I am getting so frustrated. only 1 pound this past week. I lost a few the week before, but this whole first month has been mainly stalls. I am so tired of it.

It's terribly frustrating, but at least you are still losing. And you've already lost 43 pounds, which is a lot!

  2. I had BMI 35 when I had the sleeve, am now down to 32. I was taking meds for high blood pressure and blood sugar, so that was one of the main reasons for choosing surgery.

I did pay for the surgery myself, as I was told I did not weigh enough or have enough co morbidities to qualify for surgery paid by insurance,.

In your husband's shoes, with all his co morbidities, I would certainly consider it.

Good morning from slightly overcast San Diego (man I'm going to miss this city as I leave my home of 25 years a week from tomorrow morning).

My 1-month surgery-versary is in a few days. There was a week when I was gaining weight (yes, even following guidelines)--probably from Water retention, but it's coming off again now, and I'm less puffy having discontinued one of my two BP meds at my doctor's request. I'm down 31 pounds since the liver-shrinking diet (2 weeks before surgery).

    NSVs:
    1. Yesterday, I went to Target with my daughter. It was the first time in ages that my back wasn't killing me, and I didn't have to stop and rest my hand against walls to relieve the back pressure.
    2. I can fit behind the wheel easier... even when my thin 17-year-old daughter forgets to put the steering wheel back up when she's done borrowing the car.
    3. I've been able to stand for longer than 3 minutes without pain, which helps me do more packing (soooo much packing... the movers arrive this coming Friday).

Great that you are experiencing so many benefits!

I wonder about my BP meds too, I too have lost 30 pounds, and I'm still taking two BP meds. I don't know if or when that will change. Last week I forgot them twice, because now I have to take them in the morning due to nausea, and mornings tend to be hectic in my household.

I did discontinue the blood sugar medication, but I would love to be able to say goodbye to at least one BP med. That would be so great.

  4. Five weeks after surgery today, and after more than a two week stall, I finally started losing weight again this week.

Today, for the first time in more than a decade, I weighed less than 100 kilos (220 pounds). I'm 99.5 kilos or 219 pounds. I know it's just a number on a scale, but it made me so happy. I've lost 13.5 kilos (28.6 pounds) pre and post surgery, and I've already completed more than 1/3 of my final goal.

What, if anything, have you done to Celebrate a mini goal or the end of a stall? I feel like doing something, but I don't know what. In the past I would probably have bought myself something good to eat, but that's not an option anymore.

  5. I'm five weeks past surgery and the pain was a lot less than I expected. I did get some strong pain meds in the hospital, but when I came home I only had normal pain meds and I stopped using them after a few days.

I did have some problems with gas and nausea, but in all I was surprisingly well the day after surgery and I did go to work a couple of days before two weeks had passed.

Before this surgery, I've had a c-section, shoulder surgery and surgery for fibroids. Of the four, this one was the least painful. If you follow what the doctors tell you and take pain medication, you should be fine.

I am about 6 weeks post op, I just started eating solid food a week ago, I can only eat 2 to 3 bites before I feel like I am going to throw up. Since introducing food I have not lost any weight. Anyone experiencing the same? Any advice how to stop the Plato?

I had a stall for more than two weeks after I started on solid foods. It was really frustrating, but recently I started losing a little weight again.

All you can do is be patient. In the first days and weeks after surgery, you are losing a lot of Water weight. Then your body starts adding the water weight again, but you're still losing fat. You just don't see it on the scale for a while, since the re-added water makes up for the fat loss on the scale.

Just stick to your program. Eventually you will start losing weight on the scale again.

Are you still taking an acid reducer? I read someone was having a lot of nausea weeks after surgery and when they added Prilosec it got much better.

Yes, I'm taking Omeprazole. My nausea isn't that terrible anymore, I just have to be very careful what I eat, and eat very little at a time and slowly.

