  1. I work at a hospital and I am also five weeks pregnant. I talked to my OB today and she recommended that I get it. There is a lot of talk about it because it's new. The RN I work with in Occupational Health says that she did research on it and it's made the same way as the seasonal flu vaccine. We recommend all pregnant employees to ask their OB before getting the flu vaccine.

  2. So me and my beau were out of town a couple of weeks ago and I got really sick. I couldn't keep and liquids or food down. I was miserable! I finally made him take me to the ER. This was a small hospital and no one on staff knew much about the LB. They did a pregnancy test, blood work, and then a barium swallow. They discovered that nothing was going through my LB. My tummy was completley closed. The ER doc called my LB surgeon and he had to walk him through how to unfill my band. He poked me about 10 times before he was succesful. After 3 days of puking I finally kept a Sprite down. Yipee! Well, the pregnancy test came back negative so that was ruled out. We had no idea what happened why this happened all of a sudden. Last week I was really moody and decided something was up so I took another pregnancy test.....PREGNANT!! BINGO! That was what was going on all along it was just too early to tell. I am due in June 2010. My first appointment is Oct. 30th! CANT WAIT!!! :frown:

  3. I would approach it from the point of view that it's soley for your health. Don't tell them it's so that you can get skinny. Tell them you want to do it for health reasons. This will then leave room for you to say that one of the benefits is that you will lose weight. Hopefully if you approach it from that point of view they will understand. Just be careful to always remember that you reinforce that you are doing it so that you can be healthy. With being healthy comes the benefits of losing weight! YAY!:cursing: I hope that helps!

  4. I also have UHC and they paid 100% of my surgery. I had to paid for the anesthesiologist. I just got a bill yesterday actually. It was $184.00. Not bad though. My dr billed my insurance $36,000.00 for my surgery and they got paid $3000.00. Big difference! All UHC plans are different though. The best thing to do is call customer service. This will give you an idea of what to expect. Customer service actually told me that I would pay almost $2000.00 out of pocket. I never did. So that's why I say at least you will have an idea.

  5. Hi there. I went through Dr Richard Benavides in Richardson. He is well known surgeon in the area. In fact, I live almost 6 hours from Richardson and I have ran into several people here in town that have had the LB done by him. You can see his credintialing on his website. He's a great doctor and I highly recommend him. I am not sure of the cash paying cost. Thank goodness, my insurance paid for mine. I hope that Helps!

  6. Hello. I too was banded in October and have only lost 20lbs. I felt a little discouraged until Friday. I had a fill of 1.5cc's and I can definately tell! I feel confident about this fill. This puts me at a total of 6cc's. I have already lost 4lbs!!! Just keep your head up. Losing is losing and some of us lose slower that others. I have decided that there is nothing wrong with that and I don't need to compare my self to others who are banded. I would rather lose than gain!

I too felt normal...like I didn't have a band until this last fill. Then I went to eat and ate too fast. I threw up for the first time. :w00t: Well, now I know to slow down and chew my food.

My NP told me that I should really start feeling and seeing a difference on my 2nd or 3rd fill. I am on my 2nd fill and IM FEELING IT!

Good luck and chin up!

  7. I am so glad that I came across this post! I was banded back in October and I have only lost 20lbs. I felt so discouraged that I didn't even want to show my "face" again on Lap Band Talk. Yesterday is the first time I have logged on in a long time. I have had one fill and my band is up to 5cc's. I am so glad, in a way, that I am not the only one that is having this problem. I go for my second fill on the 23rd of this month and I hope that it really helps. I am so scared of failure. Thanks again for posting this and boosting my hopes!!!

  8. I was in a lot of pain after surgery too. I was banded on the 15th of this month and I can tell you that I feel almost 100% again!!! The gas was the worse for me too! WALK, WALK, WALK!! As hard as it may seem or as simple, it really does help. My incisions are still tender but were cut really well. The biggest incision is where your port is. That's the one that hurt the most. The morphine didn't even touch that pain!! Hang in there!!! IT DOES GET BETTER! :)

PS-THE GAS X chewable TABLETS HELPED WITH SOME OF THE GAS BUT DIDN'T TOTALLY ELIMINATE IT.

  9. Hello Everyone!

I am banded now! Whoo hoo! My surgery went well. I was just in a lot of pain when they wheeled me into the recovery room. They gave me two different pain meds. I had an allergic reaction to one and so I was given a shot of benadryl. That made me more drowsy on top of being high from all the pain meds. All in all, it wasn't too bad of an experience. I am just super sore! I hope it subsides soon. The hotel that they put us in was really nice and comfy! The doctors and all the staff were really nice! I am so glad I went through with the surgery!! Well, I just thought I would drop in and let you all know how everything went.

Good luck to those being banded today!

