  1. No, after I was denied I went to my family doctor and she recommended this dietian since she is located in Kokomo. I was trying to avoid the long drive to Indy. As long as I lose at least a pound a week she should be happy, but there is no love loss...LOL She was very rude during my second visit because I didn't loose.. just maintained. I'm pretty sure the insurance just wants to see that I tried! The insurance rep I spoke to said it didn't matter if I lost any weight or gained for that matter, just attending the 6 months is all they required.

The one week liquid diet.. that is after surgery? Right?

  2. I'm in the same boat. I first went to St. Francis Weight loss center in April to start this journey. I completed everything they required (minus the pre-op support group meetings which I am attending now.) The center sent my information to my insurance provider (BCBS-Chrysler) and they denied the surgery due to 6 months of supervised dieting. WW didn't count, I needed to see a dietian. So now, I've been to this dietian for 3 months and have three to go. I agree, it is a waste. I have to pay for each visit along with all my appointments at the center. My dietian has never had a weight issue and is convinced I don't need the surgury, I can do it myself..GRR.. Yeah, I've lost 14 lbs in 3 month and will probably continue to loose some more, but keeping it off is my problem, she even had the nerve to tell me if I failed to drop some pounds she would inform my insurance carrier that I wasn't committed.. :crying:

My family physician has now filled out a paper for me explain my need for the surgery. I don't have any health problems regarding my weight but I have a twin brother who has diabetes and high blood pressure! He had gastric bypass 2 years ago and no longer needs any meds!! I am hoping to avoid all these problems! If I am denied again, I'll be livid. But the center seems to think I should have no problem being approved after the 6 months dieting.. Time will tell.

  3. Thanks Short1! I'm so glad you responded!!

I'm like a sponge right now, so any information you can give me is so helpful. I'm attending my first pre-op support meeting next week. My guess, If I'm approved it will be towards November. Dr. Clarks office submitted all my information to the insurance earlier this spring and I was denied because my insurance reguires 6 months supervised dieting. This is my third month of seeing a dietian and already I've lost 13lbs. The problem is.. this dietian thinks that I can loose everything and not have the surgery! Yeah, I might be able to loose it, but keeping it off is the problem. She also insist that if I fail to lose weight while seeing her, she will write her report to the insurance saying I'm not "committed" My guess, she has never had a weight issue. It's frustrating. I told her she is to send the report to Dr.Clarks office not the insurance..

Does Dr. Clark require liquid dieting before the surgery? I'll take any info you have.. :crying:

    Thanks again.

  4. Hello fellow Hoosiers!! Go Colts!

Has anyone had their surgery at St Francis Weight loss center? In Indianapolis? I have went through everything need for the surgery at the center, but my insurance needs 6 months supervised dieting. GRRRR. So I have three months down and three to go.

  5. Hello,

I have a twin brother who had the gastric bypass about 2 years ago. Yes, he has put on some of his weight back on, but not alot. My fear, over the years, he will continue to gain weight.

I have chose the lapband for myself. Less risk and easy to manage. I scar easily and tend to get adhesions, so the gastric bypass surgery would be way to risky for me.

    Good luck!!

  6. I have read some of the threads, man, this place is huge!! lol

I'm so excited for everyone one of you. Reading you post is so uplifting for me, I am hoping to have the banding surgery later this year, if my insurance will finally approve it. I have to go through 6 months of supervised weight loss with a dietian. Three months down and three more to go. One thing is for sure, this site will be a huge help for me. I'm the type that has to see what others are going through before I make the leap, so to speak.. Call me chicken! LOL

Once again, this site looks amazing and I'm so happy for all of you for offering support to each other. What a blessing. Good luck to everyone on you journey to a happy and healthier you!