The way it works for me, is that I'm eating and everything is going fine. Everything is measured in advance and I'm not eating more than usual. And then all of a sudden, I feel like I've eaten too much and sometimes I have to throw up. It comes on pretty fast and here's no prior warning.

How far PO are you? Is there a calorie level your nutritionist recommends? Mine had me bump to 800, I'm eating 4 meals a day plus a snack. Every 3 hours I'm eating 2 oz of Protein + 2 oz of either veg, carb or fruit. snack is greek yogurt w Protein powder. Constantly putting calories in, 150ish at a time. I feel so full of energy last week, walking 40-60 minutes a day between 2 or 3 walks. Plus I'm just up off my butt so much more than I used to be.

I'd check w nutritionist, but maybe a little more calories?

I had the gastric sleeve a month and four days ago. I did not get a calorie level recommendation from anyone, no.

Currently, I am eating every three or so hours, but I cannot stomach either protein powders or greek yogurt. So I eat mostly chicken, eggs, fish, ground beef and some veggies. Not a lot of fruit. Sometimes a half or a whole Protein Bar per day.

I cannot eat much more than around 40-50 grams of meat at a time. If I eat more I will throw up. So, I'm pretty much eating as much as I can. The only way to increase the calories would be with fruit juice or something like that, which is not on my list of recommended foods.

  9. Is anyone else feeling sleepy during the day and/or falling asleep after work?

I'm getting at least seven hours of sleep every night and more on the weekend, but I feel awfully sleepy in the afternoon and quite often I fall asleep on the couch sometime between 5 and 7 PM, even if I don't intend to.

I'm eating 4-600 calories per day and getting 40-60 grams Protein daily, so I feel like I should have enough energy to stay up. Now it's almost 10 PM and I have a headache and want to go to sleep, even if I didn't get up until 7:30 this morning AND took a nap in the afternoon.

Has anyone dealt with this and found a way to become more energetic and less sleepy?

I thought I would be happy to start Phase 3, nothing tastes good 🥺

That will probably change in time. I find that my taste in food has changed somewhat. I no longer crave bread or chocolate, for instance. I went out to eat yesterday with people from work and had a chicken soft taco. Ate the chicken, which was fine. Had a tiny bite of the tortilla and I didn't like it. And I used to love tortillas.

I'm averse to more foods than I used to be, but meat still tastes good and agrees with me. But I know someone who had gastric sleeve a while ago and still can't eat meat. So, it's very individual. At least you are free from cravings, if nothing tastes good.

Actually it was closer to 3 weeks like day 19 or 20 but it did break and yours will too.

    God, I hope so.

I have actually googled: "Is it possible to lose only 20 pounds total after gastric sleeve", and I've read some of the stories from people with gastric sleeve "fails", but they're still mostly people who in the end regained what they lost.

From what I've read, I do know that this stall has to do with Water balance in the body, but it's still hard not to feel like a failure.

People are starting to notice that I'm thinner - my cleaning lady came in the other day after more than a month, and the first thing she said when she came in the door was: "You are slim!". My stomach is a lot smaller and I see a difference in my face and neck.

But it's still very frustrating to see a same or similar number on the scale every day. Especially since I'm hovering just over the 100 kilo mark and never dipping under it. I haven't been under 100 kilos in more than a decade, and I would so very much want to be.

Today I'm 31 days post-op. I'm feeling stronger and healthier than before surgery! I still get tired easier, but I'm so grateful that I had this surgery.

    That's great. Congrats!

I'm 30 days past surgery and still feel kind of weak. I get winded from walking and I fall asleep most afternoons after work. I am getting closer to my Protein goals, although my weight has stalled now for almost two weeks.

I'm not sure I'm glad I had this surgery.

  13. 18 hours ago, Candigrl1 said:

The first one was 2 1/2 weeks and the last three lasted about a week.

Wow, two and a half weeks! That must have been so stressful. I'm on day 12 of my stall, so it's almost two weeks and it's just so incredibly demoralising.