  10. I too have been in the similar situation. I agree that if he really loves you he will change. It really is as simple as that. I went through years of that with my husband (then boyfriend). Almost 9 years to be exact. We will be married 2 of those years on the 28th. I don't know how I did it but I believe it was the love that held us together. It was always that "something" that kept me with him or vice versa. We have been together since we were 16. From the day I met him I knew I really liked him. At first he was nothing but charming but then his friends in high school teased him because of my weight. It was down hill from that point forward. The verbal abuse began. Here in the last year I really though we were going to get divorced. I thought I was so stupid to have wasted all those years with such a jerk when I could have someone that would treat me so much better. I was at my wits end. A few months ago we went out and came home truly "gone" but not enough to have the conversation that saved our marriage. Really it was him that needed to realize what he had. I am not saying that I was perfect but as much as he treated me badly I never treated him badly. I tried to out of anger but I just didn't have it in me. Back to that night.... It was like a light bulb went on in his head! He remembered all of the things we had done as two young people in love. It hit home. Every since that day he has been 100% of a different person! I am so glad that I stuck it out! He treats me like a queen. I know him and I know that he truley is genuine about his love for me now. No one will ever understand this unless they have experienced it for themselves. I am glad that we went through what we went through because it has brought us to where we are now. He treats me better now than I could have ever imagined!! I love him more and more each and every waking day. He is truley my best friend.

I hope that this helps you! I was depressed beyond depressed. I know how you feel. Deep down inside is the answer you are looking for. Follow the tug of your heart and never doubt the direction it is pulling you in. I say this because my heart always told me to give it one last try and I could never understand it but now I do. FOLLOW YOUR HEART! BE TRUE TO YOURSELF! Time will heal everything if you truley love each other and were meant to be. Even if you split up....time will heal your heart! Love yourself!

Please IM me if you want to chat! I know that I am young but I have been through a lot and I feel that it has matured me a lot. Please don't hesitate to lean on me for support!

God bless and good luck sweetie! :)

  11. Well, I went to the doctor yesterday because I have been having problems with my asthma. So the doctor examines me and asks me some questions. I was there forever! :) I just switched doctors so this was my first visit. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They all seemed sincerely concerned. Now, I know that this is for my own well-being but they want me to see two more doctors before they will let me have my surgery! What?? I have been cleared on all my pre-op testing and now she says that she won't allow the surgery to continue because of my family history of heart problems and my asthma not being controlled. Ok, the asthma thing I totally understand. I must see a Pulmonologist today so that he can get me on some meds to control this "beast" within me. Tomorrow I have to go see a heart specialist! What?? I did an EKG and it was fine. I have never had heart problems. Well, maybe I should be thankful for having a doctor that cares. I guess I just want this so bad, it upsets me to think that I may not be able to go in for surgery yet. I have worked so hard to get to this point and now this? I am appreciative that this new doctor really cares and has taken these measurements for my saftey, I just hate that this all has to happen now. She said that I was in bad condition and that asthma being as bad as mine is, could be FATAL!!!! Fatal??:tt1: No one has ever told me that before! That word hit me like a ton of bricks! All I know is that I don't want to die on the operating table, so please pray that in these next 7 days before my surgery, things will come together with my health. I would really appreciate everyones support and prayers.

  12. Good morning again everyone! My prayers are with the next go-round of bandsters.

Wow, the days are just dwindling down. :w00t: Im so stoked I can't wait!

Well, I am not staying the night, however the price my surgeon charges includes a stay at the hotel down the road the night before my surgery and an overnight stay following my surgery. There will also be a nurse checking in on me.

I really like that part of the deal. I will be six hours from home so this really helps. I have family in DFW area though that I will stay with for the rest of the week before me and my hubby come back.

    IM SO EXCITED

  13. I am on for 10/14. Second day of pre-op diet. Could eat a whole cow I think!

I too am on my 2nd day of the pre-op diet. I did good yesterday until the evening time. I think I just waited too long to eat. Then I wanted to eat a cow also!! LOL! :cool2: I am going to try and not wait so long today before I eat dinner. Good luck to you on your second day. Please don't eat any cows! ;)

  14. Good morning everyone! I hope everyone is doing well as they are going in to have their surgeries as well as those who are recovering from the first go-round of bandsters.

I need to get chapstick, Gas-X, Protein shakes, broth, Jell-O and some good DVDs to watch while I am home! :cool2:

Can you fill me in on the secrect behind needing a sports bra with no wire? ;)

    Thanks!

  15. I was once in a similar situation while dieting. I just stopped losing weight. No matter what I did I could't drop a pound. I finally ran into a trainer that complimented me on my weightloss. I had a break down and told her what was going on. She suggested that I up my fat intake 10 grams daily. She simply said that sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. To my amazment, it worked!!

I was not banded then so I don't know how this will effect you. I lost a total of 30 lbs with that method. I only gained the weight back because I completly stopped eating healthy and working out due to some serious family issues.

Now I am being banded as I have gained a large amount of weight! I can't wait! :cursing:

Keep your head up! Let me know what happens. PM me if you want.
