  1. So my Surgery was on June 29 which is a little over 2 months ago but I am noticing my appetite is increasing. I just finished a 6 oz sirloin steak. Is that concerning? Should I be eating up-to 4 oz of food at a time? Am I overeating? I’m still only eating upto 1000 calorie a day but for me to be able to finish a 6 oz steak was alarming. I know people can usually eat 6 oz of food maybe 10 months out but I’m able to eat it now. Any advice?

  2. I take the Benefiber that dissolves in liquid. Actually the Walmart generic version. 2tsp full in 8oz of whatever Water flavor I'm drinking 30 minutes after I eat, 3x a day. It dissolves great and I don't taste a thing. I don't like it in unflavored Water because my brain(silly brain) tells me it's thicker then regular water and I struggle. In flavored water(think crystal light) I have no issues. I have gone from a bm every 4-5 days to daily- maybe 2 days between bms. I also take 3 Ducolax stool softener a day. These 2 combined have helped me greatly.

Thank you so much for your guidance. I hope we don’t have to do this for the rest of our life? I’m this is just the first couple or three months or so? Thank you.

  3. I have problems with Constipation so I take Colace and Benefiber. It helps. I still only have a BM every 4-5 days. I'm thinking that may be my new norm because of how little I eat and I don't have any pain or discomfort.
If your pain doesn't ease by tomorrow I would call your doctor. You may have a hemorrhoid or tear that needs medical attention. Meanwhile I would be taking the max dose of Stool softener and Benefiber.

What kind of benefiber are you taking? If you are taking the gummies then how many are you doing daily? Thanks.

  4. Ok so I have been having bowel movement every 4-5 days and todays Bowel movement I had to put a lot of pressure and when I passed the stool, I had an excruciating pain in the rectal area. What should I do? Should I continue start taking the softener? When will this issue end? Is it because I’m taking Multi Vitamins with Iron? My doctor told me stop taking mult Vitamins with iron for. a week.

My Fiber intake bas been low because I’m avoiding grains and Beans. Should I start taking fiber supplements? I have equate Prebiotic fiber supplements I can take? Please help.

Pain is very bad. I just applied some preparation it’s not helping. Maybe I’ll try witch hazel wipes.

Did anyone go through this? Any suggestions??

    Thank you so much.

  5. Ok so this is my third week post op and even though my diet plan doesn’t mention anything about crackers I have been eating ritz reduced crackers and my stomach is taking them really well. I am not munching on them but I had about 4-5 crackers today. I don’t know if I should be guilty? Or is eating crackers normal at the soft food stage?

  6. How important is to chew the food properly? I am told to chew the food 20-30 times but it’s just too much for me. It’s like no taste after chewing it multiple times. Anyone here that doesn’t follow this rule post op? What are the post complications with not chewing enough?

  7. Most likely your nutritionist will recommend you get in the habit of eating Breakfast so that won’t be an issue anymore but if you choose not to or can’t for whatever reason. You most likely will be able to tolerate a multi without Iron on an empty stomach. For MOST people it’s the Iron that causes an issue. Pro Care health is a bariatric Vitamin that sells their one a day multi capsule with and without iron and with two different mg of iron. You will of course want to take the iron in a separate tablet at another time in the day with food. Nothing says you have to take your Vitamin in the morning though. You can take it with dinner if that’s easier for you. Or lunch. Just don’t forget that if you take Calcium as well it should be separated from the iron by like 2 hours.

Ok so took the vitamin chewable tablet with food and I was ok.

  8. Yeah, Multi Vitamins can cause nausea & vomiting. Iron is usually the culprit but a lot of the others can cause nausea too. I was nauseous every day & vomited a few times. It can be a juggling act because you need to take them with food but you’re hardly eating anything. I took mine after I ate & I split the dose - one in the am & one at night.
Can you split your tablet so you can spread out when you take it? Or try a capsule or patch. Someone posted about a liquid multi Vitamin recently. My Vitamin D & K, which I take in winter, comes in a mouth spray. Some find trying a different brand helps.

I didn’t take it with food. I took it first thing in the morning so an empty stomach. I also have the ones that are capsules. I’m too scared to them now lol.

  9. So I started taking soft foods (scrambled eggs, tilapia and ground beef)…I have been holding it all well along with medication pills. Today I started the Multivitamin chewable tablet and I threw up right after 5 minutes of taking. It was a big chewable tablet (Bariatric ultra Vitamin solo) and I chewed properly but it all came out.

Any guidance here on what should I do? Maybe I should start taking the capsules of multi vitamin because I have been taking other capsules (Tylenol, Antio biotics) just well.

  10. How are you doing now post op?

I’m good but I still lower right pain…I guess the incisions are still healing? I’m still not able to bend down fully. My surgery was on June 29. I have started pureed foods/soft foods as that is part of my week 2 plan. I had 2 oz of tilapia yesterday for lunch and dinner and experience any issues. Im just worried about the lower right stomach pain….I don’t know if it’s muscles or incisions but it hurts like crazy when I try to bend down. When will the pain go away?

    Thanks.

  11. Ok I’m really watching out what I eat and tomorrow is my first test as I’m going out with friends to eat. Obviously I’ll carry my Protein Shake with me but I had a question about coffee/tea..would it be ok to have the coffee/tea with caffeine with milk? This is would obviously be just one time but I don’t want to have any ramifications. Thanks!

  12. I’m only day 4 but I keep hearing different things from people on how much can you eventually eat? I guess this question is for people who have had the procedure for a year or so? I am being that I will never be able to have more than 4 oz in one time? Is that true? Does your intake goes up eventually? I’m sure people cheat here and there but what if you are invited to a buffet? How much can you eat without vomiting? I know I shouldn’t be thinking about these things I am just curious…

    Thank you,

  13. I’m not sure if it’s normal but some of my incisions are hurting like crazy that I can’t even sit on the toilet. Is this normal? I’m having pain medications like Tylenol and the prescription pain medicine only if needed. Is this normal? I got back from the hospital today so I’m only 2nd post op. When does these incision pains go away?

    Thank you all.

  14. funny thing is after my surgery while in the hospital i was given celebrex a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory up until my discharge. After discharge i was prescribed Hydrocodone for pain tho it was not needed since the main pain was from the air in your chest which pain medication does nothing. my surgeon said that NSAIDS were not to be taken for gastric bypass people. and for sleeve people on a very limited amounts.

When does this air from your stomach goes away. My surgery was yesterday. I am walking but I’m having a hard letting the air out. The only thing I am doing is burping.

  15. Went in at 8:00 am. Got done at 10 am. Heavy pains because of gas after but did a lot of walking and now burping many times, it’s much much better and now it’s 9 pm. All is good and excited for new life.