  14. 20 hours ago, Candigrl1 said:

Eat the amount of calories your team advises you to eat. I thought the same as you did in the beginning the stall will pass, it sucks right now cause you are in the middle of it but it will pass. I have been through four stalls since my surgery and I still lost weight maybe I will hit another and maybe not but I'm not too worried about it right now. Stay strong.

They haven't really advised me about calorie amounts, and I have my first post surgery appointment in two weeks.

I gained weight today, after 680 calories yesterday. Now my stall has lasted for ten days. How long was your longest stall?

  15. I hit a stall at 2 weeks and five days, and I'm at four weeks now and still at a standstill. So I've been in a stall for a week and two days.

To be honest, I'm afraid that this is it. That I will have gone through painful and expensive surgery, only to lose a little over 20 pounds and nothing more.

I'm eating 4-600 calories most days. The highest I've gone is 900 calories (included fruit juice) and the lowest was under 200 calories when I was feeling really bad and couldn't get anything down. The day after I ate 900 calories I gained 700 grams, so I don't think upping the calories is the answer.

  16. How soon after surgery did your blood pressure go down?

I am hoping that my blood pressure will get lower once I start losing more pounds. As it is, I haven't really been measuring my blood pressure post surgery, although I probably should.

I have had a had time taking my blood pressure meds after the gastric sleeve, and I have even thrown up my pills a couple of times. I used to take them all at night, but now I take two pills at night and two in the morning, because four in one sitting is too much.

Hello Everyone I’m Back Post Op my Surgery date was August 31st I feel great my Surgeon was Amazing she is one of the Top Docs in NYC I didn’t need pain medication after I left I had a two day stay My only Issues is getting in my H20 so now I’m trying to do at least 3 oz every 15 minutes between meals. Has anyone had to take injections to reduce blood clots? I have to take them twice Daily I am Severely Anemic not sure if that has anything to do with it but I hate needles and having to inject myself is NO BUENO other than that I have a lot of energy I have to stop myself from doing to much and let my body heal I’m used to always being on the go. also my sleep pattern is off I have to get into a nighttime routine I only sis one weigh in I will step on the scale Wednesday it will be one full week

I had to have shots against blood clots every night for ten days. I couldn't do it to my self, so my sister and my best friend took turns giving me shots.

How do cook them? I'm wary about oil or butter.

I cook them on a non stick pan with a tiny bit of oil.

I tried a soft boiled egg yesterday, but for some reason it didn't agree with me, although I tried to chew as much as I could. I couldn't even finish the whole egg and I ended up throwing part of it up. So it's back to scrambled.

My doctor said to limit caffeine intake to about 16 oz a day. They recommended Decaf, but are ok with regular.

Is that only coffee, or any drinks with caffeine?

I was under the impression that we should avoid soft drinks (soda) and anything with bubbles for at least a month and possibly forever. I have never liked coffee and don't drink much tea, but I did have a soft spot for Pepsi max and other sugar free sodas. But I haven't had any since the surgery.

I realise this is a good opportunity to quit for good, but I miss it. I could stay off alcohol indefinitely, that doesn't bother me.

I started the soft food phase this morning and I have never been that fond of eggs, but the scrambled ones I had this morning were SO GOOD. First semi solid food I’ve had and it was nice to chew something again! I probably ate 1.5 eggs and seem to be doing fine.

Yes, I remember that first scrambled egg. It was sooo delicious. Congrats on being in the soft food phase.

I can only eat one scrambled egg at a time, still, so you're lucky.

I start everyday w 113 g fat free plain Greek yogurt w a scoop of Optimum Nutrition Protein powder, today I had banana flavor. I find it mixes in nicely.

I also enjoy sugar free pudding with a scoop of unflavored Isopure mixed in. Again, I can't taste the Protein powder, but that's me.

