you found the info???
  18. Hello Ladies, I have yet to be banded (Sept 17th is my date!:smile2:) I was just wondering if anyone had any good complete mutivitamins they were taking that were chewable or liquid :confused2:? I've been shopping and haven't really found much. Also, I've heard that in the days after surgey it becomes very difficult to get that reccommended daily Protein amount (60 grms for women) from things like meats and cheese. I've heard of protein bullets which have about 46 grms of Proteins per bullet. But these are somewhat expensive (about $90-$100 for a month supply.) Anyone having much luck with anything else:confused2:?

Help! I need a new surgeon asap!

Thanks guys! I narrowed it down to Dr. Kurian with NYU med. I can't see her for another 2 weeks since she's so booked but I'm hoping I can still have my surgery next month.

    Just Moving in...

Hi Bandsters! I just joinned today! I've been doing alot of research on the procedure and after struggling with it I decided last month to get the band :crying:. This is against the wishes of my mom, best friend and rest of my family. But I know whats best for me. Soooo...I've completed all my tests and evals and am now waiting for insurance approval. Anyone have any exerperience with getting approval from United Healthcare? I didn't go through a six month WL program but had alot of Dr's recommendations and paperwork so I'm hoping for the best since I have a WHOLE lot of weight to loose! P.S. I'm exited to be here!
  21. Hey, I just got my date...Sept 17th! Anyone getting banded next month?
