Whether or not this OP was a troll, I find it interesting to read here or watch (My 600-pound Life) that food addiction is so prevalent in some peoples' lives that they would rather die than live without their huge amounts of favorite unhealthy food.

Some live in denial when obese. Thinking we will somehow be OK and continue on in that lifestyle. Co-morbidities will eventually catch up. Others simply don't care, with the mindset, " We're all going to die of something someday". Both mindsets are true of most addictive behaviors.

I think most of us here really tried pre-op. Through endless amounts of diets and/or hours of exercise to finally admit we needed help and did something about it. Hence our lack of regret.

To misquote an old saying, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.... I say nothing tastes as good as healthy feels. Hugs everyone!!

I mean, I kind of hope OP was a troll, because it's terrible if someone was really feeling this bad about their decision to have surgery.

On occasion I've regretted my surgery, like when I was losing a lot of hair, but overall I'm happy that I've lost 50 pounds. I wish I could lose more, and hopefully I will. I dislike how my neck looks now and I'm dreaming of having a neck lift or even a face lift, but mostly I did this for health.

I'm positive I would never have lost 50 pounds on my own. I was losing and regaining the same 10 pounds over and over again, and would have just kept doing that. I don't really miss food, since I can eat pretty much anything, just a lot less. Like I'll have a hamburger sometimes, but just 1/4 or half. I kind of like saving on groceries, since I eat less.

  2. I did have some Hair loss in the first year after surgery and I had to cut my hair twice because of it. Now, more than a year after gastric sleeve, my hair looks normal again although maybe not quite as thick as before. Even my mom, who is generally pretty critical, said today that my hair looks good.

So, if you're only a few months from surgery, this will get better.

yes - very common. Mine is always over 1000, and has always been met with a shrug. It was once over 2000, and I was just told to cut down on my supplement. I know several people who've had WLS who swear they feel better when their B12 is over 1000. So...don't freak out - it seems to be fairly normal. Your doctor will let you know if he/she thinks it's a problem, and at most they'll recommend cutting down on your supplement.

My blood test last month showed both B12 and folate as too high. B12 was 981 (normal is 142-775) and folate was 205 (normal is 6-34). They told me to switch my supplements. and take normal Multivitamins instead of bariatric ones.

I've been taking this bariatric multivitamins since my surgery, and my blood test earlier this year was ok. The folate especially seems really high. According to the label, one capsule includes 200% of daily value for active folic acid, and 41,6% of the daily value for B12.

Since I'm cheap, I figured I would just finish the bariatric Vitamins by taking them every other day, but I wonder if that was the right choice. I also read that high B12 in blood may be because your body isn't absorbing or utilising them right.

Also, I was a bit low in monocytes, which may mean my body is more susceptible to infection. They didn't mention this, I just saw it in the report. Has anybody else gotten this result?

  4. Congratulations! It's an amazing feat to lose over 150 pounds. That's pretty much a whole person! 😀

I've only lost a little over 51 pounds in 14 months after surgery, but I'm still super happy to finally be under BMI 30 and also to be under 90 kilos (198 pounds) for the first time in more than 10 years. After years of yo yo dieting, and all kinds of supplements, diets and exercise plans, this was the only thing that worked.

Even though BMI is not an exact science, it still feels so great to be simply "overweight" and no longer obese. I hope everyone here will experience that and more!

    1 year mark check ins?

Well, tomorrow is officially 1 year for me. I am down 102 pound since surgery and 124.8 since my Pre-op.

I have definitely slowed to a crawl on the weight loss at this point. The last couple months I have barely lost anything. But, I will take this weight over where I was.

Wow, everybody has lost so much. I've lost about 20 kgs. or 44 pounds after surgery, and 23 kilos (50.7 pounds) overall.

My goal for the next year is to lose another 10 kilos (22 pounds) and get to 81 kilos. My weight loss has slowed down to a crawl, but that's also because I fell down the stairs outside earlier in the summer, and hurt my leg, so I haven't been able to exercise that much.

Don't feel bad, I am now at the point where one month I lose 10-15 lbs, and the next i will lose like 2... But I am not gaining, so it's ok.

    You're doing great.

I haven't lost anything close to 10 lbs any month this year. The last month I lost a significant amount of weight was December 2022. This year it's 1-2 pounds per month, even less.