Then I sip on Bone Broth, which I simmer w fresh herbs (strain off), 1 cup of that has 10 g protein.

Between the yogurt, pudding and broth I'm already to 70+ g of protein.

I move to soft foods next Tuesday, maybe then I'll start feeling more restriction.

That sounds good. I tried greek yogurt, twice, but even though it was lactose free (i'm lactose intolerant) it didn't agree with me. Im fact, it didn't agree with me so much that I ended up throwing up and haven't tried it since.

I did buy some sugar free Jello and sugar free jello puddings, but unfortunately they are included in the many things that make me gag post surgery. I'd never tried the puddings before, but I had tried sugar free jello from time to time and found it ok, but now I absolutely can't. Same with protein puddings, just the smell makes me sick.

I thought I was done with vomiting, since I hadn't done so in a week, but tonight I did again. All I had was a soft boiled egg. I've had scrambled eggs plenty of times before and it was always ok, so I thought I could try soft boiled. I hadn't even finished half the egg when I had to throw up.

Feeling kind of defeated tonight, but I guess I'll email the nurse again for advice.

  22. My clinic didn't require us to do a liquid diet pre op. They only asked me to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery and suggested a low carb diet, but didn't require any special form of diet.

I was on vacation in July and pretty much ate and drank whatever I wanted for three weeks, and still lost two kilos (4.4 pounds). After that, I only had one more kilo (2.2. pounds) to lose before surgery and that was pretty easy. I just didn't eat added sugar and tried to stick to meat and veg.

I had a meeting with my nutritionist today, She was super helpful with ideas I can start trying and encouraged me to do so. I've been kinda scared lately to eat, mostly because I don't like the way I feel after and the fear of overeating. She also confirmed what my PT doc. said yesterday and told me I was right on track where they expect to be in my weight loss.

I think I'm so scared of disappointing everyone it has just gotten to my head that I need to lose it all RIGHT NOW, haha.. This has been such a mental struggle and adjustment for me as I'm sure it is for all of you. I think each time I see my team I'm so shocked at how positive they are with this journey for me. That I just expect to be treated awful like I deserve it as a punishment for getting to where I am.

I continue to look forward to seeing all of our journies with this new tool we have 3mo, 6 mo, 1 yr + unfold.

You're doing great. 43 pounds is a lot!

I know what you mean about the disappointing people. though. I'm kind of frustrated myself, because I'm not seeing any weight loss this week. I started with 102.0 kilos last Saturday, and then went down to 101.3 on Monday, up to 102 again Tuesday, down again to 101.3 yesterday and up to 101.7 today. So, I've lost 300 grams this week, or less than one pound, which is basically nothing.

I'm a bit envious that you guys get to meet your doctors and nutritionists already. I had surgery on the 9th of August, and my first appointment is with a nurse on September 22nd. I can email the nurse and nutritionist in the meantime, but I don't get to see anyone. I have no idea if I'm where I'm supposed to be at in my weight loss or not.

Hi folks, I'm new to this site. Gastric bypass on 8/23, doing really well so far. Gas pain really sucked but I'm past that, I'm up to the pureed stage. So far my pouch has tolerated 4 oz of pureed food quite well, no pain or obvious fullness so far. And I'm already able to drink lots of Water, easily getting 100+ oz in, plus 40 oz of herbal tea with no problems. Seems strange! And knocking Protein out of the park, easily hitting 100 g a day. I emailed my ND to get his feedback to see if that was too much.

I expected more restriction at this point. How's everyone else feeling restriction wise?

I didn't really feel that much restriction until I started eating actual food. For the first few days, I would sometimes have to throw up, because all of a sudden I would feel like I ate too much, even though I ate slowly, and then nausea would hit me. I still feel nauseated but I haven't had to throw up for more than a week.

You're doing great with the Protein. I've never managed more than 65 grams per day, but I cannot get the Protein Drinks or powder down.
