  1. I have a history of Migraines and also get a lot of headaches that don't turn into migraines. Because of this, I take a lot of pain meds. I'm not concerned about my Migraine medicine because it is quite small and I also can take an injectable form but for just headaches? What can I take besides Tylenol? I know some people talk about taking liquid Tylenol, esp. right after surgery. I think I'll go through a bottle at a time if that's all I can take!

Anyone else have this problem? How have you handled it? I asked the surgeon about it but he wasn't terribly helpful. I may ask one of the clinic doctors for suggestions.

  2. I'm not banded yet but I think this would be very band friendly. We eat it several times during the fall/winter. I cut way back on the bread crumbs (need some or else it will be soupy), use egg beaters, and sometimes use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.

    Zucchini Lasagna

    Yield

    10 servings

    Ingredients

    • 4 cups Water
    • 6 cups sliced zucchini (about 3 medium)
    • 1 pound ground round
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 2 cups low-fat spaghetti sauce (such as Muir Glen Organic)
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 2 cups fat-free cottage cheese
    • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • Cooking spray
    • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs, divided
    • 1 3/4 cups (3 1/2 ounces) preshredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided

    Preparation

    Preheat oven to 350°.

Bring the Water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add zucchini; cook 3 minutes or until crisp-tender. Drain and cool.

Place the beef and garlic in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until browned, stirring to crumble. Stir in the spaghetti sauce, salt, basil, and oregano; cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat.

Combine the cottage cheese, parsley, and eggs in a medium bowl.

Arrange zucchini slices in a shallow 3-quart casserole coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle the zucchini with half of the breadcrumbs. Spread half of cottage cheese mixture over breadcrumbs; cover with half of the meat mixture and 1 cup mozzarella. Repeat the layers with the remaining breadcrumbs, cottage cheese mixture, and meat mixture; reserve the remaining mozzarella. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.

Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella, and bake an additional 5 minutes or until cheese melts.

  3. I've found so many recipes on this site just by hunting through the Nutritions forum. I've decided to create a spiral-bound notebook full of recipes to use. When I find something I like on here, I copy/paste it into a Word document, print it out and put it in my notebook. It will be a great way to stay organized with all these recipes I see.

That's a really good idea! I always forget to print them, though, so I am going to use my delicious account to organize them online. I wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't said something!

  4. I'm Julie. My husband and I have been together for 7 years this month and married almost 4. We have a 2 year old son.

I have always been overweight. I have lost and gained more than I can count. Name a diet and I have done it. I lost almost 50 lbs. 3 years ago when I hit 280 (my highest) but became pregnant 3 months later. I lost the pregnancy weight but, as soon as I stopped breastfeeding, I gained 25 lbs! I've been mulling over the band for 3 years and have finally decided that this is the right time. I don't want my son to grow up to be like me!

  5. YAY congrats! That's just two days before Turkey Day! Boy, that should be fun, haha. My surgery is Nov. 5th, so I'll have 3 weeks to recover before I'm faced with preparing Thanksgiving dinner for about 10 people!

Well, we're having everyone over the weekend before for my son's birthday so I'm thinking of doing Thanksgiving then. Otherwise, it will be just the three of us on the actual holiday so that's not a big deal.

  6. I just received the call! My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 25 at 10:30

They could have scheduled me a week earlier but in the afternoon. We have a 2 year old so I pushed for an AM appointment. I wanted DH to have time to be with me after surgery before picking up our son from daycare. This is the perfect time for me!! It's 2 days after DS's birthday, 2 days before a holiday so I have a lot of time off and it's during a mini-break for my MBA program.

I'm so excited!!! I look forward to getting to know all of the other "Notorious Novembers" :w00t:

  7. I'm in Lansing! I am still jumping though the insurance hoops but I will be having my band done at Sparrow, hopefully in Nov. :) I didn't realize that there was an option besides Sparrow and Ingham. May I ask why you chose that one over the two hospital programs? Just curious :)
