Anyone near Frederick/Hagerstown?
tomatogirl replied to tomatogirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but their support group is NOT geared towards banders and I was extremely disappointed that the focus is all on bypassers. I was required to attend one meeting before surgery, so I went a couple of weeks ago. Here is the post I made about it when I got home : http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/blech-support-group-73457/ There is allegedly another support group in Rockville that I'm thinking of trying. It is supposed to ONLY be for banders. I got the information from my nutritionist. Institute for Genomic Research Time: 1st and 3rd Thurs of every month 6:30-8:30 Location: 9712 Medical Center Drive Rockville, MD POC: 301-251-4128 I'm planning on going next month- husband works night shift every other month and he's working night shift this month. I don't like bringing a toddler in tow where I don't know if he's welcome. :blushing: Anyway, great to speak with you! I'd love to have a local person to speak with about this. -
On my own for a week and going crazy with boredom and loneliness
tomatogirl replied to Lisa B's topic in The Lounge
LOL, I feel you. My husband works nights and my son went to my parents for 2 weeks a few months back. I was so lost and booooooorrrreeeedddd. And if T-Mobile didn't ban me, Verizon won't ban you. -
I don't have it, I have an IUD, but when I asked my doctor if I needed to have my IUD removed prior to surgery (since mine is the kind with hormones) he said that any implantable BC is fine to leave intact. You may still want to ask your surgeon.

Basically, they work the same. The differences are subtle and not really earth-shattering. The realize band is softer, the realize band's port is thinner, with a bigger port access area, the realize band is wider, the lap band comes in sizes... The realize band forum (1/4 of the way from the bottom of the forum homepage) may be more helpful. I'm being banded with the realize band in oct...because that's what my surgeon uses.

I went to Curves as my MIL's guest back in 2002 or 2003 (obvs pre-band). I felt it was a total waste of time. The workout, even in my completely unfit state, was incredibly low-impact and I didn't even break a sweat. If you have been working out regularly in the past few months (GJ on your weight loss, BTW), it's probably not going to be for you. If you want to try it, they usually offer a free trial or something if you just go in there and ask- if they try to make you join without a trial, just say, "oh, well, I don't want to spend money on something I haven't tried" and get up to walk out, I gaurantee you they will give you at least a few free visits.

Awesome 2.5 Calorie Popcicles
tomatogirl replied to sistasassy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love making juice popcicles! Thanks for the tip. -
I'm only 3 years older than you. My husband has been deployed, away at training, and just plain gone so much, that we only spent our first anniversary physically together 2 years ago (our 5th anniversary). I'm just grateful that he's here when he's here. :crying:

Tomorrow I see the nutritionist!
tomatogirl replied to dietpeach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As always YEMV, but when I saw mine, she gave me one of those cards to let me order off the kids menu, talked about the pre and post-op diet, and talked with me about how to get Protein into my diet (I don't eat a lot of meat). She gave me a ton of literature and was just generally helpful. Good luck! -
The band isn't a miracle, it's a tool. I'm sorry you feel this way.

Ketones smell and taste a bit sweet. however, if it is ketosis, it will clear up in a while, after everything balances out. -

Probably iron. Are you taking an iron-fortified vitamin in addition to your diet? -
hold up due to night shifts!!!
tomatogirl replied to neenz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
WTH!? My husband isn't a nurse, but he works night shift and that doesn't make any sense to me. if you have the self control not to snack all night, you'd be fine. -
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO! Yay for you!

I would like to slap my PCM right now
tomatogirl replied to tomatogirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to call before I go to my appt on Friday and see if they have the papers. If they don't, I will be checking out my records before my appt. -
I would like to slap my PCM right now
tomatogirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nearly a month ago, my surgeon's office faxed over 2 forms to my PCM. I know she got them because she showed them to me when she had a question for me. Today was my scheduling appt and they had still not received the forms back from my PCM. To make matters worse, they had even called her this morning and spoken with her and she said she hadn't gotten the forms, so they re-faxed them to her and she assured them that they would have the forms by my appt time this afternoon. She didn't. So they couldn't schedule my surgery (but they assure me I'll still have surgery in Oct). I go back Friday to try and schedule again and I'll be calling my PCM in the morning to make SURE she faxes in those forms. -

I loved mine until recently, now she has just turned into a complete cow. I suppose I can't call her tmw and threaten to sit on her to get her to fax forms, can I? -

I am not a birthday/anniversary person. At all. I feel cards are a waste of trees (unless it's someone very far away) and cakes are calories I don't need. I don't think birthdays are a big deal once you get to be an adult. We usually go out to eat, but sometimes not. If it was an honest mistake, and birthdays are a big deal in your household, then withholding cake, etc is just a bit rash. I mean, punishing him by doing what he did is the equivilant of me biting my son for biting me. Does that teach him not to bite? No. That teaches him it's OK to retaliate against people who hurt you. Try talking to him and explaining why what he did (or, didn't do, in this case) hurt you so much.

Congrats! I get mine Weds!

Call and ask what they want. Make them spell it out and then get it.

slim, if you shave it regularly and use a sharp razor, you'll avoid the bumps. Using shaving cream or a heavy conditioner helps, too. That coochie stuff everyone raves about it just a heavy conditioner.

When you click on the double thumbs up smilie, it posts this one instead: because they both have the same code in the database. Can you rename one? I like the double one better.

Go POAS (pee on a stick). Sounds like morning sickness to me.

What do you know about high triglycerides?
tomatogirl replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Another thing to think about: Thyroid is also something that has to be "caught" the right way. if you are sick, it can appear low when it's not; if you have had a lot of caffine (or caffine-like substances), it can appear normal when it is actually low.
