  1. You can still be very proud of your loss. Remember it's not what we lose each week or even month. It's the end goal that really matters. It's going to take time. We didn't put this weight on in a day, month, or even a year. And so it's going to take time to get it back off. Most people need several fills before they reach their sweet spots. Not very many people hit it after just one or two fills. Remember it's not the fact that you still get hungry it's the fact that you do have restriction and that you work the band to the best of your program. Hungry is a sign to us that tells us that our body needs nutrition. Even after you hit that sweet spot on your fills you should still feel hunger 4 to 5 hours after you eat. But you shouldn't be able to eat as much too. So work your program and thus with time the weight will come off!

Calling "hubbies of all Lapbandies" our Forum

Heya! I think it's great your taking a big step in getting to know what to expect when your wife gets this surgery done. It's certainly a big step in her life and yours as well. I am a hubby but I am the one that got banded but I have to say my wife has been extremely supportive and has been there with me all through the process. The best thing you can do is listen to your wife for her needs and wants. When she talks about exercising do it with her. When she talks about eating healthier do it with her. Not that you have to do the liquid diets or that you have to eat as little as she will but that you eat healthy with her. That you be right there to support her all the way. Don't look at this as something that she is doing on her own but that it's something that the two of you are doing together. Sure she is the one getting the surgery which I am sure will go very well but that you two are working together to live and healthier and happier life together. Best of luck to her and to you!

    5 week update photos

WTG - You two are doing great! I showed your pictures to my wife and we both can see noticeable progress in both of you! Congrats!
  7. Hey Everyone, Thanks for the words of encouragement. It is so great to come here and see everyone doing so well and know that I am getting right back on track. Hannah - You are very welcome to join us! I put in your info on the spreadsheet. It's great to see how everyone is doing and share in our journey. One thing I have to remind myself of is this is a journey and there will be times that I won't do as well. This last week I also chalk some of my weight gain up to high stress at work. We had a huge deadline to meet by Friday and thus some of the highest stress for work in a long time. But those are only excuses. I did do very well with my walking and like FWWAB mentioned I had some great NSV's this past week. I got the spreadsheet up to date with everyone on here. Not sure if your wanting to join too JohnC. You would be welcomed! It is great when the Doc takes us off meds we have been and beating Diabetes is a huge step! Congrats!

Two Steps forward One Step Back

First off I gained 5 lbs this week. Not lost. Gained. Medications - Up until last Saturday I had been talking the following medications. Benicar - Blood pressure medication Antenolol - Blood pressure medication Furosemide - Heavy diuretic (water pill) Klor-con - Potassium pill (counter balance to the furosemide) It's great that I am able to go off these medications now and that my blood pressure is doing so well. My blood pressure reads on a continual basis to be in the middle of the normal blood pressure range. With my legs over the last week I have had a minuet amount of swelling not the measurable amount that I had in the past. I also have not worn the compression socks that I have so I will wear those over the next week and see if that makes a measurable difference. What I am not sure about is going off the Furosemide. I know that some of the weight I gained this week is water weight but I just don't know how much of that is. It's something I have to work through. Exercise - I have to say this has been a decent week for exercise. Of course walking every evening after work but also I have been good also in getting out at lunch time to walk. It feels great to know that I am pushing myself harder with this but I can tell that I still need more. I am going to have to add some additional exercises to my daily program to continue my weight loss. Food - I have made some bad food choices this week. There has been a couple of times that I snacked on stuff I shouldn't have and I know that I am eating more then I should. This has to change and is changing starting today. I can tell that I need a fill and I do have a scheduled fill on the 26th. I just wish it was sooner to help me with this hunger that I have been getting. I have to be strong once again and have the will to keep working at the weight loss. I am so close to breaking that 400 lbs mark and continue on down. Overall - Overall this week is a wash to me. Off medications and doing good with walking but bad food choices resulting in a weight gain. I have to really step it up more this next week. I have had a steady weight loss since the middle of October. In the middle of October I weighed 465 lbs and today I weigh 415 lbs. So yes that is a total of 50 lbs since then and since my highest weight in January of 2008 I have lost a total of 70 lbs but I have a lot more to go and need to keep focus on what it is I am doing. I guess this is my two steps forward and one step back week. Now get moving forward and don't let this discourage me is what I have to do now.

Did anyone get there lap band done in mexico?

I know I am coming into this conversation a bit late but I went to Dr. Pedro Kuri (Lap Band Surgery - Dr. Kuri & Associates) on Dec. 5, 2008 for my surgery. I cannot say enough about Dr. Kuri, his staff, and Hospital Angeles. They were top notch. I have posted several times on the forums about my experience in going to Mexico for surgery. I would recommend Dr. Kuri to anyone that is considering this surgery.

  13. This is a very mixed emotions week for me. Since the middle of October I have been on a continuous decline in weight until now. This week I gained 5 pounds. I know I made some bad food choices but I have also gone off medications too because I don't need them anymore. One of the medications I have been on for 2 solid years has been a heavy water pill so I know that some of the 5 pounds gain is water weight but can water weight be a full 5 pounds. Maybe 2 or 3 but I don't think 5. So any way not a good week for me.

One Month Later And Life Has Already Changed

Dec. 5th, 2008 was the day of my surgery. I knew at that time that things were changing for me and that I was going to live a healthier and happier life but even since then things have changed more then I had ever expect or thought would happen. Of course the normal things have changed like my diet and exercise but I have already seen a major change in what I can physically do. Before it would wear me out to walk over to the mail box in our apartment complex and back but now I walk so much further and even for enjoyment. When I can I even get out and walk twice a day just to push myself that much further. A huge change in my life that I did not expect this soon has been my blood pressure. I can hardly believe that it has dropped so much that I am no longer on any blood pressure medications when before I was taking two, Atenonol and Benicar. Now I feel better and really enjoy not having to pay for those perscriptions on a monthly basis and that I know I am living healthier then ever. Of course clothes have already become loose and some even to large for me to wear anymore. Can you believe it! After 30 days I am already down a size or two in clothes and still losing the weight. Another big change came as a surprise to me is my wife told me that with the way we are working to live a healthier life and that we are both losing weight she wants to try for another child this fall. This is very exciting to me. I've made no bones about it to her that I would like two children so that our 15 month old son doesn't grow up as an only child. Nothing wrong with having an only child but I still would like to have a brother or sister for him to grow up with. I just am amazed at how much better I feel both physically, mentally, and emotionally. Life seems so much brighter now and the future does look bright. I am very thankful for the Lap-Band and to everyone here who has been apart of my support in taking steps forward for a better life.

  19. Heya Red, Well the great thing is that you did lose those two pounds that you had gained and then the best thing is that you really did not gain anything. A loss is always great but even better is not going back up. Knowing that you have lost the weight and kept it off. That is the real challenge for all of us.

    Clothing Sizes?

Have any of you early December bandsters already seen a drop in clothing sizes? I have already noticed a big change in how some of my shirts that were tight before are loose now. My belts I am on my last notch and all of my pants I need a belt for now which I didn't need on most just a couple of months ago. There is a couple of pairs of pants that I have that I had stopped wearing and now I can wear them again. It feels great!!!
