Newly Banded: How quickly do you drink?
skyeblu79 replied to skyeblu79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the post...Now I am wondering am I thinking too much. Initially I was taking a sip every 5 minutes or so, then I realized that I could drink more quickly. I have been drinking a lot more than 1 ounce @ a time. I don't recall seeing any specifications as to how much to drink @ one time. I am so busy trying to get in my Protein amount, that I really haven't paid attention. -
Newly Banded: How quickly do you drink?
skyeblu79 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been drinking mostly with a spoon. I have been using the spoon in order to not drink too fast. Sometmes I gurgle a little or burp. I haven't had any pain or anything. I don't know what I am expecting to happen. I am only drinking liquids since just had surgery on 2/20. Do you pause between sips or spoonfuls. I have been taking a quick break....Is this necessary. Appreciate any advice, Thanks!! -

Good to hear. Everyone there was very nice too. One thing I didn't really think about until after I had surgery was requesting a lower floor or a handicapped room. That might be helpful. -

I was banded on 2/20. I think I do have some restriction from surgery (swelling, etc.). I haven't really been hungry. I have to force myself to drink something. Thursday I woke up a little hungry and had a little broth, then didn't get hungry again all day. -

If anyone wants to know, I stayed @ the Embassy Denver-Aurora on Havana. It was less than 10 minutes from the office. The room came w/a small refrigerator and microwave. The location seemed to be really safe and there's a Target and some other stuff @ the exit. -
Some Questions about Sleep After Banding
skyeblu79 replied to Fenton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really didn't have any problems. I used a lot of pillows and laid on my back for the first 3 days. Last night I was able to sleep on my right side. -
Liquid Diet State Pre-Op, When Was YOUR Last Drink?

I had to do a South Beach type diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery, so I didn't have any within the last 2 weeks. -

Hi Lap Dancer, I got banded on Tuesday and I am planning on going back on Monday. By yesterday I felt well enough to get out. We even went a casino and walked around. Today, I had to do a lot of walking at the airport and Target... I feel well enough to go back to work, but I really don't want to. I am still feeling really tired. I might wait a few more days just b/c. I work a desk job and I feel like I could go to work on Monday. I guess I will see how I will feel by Monday. -

Mark- Thanks, I have finally started feeling kind of hungry today. Lap Dancer- Thanks, I think you would really like Dr. K. The entire staff was really nice. He was eager to answer any questions. Kirsten, I will keep using the Protein powder then. I have just been adding some to my broth and juice since last night. For some reason I have been feeling really out of breathe. I talked to Dr. K about it today. He checked my legs for blood clots, my oxygen level, and my lungs. I thought he was very thorough. He gave me some breathing exercises to do. He told me to call by 4:00 if I wasn't feeling any better. -

Hi all, thanks!!! I still feel pretty good, just so tired. Yesterday I got some plain Protein powder that I am adding to my liquids. This morning I was trying to walk around the suite some and I just feel really out of breathe. At least I get to see Dr. K though and ask him about this. Did any of yal experience? Is it normal? Oh, and today was the first morning that I woke up hungry. I am sipping some Water and sf Jello until I can get some broth. Oh, and my stomach is hurting a bit. I wonder if it is the whey Protein Powder. I may have to take it back and get another type. Any suggestions on this. What did yal do to make sure you got protein in during this clear liquid stage? Thanks!! -

Hi Kirsten, It was really great meeting you too. You and your sister were so nice!! We found the hotel really easily. It's not far @ all. Glad to hear you have good restriction, yea!!! The surgery went really well. I don't even feel like I have had surgery. I am only sore when I am getting up in a sitting position or when I cough. I don't feel to bad sitting down or standing up. The office was really busy Monday. Everyone there was so nice. Dr. K said that my surgery was a lot easier than he thought. He said that he was suprised that my insides were so small for my size. Surgery took 1 hr and 5 minutes. And I am going back on Thursday to see him one last time before I leave. I have no appetite, but I have been trying to drink plenty of fluids. I hope everyone is doing well!!! -
Hello, I just wanted to check in. I was banded yesterday. Surgery went very well. I am basically in no pain. I am just sore when sitting up. I have no problem getting up or anything. I do feel a little weak when I try to walk more than a 4-5 steps. I am going to try to walk around more today. Right now I am on Clear Liquids and have no appetite. I had surgery @ 9:00am yesterday and I wanted a little broth around 6. I drunk maybe a third of the can. I am trying to drink plenty of liquids. I have drank diet green tea, Water, aquafina water and a little apple juice this morning. I am still shocked @ how good I feel.

Congratulations!!!:clap2:

Hi Kelly, my surgery is also today. I keep thinking I don't feel nervous, but then I notice that I have been up almost every hour to 1 1/2 hours. I can't really sleep. So, I know how you feel. For me it still just doesn't seem real. Maybe it will when I actually get to the hospital. My surgery starts @ 9:00am and I will be there by 7:30am. Good luck Kelly and everyone else getting banded today.

On the list the nutritionist gave me it lists those as clear liquids. Some examples of my full liquids are non-fat milk, non-fat smoothies, low-fat pudding, low-fat custard, cooked refined cereals, strained creamed soups, etc.

Cool, thanks Travelgirl!!

Hi, Lauriann..I am still trying to locate a reasonable dr in NC (w/in 3 hours). I will post if I find out anything. Please let me know if you do. I live in Durham, but I would be willing to travel.
-
Thanks travelgirl..I guess I will save the applesauce until I get back. On my list for full liquids are stuff like low-fat pudding, custard, cooked refined cereals etc. For the pre-made stuff is it usually safe as is or do you have to add liquid to it.
-
I am so glad you guys are posting information. It is really helping. I have less than 2 days to go now. I leave tomorrow morning for Denver. I picked up some applesauce. Would that be considered a full liquid?

Obama...first african american...would you vote for him?????
skyeblu79 replied to shauntil6266's topic in Rants & Raves
I guess it depends on what school you go to. I majored in History with a minor in education and then went back to complete licensure. It had nothing to do with it being easier. A lot of the people in my classes, like me had already graduated and later decided they wanted to teach. It was nothing easy about our education program. We had to take tests (Praxis 1&2) just to get in the department. It took a lot of time and dedication. You had to spend a lot of time in the schools before student teaching and of course during. I know all people don't go in teaching for the right reason. I don't think most people go in for a paycheck or b/c they think it's an easy major. And the same people that people griping on teachers got where they are b/c of some teacher/teachers. -
Clear Liquid diet choices???

My nutritionist said I could have apple and grape juice. She basically said any juice, but orange. I also like aquafina flavored water. -