I've been tracking my eating more religiously these last few weeks, and a typical day is 1100-1200 kcal. Shouldn't I be losing or is that enough for maintenance? Will I have to go even lower? I'm getting 50-60 grams of Protein most days.

How is everyone doing? I've been slipping back into some old bad habits, but trying to get back on track. I've been sitting at about an 85 lb loss for a few months and am pretty happy with where I am. I would like to kick it up a notch and start some weight training to feel stronger. Here's my progress so far. The first pic is 36 lbs down before surgery, 2nd photo is now at 85 lbs down.

Congrats, 85 lbs is a lot.

I've lost around 46 pounds and I've been stuck in the same or similar weight for a while. i had two setbacks this year due to injury. In the beginning of the year I twisted my ankle walking in icy conditions. And in April I fell in the street and bruised/broke some ribs, so that limited my exercise for a while.

i've started exercising again and hope there will be no more injuries. I'm tracking my eating through myfitnesspal and I'm eating 1000 to almost1400 cals per day. Most days it's around 1200 per day. Myfitnesspal is always saying something like: "If every day were like today... You'd weight 87.5 kg in 5 weeks", And yet that doesn't happen.

Is it possible my body has adjusted to a lower calorie amount? Or will I be able to start losing again once I can exercise more?

  8. I went to the mall today to try on summer dresses. I went into a store (Esprit), where I previously only fit into their roomiest of open sweaters.

This time, I tried on four dresses, including two button down dresses, a sweater and a jacket. The dresses all fit, and the jacket and sweater (both in XL) were a bit too big.

I bought one dress, a floral one with small buttons running down the front. I haven’t had a dress with buttons in front in years, because my breasts were too big.

it’s just such a weird feeling to walk into a regular clothing store with normal European sizes, and be able to fit into all their dresses. This hasn’t happened to me since I was in my twenties..

  9. Everyone has lost so much. I've only lost around 44 pounds, and I'm still hovering between being overweight and obese, at BMI 29 to 30.

The first three months of this year have been one big stall for me. Last year, I lost a little or a lot in alternating months. So the first month I lost a lot, the second month a little etc., except once I had an almost two month stall.

Now I have stalled for three months. What if I don't lose any more? I'm still chubby. I honestly don't see that much change. I still don't look good. I'm so disappointed.

  10. I totally understand what you are going through, and I'm with you in the frustration.

I'm 8 months from surgery and I've stalled for the last three months. I've only lost around 20 kilos (44 pounds) and I'm still 15 kilos or 33 pounds from healthy weight.

I can't believe this is all the result I will get from a very costly and difficult surgery. I'm halfway there, and I don't know how to jumpstart my weight loss.

It seems to make little difference what I eat. I don't eat a lot. A typical day for me is 8-900 calories. I went on a week long trip this Easter and decided to eat whatever. I still didn't eat a lot at every meal, because I get full really easily, but I ate regular food and didn't write down calories. I normally use myfitnesspal, but skipped it this week.

The result? I still weigh the same as I did three months ago. Now I've gone back to low carb and I've gained 100 grams. During my vacation, I walked a lot. Didn't make any difference. I haven't exercised as much as I wanted to, because I've had repeated injury, but I still try to move as much as possible. And I cannot fast during the week, because it makes me so tired and cranky, and I need energy for working with difficult teenagers.

I'm at a loss what to do.

    Everyone is progressing well.
my stall has broken this week. FINALY. I didn’t meet my first goal. Only just 2 kilos shy. But I’m just glad I’m feeling alive. And loosing weight.
I was given the green light to exercise again but limit the walking and weights. Soi mainly walk in the pool.

I saw the dr again today. still have issues and now they are talking surgery 4 and mesh walls. When dr fixed the hiatus he tightened it to good and it’s been most of the issue I have with vomiting and not tolerating solids/soft foods. I have a new found love for Carrot and Apple smoothie. Sounds weird. But it’s so yum.
I was told by the dr that our food hormones were cut away. And over the next 4 years they will grow back. But by then we should have stabilised a good eating pattern.

I haven't heard this before about the four years. As I understand it, a smaller stomach produces less of the "hunger hormone" ghrelin, which is what signals to the brain that the stomach is empty and we need to eat.

But I've never heard that they grow back. I thought as long as we didn't overeat and stretch our stomach, we'd be ok. I'm quite happy with not being hungry all the time, and I don't want to go back to the way I was.

