Meal replacement bars that are good?

I will have to try the Built Bars. Currently, I eat the Protein One protein bars. 90 calories and 10 grams of protein is a pretty good ratio. My favorite is the Strawberries & Cream variety.

    August surgery buddies!

Coffee or Tea. Soda is a no go obviously. I’ve been off soda for almost two months now (sleeved 7/27/22).

    August surgery buddies!

My doctor said to limit caffeine intake to about 16 oz a day. They recommended decaf, but are ok with regular.

    Vitamins

I took chewables for about a month. Now, I think I’ll stick to the capsules, because the chewables tend to be on the expensive side.

    Help! VSG or Bypass

Just about a month post-op sleeve here. I went with the sleeve because of lack of complications/intensiveness of the surgery compared to the bypass. My own opinion is that the bypass is for those who are incredibly morbidly obese, such as 400, 500, 600+ lbs. I think the sleeve is better geared towards those who are overweight and obese, but not to the extent of the bypass. Ultimately, it's between you and your surgeon/doctor. I wish you the best of luck!

    Fitness level before surgery

Prior to surgery, I was anywhere between 215lbs to 326lbs. Since 2011, until June of 2022, I was averaging 4-5 gym trips a week. I would say I was pretty active with going and actively working out (cardio + strength training/resistance training). I would tend to think that with a poorer physical fitness level, recovery would likely be harder, than if you were more physically in tune with yourself. However, you just have to push past that all and realize you are capable of so much more than you think you are.

    Caffeine!!!!

I gave up coffee for about 2 weeks. I have had a small Starbucks Iced Coffee once post-op. I also drink iced coffee in the morning before work everyday, and I seem to be doing ok with it.

How often do you guys weigh yourselves?

I tend to weight myself every morning after I pee and have been up for about 15-20 minutes.

    August surgery buddies!

Yeah, it's difficult to recognize that though something may have went down really easy, that we should still take our time and eat slower. I think many struggle with that because of our "on-the-go" attitude as a society. We don't enjoy our food anymore, we devour it. In regard to the binder, I haven't worn mine since probably day 6 or 7 post-op. However, when I did wear it, it did start to get uncomfortable as I lost weight.

    August surgery buddies!

This ^^^^ I too took a little bit of time to notice that "full feeling". That lower chest tightness I feel, is that your body is telling you that you're likely close to being full and to not go crazy with anymore intake of food. Learning to slow down and pace myself has been and continues to be the most difficult thing with eating.

    August surgery buddies!

Many people will have to complete a portion of their pre-op diet on liquids. I had to do two days, but I've seen others who did multiple weeks of liquid.

    July 2022 peeps!

Two weeks Post-Op today... The first 2-3 days were the worse with gas pains. Ended up at the hospital for two days, instead of one. I was given a prescription for pain: Percocet, and a prescription for nausea. Thankfully, I never had to use the nausea medication. Doc said all my incisions have sealed up and are healing well. Tried eggs for the first time last week and those went down and continue to go down well. Nothing so far that I've tried has given me any pain/issues, with the exception of a small breakfast burrito from WaWa (which I should've known better to try). I actually broke out of the 300's today, and weighed in at 299.8 lbs, which is 26 lbs less than what I started with, the 1st day of the pre-op diet. If I were to have to do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat! I hope everyone else out there is having a similarly nice enough experience thus far.

    July 2022 peeps!

Surgery went well. Surprisingly enough, I’m not too sore (for now). Honestly, the gas pain is the worst thing. I’ve been able to sip down 4-5 1oz cups and the sugar free ice. I’m up and walking around. So all is going to plan so far. Thanks for all the stories, sharing your stories, and the encouragement.

    July 2022 peeps!

Today is surgery day for me. Luckily, I only had to work the pre-op diet for 16 days (14 days on limited food and 2 days liquid). Overall, the pre-op diet really wasn’t too terrible. Thankfully I already loved protein shakes lol. I’ve lost about 10 pounds so far prior to surgery. I’m not really that nervous about the procedure itself, more so the immediate aftermath. I’ll update when I can afterwards. For now though, I’ll see you all on the other side!

    Telling others

I won't lie, I have friends and co-workers who have had some sort of weight loss surgery (lap band, gastric bypass, etc.) and I unfortunately didn't look at them as I should. I thought they "took the easy way out, didn't work hard enough, etc.". However, now that the shoe is on the other foot, I realize it was wrong for me to unnecessarily project my opinion on their situation. All that aside... I think it's up to you when, who, and how you tell. You can be as detailed or as vague as you'd like. I've told my boss at work and just told her I was having "surgery". I have told close friends and family, who I know would be more supportive and receptive to it. Ultimately, it's up to you who you tell and how you tell them. Good Luck!

    Surgery tomorrow!?

I'm hoping everything went well for you. I know you can persevere through the recovery process. Just take things a day at a time and try your best to be patient. My surgery is less than two weeks away, so I too am starting to feel the beginnings of nervousness.
  18. Welcome to the community. I'm almost done with day 3 of my 16 day pre-op diet. The first day truly is the hardest. Once you get past that it's almost like you're on a mission. It's a small sacrifice as to avoid any issues with the exploration part of your surgery. Best of luck to you on your journey!

What do YOU order at Starbucks?

For any fellow pre-sleevers, there are two or three teas that Starbucks has, that are zero (0) calories, just add stevia. I personally get the passion tango tea, with stevia. Definitely something to quench my thirst, tastes great, and I can drink it during my pre-op diet phase.

    July 2022 peeps!

Today, I start my pre-op diet. It’s going to be a little more difficult that I anticipated, but I’m sure after a day or two, it’ll be alright. Breakfast and Lunch are going to be the most difficult, basically a protein shake for those two meals.
