    trouble with pressure

Oh yeah, I actually posted about this 3 days ago. I was banded on Monday and I since the majority of the pain has subsided already, I noticed that the most uncomfortable position to be in is laying down. Strange I thought. As the days go by, you will feel less and less pressure hopefully, and soon, if not already you should be able to lay on your side. I am not able to lay on my stomach yet, hope thats coming up. -Alex
  2. Was just banded on 9/8 and was wondering why I am mostly only feeling pain when I lay down. Also, will I ever be able to sleep on my side or stomach again? Since the operation, I ahve only been able to sleep on my back, not my favorite position.
  3. I have been reading alot about foods that you dont eat after banding and just wanted to hear it from those of you that are a few months out already and eating solids. I was just banded this week, and will stick to the diet but was wondering if there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Can you eat steak? pasta? salads? sandwiches? rice? mexican? bread? I know the key will be moderation for the rest of my life, but can you eat your 3 or 4 ounces of the foods mentioned above? How is it when you go out to a mexican restaurant with friends? What about a steakhouse, how do they handle you? How do you handle ordering foods at a restaurant? Do they let you share a plate? Tell me your stories.
  4. I was just banded on 9/8, during my pre-op diet, I went from 322lbs to 297lbs. It is totally possible. That just shows how much we were regularly consuming and how much our body is actually capable of burning if we give it a chance.

    Where is your port located?

I was just banded on 9/8 and I think my port is above my bellybutton. That seems to be my biggest incision.
  6. Personally, I think they make more $ with the bypass. With the band, they generally charge less and still have to buy the band to be used. With the bypass, there is no products to buy and they charge more because the surgery is longer and more difficult.
  7. You will definately be in my prayers. Good luck to you.:tt2:

    Glucerna Shakes????

I am starting to think the dr.'s make money off of these shakes. Mine said I had to have a specific shake, which of course he sold in his office. I have been on the shake diet now since last Sunday, and today, 6 days away from surgery, I had a piece of chicken breast. it was small, about 3 ounces and that was all. I was feeling weak today and thought I would puke if I had another shake. I do not intend on doing that again but after 8 days of shakes only, I really needed something with substance, especially if I am not able to stomach another shake.

    Lap-Band Statistics & Sleep Apnea

When I went to my seminar, the doctor touched upon this and said that altough it is still not certain, it appears the gastric bypass could almost instantly cure diabetes due to the rerouting of the intestines and where certain chemicals are made in the intestines. I am no doctor and did not really pay much attention to this as I dont have diabetes and wont be doing bypass. But again, it had to do with certain chemicals or hormones that are genereated in certain areas of your intestines, and by rerouting them it does something for diabetes. My doctor even mentioned cases where people enter the hospital on diabetes medication and leave off of it. Definately something worht looking into for those woth diabetes. Hope my half-ass, so not scientific answer helps.

    pre op diet blue's

I am on day 8 of my 2 week liquid diet. Its hard, you will not get anyone to deny that. Many thoughts enter your head, my most common one is why did my doctor subject me to this. As you read througout this site, many people were not put on liquid diets. Regardless, ours did and its for the best. If the surgery is a little easier for the surgeon, then its got to be much better for us. Hang in there, I find not being home works best for me. Bored at home is what made me eat more. Go out, see friends or family or go catch a movie. Step away from the refridgerator!

    BAD BREATH? lol

I am finishing up day 7 on my liquid diet and yes, the breath stinks. Some sugar free gum should do the trick. I am down to 307lbs, down from 322lbs. in 7 days.
  12. Went to my doctor last week, after a year of hesitating and thinking about it, finally got my letter from my PCP and took it to surgeon. Was given op date of September 9. Just did upper GI last Saturday, psychologist and nutritionist next monday. After that all papers go to insurance for approval. IS it me or is this all moving too fast. I hope I am not disappointed and have my surgery pushed back. In two weeks start pre-op diet of 5 shakes per day, thats it thats all. Have to lose 5% body weight to shrink the liver. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, excited but cautious as of now regarding surgery.:wink2:

    Port pain

wow, why would they deny a second surgery if the port is detatched? Is it considered a cosmetic surgery? Does the lapband system still work of the port is detatched? For those of you that have been banded already, how soon afterwards can you start playing sports like basketball or softball after the surgery?

    2009 Federal Employees Health Insurance

Federal employee in Florida, will be having surgery in 1 week, covered by insurance. I have Humana. From what I hear though, most will require some sort of diet history letter. Call a surgeons office, and ask them which insurance has the easiest requirements. They work with them all the timw and know which ones are less of a pain in the butt.
  15. September 8 banding. Currently on shake diet. Have lost 13lbs. in a week doing this. Makes me realize how much I actually used eat.

    September 9 banding

My surgery date was pushed up, to September 8. I am currently on the shake (liver shrinking) diet and have been for 6 days. No cheating yet but starving and really missing food. So far I have dropped from 322lbs. to 309lbs in these 6 days. Maybe I can be in the two hundreds for surgery. Lets see!
  17. I am currently on the shake only diet as well. (I have really wanted to cheat by the way). Getting banded on 9/8. I am drinking the Optifast 800 shakes. They are not bad, especially the vanilla. They are expensive though IMO. I paid $250 for a two week supply. But they arent that bad. Good luck.

    Greetings

I too am getting banded on 9/8/08. I have been on the shake diet, my Dr. says I need to have 5 a day and nothing else. No food whatsoever. (I like your doctor better, at least you can eat fruit and meat). I am taking optifast 800. I have yet to be able to drink more than 4 a day. I have my chest xray tommorow, my bloodwork this morning and on Thursday I see my Primary Dr. for clearance. Then Friday I weigh in, and Monday is the big day.

    Humana anyone

I was scheduled for my surgery prior to getting labs, psych and nutrionist. I have since completed all of these, I am waiting for the psych to get to the surgeon. I was scheduled for my suergery for Sept. 9, 2008. This was basically 4 weeks from my appointment to my surgery. I go for my ekg and final lab work 5 business days before my surgery and start my 2 week shake diet this Sunday. I asked my surgeons office if we are pushing it by scheduling so close and they said that Humana regualrly approves easily and within 3 or 4 days. I guess its that part of me does not want to start the shake diet to then be denied, delayed and have to prolong my time on the shake diet. Anyone with Humana experience?

You have lost that much weight without the surgery? Thats awesome. Did your doctor put you on a diet so far out or are you doing it on your own?