Anyhow, I'm finally at BMI 29, which is something. We've lost almost the same amount of weight, 22 kilos. I sincerely hope I will lose two kilos in February and each coming month, and not just one like in January. I still have 16 kilos to go, and it will take more than a year still at the rate of one kilo per month.

Hey Buddies! Today makes 5 months for me! I was sleeved 8/22:) Thought I would post my progress.

Today I’m down 71lbs from my pre-surgery weight. I’ve also lost a total of 45 inches all around. Including 11 inches around my waist! Can you believe it?! I am so glad I decided to track that along with my weight. 🤗

I rewarded myself with an exercise bike!! Lol.

On Friday I had jeans and a t-shirt on and the difference must be telling because lots of people commented on my weight loss. But more importantly I noticed I was once again sitting cross legged without even thinking about it. I don’t even know how long I’ve been doing it,🤣 but I was pretty damn excited.

    image-0.0020265579223632812.jpg

Congrats! You look great and should be happy with over 70 pounds in weight loss.

I only lost one kilo (2.2 pounds) in January, so that’s not great. But I haven’t really been able to exercise since I was sick in the first week of January and then I hurt my foot.

So far in this journey, I’ve always lost more in the month after a slow month, so here’s hoping February will be a success!

My goal was to lose 63 pounds in the first year, but I've already lost 54. I'm 8 pounds away from getting into the healthy BMI range. (I should tell you I'm 5'2" and a small frame, my surgery weight was 198.) It's slowing down but not stopping, like 10ths of pounds at a time. I'd like to eventually lose about 20 pounds from where I am now.

It blows me away that if you met me now you would just see me as an average woman who could lose a few pounds, but certainly not as an obese or even particularly overweight person.

Eight pounds away from healthy BMI is tremendous! Well done. You must be really happy with your results.

I'm working on getting to your starting weight, since I'm 199 pounds now, and I still have 40 pounds or so to lose to reach a healthy BMI. My weight loss is slowing down too, as I've only lost a little more than one kilo so far this month or 2.4 pounds. I was hoping to continue to lose 3-4 pounds a month, so that I would have a chance to reach a healthy BMI this year, but it may not happen.

Still, I'm exactly at BMI 30.0 now, so I will soon be in the "overweight" category and not obese, which is something.

Yeah stalls are a bummer, but I just keep looking at how my clothes are falling off. That I'm not gaining. I try to increase my movement, but I've been sick with Covid and it has totally sucked the lifeforce outta me. But I'm getter better! I didn't eat the best I could have over the holidays. The sugar made my joints get inflamed and it was painful to move. After eliminating the sugar and the crackers, breads, cinnamon rolls, and crap from my diet again, it finally dropped.

I'm at the halfway point! it's all downhill from here :D

It's great to be past the halfway point, isn't it? I'm there too, although I haven't lost much weight so far this month. I was hoping to get to 90 kilos this moths, but I'm not sure I will. The good news is that I'm 91 kilos now, the same that I weighed after my son was born almost ten years ago. So, everything I gained in the last decade is now gone.

The exercise routine is not going well, unfortunately. There's too much ice and snow to do a lot of walking outside, and both my son and I got sick in the first week of January, and I'm still recovering. J haven't had a lot of energy after work, but hopefully I can make it to the gym next week.

  15. I wasn't obese as a teen and hardly overweight either. so I personally would not have qualified or wanted to have surgery. I think the recovery would be hard on a teen and that bariatric surgery is not a good option for teens unless they are severely obese. Children should not be on diets either, in my opinion. I think a lot of my weight problems stem from going on a diet as a teen, even though I was not technically overweight. I developed an unhealthy relationship with food and started binge eating.

I’ve seen it described as lasting 18months. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think how long the honeymoon phase lasts is individual much like most things during this process. There are just averages which you can use as a guide. Some people find their hunger comes back after 6 months which is a signal of the beginning of the end of their honeymoon. It doesn’t mean they’ll stop losing, they just have to work harder. Another signal is when your weight loss slows down considerably which happens to everyone when they get closer to their final weight. Mine started slowing a lot at 5 months when I was almost at my goal. I continued to lose for about another 11 months without meaning to. I lost around a kg +/- a month during that time.

I’m a bit nervous since I’m five months past surgery tomorrow and I’ve only lost a little over half of my excess weight.

I spent most of October and November in a stall, did well in December and so far in January I’ve lost a little bit but not a lot.

