  1. I have got to say having online (VR - virtual reality) support has been very very helpful and I have learned more from the online support groups and this site then I have in physical (RL - real life) support. But I am a firm believer that RL support is just as important as VR. The thing to remember is RL support doesn't only come from a support group of others going through this but it also comes friends, family, and others around you. Talk to them to inform them of what your experiencing and going through helps you be more aware of you and your body. As for going to an AA style meeting and saying, "Hi, my names is Peter and I am fat. I was banded just over 2 months ago now." and everyone responding "Hi Peter. Welcome" just isn't my bag of chips for this. LOL

The key about support is do what is best for you. You are the only person who truly knows what is working best for you and if you are starting to slip or cheat stop doing what ever it is your doing and change. If that is adding pysical support groups then do it. If it's getting onto this website chatting with others and blogging to your hearts content then do it. Just do what ever it is neccessary to get yourself to living a healthier and happier life!

    Hi,

Yesterday was my one month anniversary from banding. My weight today was 243. (When I went to the hospital for my surgery, I was 257. So in 4 weeks and one day I've lost 14 pounds!

    Yeah!

    :thumbup::lol::thumbup::w00t::cool2::eek::thumbup::lol:

Ok all your weights have been added! Also yes Erica let's start stating our goals for February! Congrats all on your weight loss and progress for a better future! Great way to start off 2009!!!

  4. Just checking in with my total for the month. I lost one more pound this week for a total of 6 lbs. for the month. My goal was 10, but I set that when I was supposed to get a fill mid-month. I'm good with 6 lbs. I'll stick with a 10-lb. goal for February since I SHOULD be getting my first fill 2/12 and am hoping that will make a difference. Six lbs. is good, but guess what's great??

    I hit "onderland" today. Woohoo!

BTW - Where is this spreadsheet? Is it going to be posted? I think the month's biggest loser should get to put a "January 2009 How Low Can You Go Challenge Winner" ribbon in their signature.

final weigh in 288! not what I wanted but I'll take it!
I weight this moring was 206!!!!!

    WOOT

I have another 3 lbs this week. I also had my first fill on 1/24. I think I am at a nice steady pace now. Hope it stays that way. Laurel

Ok I got all you ladies update on the spreadsheet. Cute idea for the goal award Veronica but I have to say I think we are all winners! We all have lost weight and are working towards living healthier and happier lives! But if everyone wants some sort of award for participating in the challenge that could be done too

Also if you look at my signature you will see the howlow.png image. Click on that and it will take you to the spreadsheet.

  5. Well I have dropped another 6 lbs and working hard at the many more I need to lose!

  6. I have been a big fan of the Biggest Loser this season but I have to point out that they are living in a controlled environment with personal trainers and a controlled eating regiment. With that also said they are working them hard and for several hours a day not just an hour or two a day. Which will make it very hard once they are off the ranch and having to go back to their real lives again. Not so much physically but mentally.

For me I started out with walking. It was a short distance when I started my walking back in October (6 weeks pre-op) and am up to about a mile and a half in 30 minutes time. I walk 6 nights a week and am getting in an additional two times a week at lunch time when at work. I wanted to add in work out videos to help my cardio but it just hasn't worked out yet. When I am ready I will be heading to that next level. For now I am still losing weight and feeling better all the time.

You have to remember every person is different and we are all at different fitness levels. You just have to work at it at what works best for you. Not only physically but what you can and will do with your life style. Best of luck to you!

  7. Thanks all for the advice. I had a hard time believing them when they told me that oatmeal was not good for me at this time. They mentioned about having that later on. Oh and the rant is perfectly fine. We all do that from time to time! LOL

I think what I need to do like already mentioned is mix my breakfast options up some more. Maybe oatmeal one day with yogurt the next eggs with a cheese and meat one day and even throw in some cottage cheese with a fruit or vegetable another. More of a balance between the days instead of the heavy oatmeal that I have been doing pretty much daily.

I do agree that I think a lot of the weight loss centers do tend to lean towards fad diets and what they feel is best for the "now". One thing I have worked hard on was changing my whole eating lifestyle to be a healthier lifestyle. Pretty much cutting out most of the breads and pastas and eating more vegetables along with good choice on meats and lower fat products instead of the fulls fats that I was eating before. I know that before I was eating lots of carbs, high fats, and extreme quantities. It has worked very well for me to change my eating lifestyle rather then jump on a fad diet program. Like so many have it's about making the band work for you and making better choices in your life.

  8. Hey Rose and everyone else,

My first fill went very well. I went to U.S. Bariatrics in Ft. Lauderdale. It's only about 50 minutes from were I live so I gotta say that's closer then I know some have to travel. I got 2 CC's and the doctor confirmed that that's all I have at this time. I went ahead and scheduled for another fill for April 6th. I have to say that I am sure that I will need another fill by then too.

Thanks so much for the congrats on the weight loss. It is something we all should be proud of. A pound here and a pound there does add up. Remember to make the band work for you. Like so many before have proven that this can be done and will be done!

  9. So today I went to U.S. Bariatrics in Ft. Lauderdale for my first fill. While I was there one thing they talked to me about was my diet, which I know I haven't been the best about, but they threw me a real curve ball in something I thought I was doing good with. No More oatmeal for breakfast! Ok so that really threw me off. They said that the oatmeal tends to turn into bad carbs so for now they don't want me eating anymore oatmeal in the mornings for Breakfast. Now here comes the real dilemma for me. I have been having oatmeal almost exclusive during the week for breakfast and I do get sick of eggs quickly. So now what do I have????

So far all I can think of is the following:

    • cottage cheese with some fruit
    • scrambled egg with cheese and ham
    • yogurt with some fruit

Any ideas? Please help if you have some!!!

  10. Yeah really the key is feeling full longer and feeling fuller on less. Remember this is just a tool and we do have to have some will power to make this work for us.

I got my first fill today and went ahead and scheduled my next appointment for about 2 months from today. I only got 2CC today but we will see how that works.

  11. Dropped a few more pounds heaidng to break that 400 mark!!!

  12. Congrats Pete. I lost 3 lbs this week. I worked hard for every pound. Laurel
So far, I lost 2 lbs. the first week, 1 lb. last week, and 2 lbs. this week - for a grand total of 5 this month.

Not great, but I'm certainly pleased. I went to the doctor on the 19th, which was supposed to be for my first fill, but they apparently scheduled me too early. They said they like to wait 8 weeks. I'll get my first fill February 12th. I'm looking forward to it. I get fairly hungry.

    Congrats ladies on the weightloss!