I still have 17-18 kilos to go to get to a healthy BMI, and I’m not going to get there in a year if I will only lose a kilo a month from now on. I lost a total of 19 kilos in the first five months, most of it in the beginning and then in December.

10lbs per month is still WAY better than the majority of the population. Plus you recognize eating sweets may be a problem. That's an easy solution! Esp now that the holidays are over. Keep at it, you still have 4 more 'honeymoon stage' months

I thought the "honeymoon stage" for bariatric surgery was 18 months, not ten?

I'm almost five months past my surgery date, and I've lost a little more than half of the excess weight. I doubt I will lose it all in the next five months, as my weight loss has slowed down from the first month or two. I'm hoping I will have more time than that.

I am 6 months post op and I’ve only lost 62 lbs. I’ve struggled with Hair loss and I’ve slipped with all the sweets this holiday season. Nothing too crazy though, just enough to be disappointed. Have I wasted my time and money at this point?

Sixty two pounds in six months is a job well done. I've lost nearly 47 pounds in four months and three weeks, so almost four months. I'd be very happy with 62 pounds in six months, although most likely I will lose less than that.

I ate a little bit of Cookies and candy during Christmas. It didn't make me gain weight. The key is to stop in January, and make sure the sweets are just a seasonal treat and not an everyday occurrence. Start the new year with a new exercise routine and stop being disappointed in yourself. You're doing great.

Another day, another stall... I think I have spent most of November and December in a stall. It's driving me nuts. I had hopes of hitting a goal before new years, but that's not happening.

I can see how frustrating that is, but then again you've already lost almost 80 pounds which is a LOT. So, your body is probably adjusting to that massive weight loss before you can start losing again.

I spent the last week of October, all of November and the first week of December in a stall, pretty much. I only lost 6 kilos (13 pounds) in those three months, most of it in December. I'm thinking January is going to be your month. It will be great starting the new year with renewed weight loss!

I think we can't help comparing ourselves to others, we're only human. If you stick to your programme post op you will surely lose weight and the more closely you stick to it the better you should do. Best of luck!

Edited to say I lost 17lbs in the first 6 weeks after my sleeve and I reached my goal weight about 10 months post surgery. Am still losing very lowly after 13 months.

Reaching your goal in 10 months is very good. I'm not expecting to reach my goal until 18 months after surgery. I've heard that the weight loss slows down after six months or so, Was that your experience too?

Hey, I had a VGS on 22nd Nov and now 4weeks PO. I’ve lost 22lbs so far (11lbs of this on the LRD pre surgery). I was hoping for a little more progress than where I’m at currently, I’ve been sitting at a loss of 22lbs for the last 2 weeks - I know of the 3 week stall period, just want to see if anyone had had similar losses to me in their first 4 weeks to see if I’m on track, as often posts I see it seems everyone has massive losses in the first month or so and mine seems a little low :( starting weight was 250lbs ans I’m 5ft 8in for reference - thank you

I lost a little under 20 pounds in the first four weeks. We're the same height and my highest weight was 249 pounds, and I was 242 pounds on the day of the surgery.

Twelve weeks after WLS I'd lost almost 29 pounds after surgery and 35 pounds total. Today, it's been 20 weeks since surgery and I've lost 38 and a half pounds since surgery, and 45 pounds overall.

I've seen people who've lost more, but many of them have higher BMI than I have. I'm 20 weeks from surgery and already half way towards my goal, so I'm happy with that. We all lose at our own pace. I've already had two major stalls and that happens to anyone, I understand.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. I didn’t even know that was a thing! Thanks for the information! Congrats on being halfway to goal! That’s great!

Thanks! I felt better pretty soon after I started the antibiotics, so I'm not sick during Christmas which was what I feared.

I'm now even further down on the scale, which is so strange for this time of year. Normally, December is the time of year I gain weight and not just during Christmas. So it's especially welcome now after a long stall in November.

I hope everyone is having a great Christmas. We open our presents on Christmas eve, so we've already had Christmas dinner and opened out gifts. I got a whole box of homemade Cookies from my niece, who is a college student and always gives something homemade. They're quite delicious, but definitely not healthy.

What would you do with a gift like that? Eat one per day? Give them to friends? I already regifted the chocolate I got from work to a refugee woman I've been assisting, so I can't really give her the cookies as well.
