May Surgery Buddies
Sunshine Princess replied to The Traveler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m so happy to be home. My sleeve was yesterday. Surgery went well but I did not like the hospital so I’m relieved to be home. -
I just had my sleeve done today by Dr. Sekhar with New York Bariatric Group. I cannot say enough wonderful things about him, his staff, and the practice. He made me feel at ease right away and having a personal concierge to guide me through the requirements and track all of the documents for me made the process a lot easier. The concierge also handled all referrals for me and found providers in my area. I’m in Connecticut so i recommend the Farmington, CT location if you’re in mid state or around the Hartford area. Wonderful practice, wonderful doctor and overall a really smooth experience.

Tomorrow is the day for my VSG surgery! I’ll be staying overnight in the hospital. I haven’t had any surgeries that weren’t on an emergency basis so are there things i should expect? Any tips to get through the jitters? I’m excited to get to this point but just having those last minute jitters. I’ve kept busy today by cleaning the house and getting the couch set up with a sleeping wedge for when i get home and have stocked up on protein shakes, protein water and some yogurt and cottage cheese since my surgeon goes right to the puréed stage once I’m home.

3 months post op breakfast ideas
Sunshine Princess replied to phoenixillume's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m not an egg person either. Before surgery, my breakfasts would be one of the following: 1. Green yogurt with a little extra protein powder 2. Cottage cheese w/ bits of avocado 3. Sliced avocado and a small Turkey sausage patty 4. Spinach, butternut squash, and some ground Turkey mixed together 5. Apple slices and string cheese 6. Slices of tomato topped with Greek yogurt (plain), dill, and bits of bacon -
Hospitals will bill insurance as a first line of coverage. They often don’t know the arrangement you’ve made directly with the surgeon. I’d give your surgeon’s office a call and also call the billing dept in the hospital to let them know you have an arrangement elsewhere .

I must be the only person who doesn’t like the Fairlife Protein shakes. The after taste was too much. I like the premier protein shakes (chocolate peanut butter is my favorite) but i blend them with almond milk and ice to thin them out. I also like Dynamix Fruity Pebbles protein powder from Amazon. It tastes like a bowl of fruity pebbles.

May 16th surgery here too! -
Tell me why the sleeve worked for you when other diets didn't.
Sunshine Princess replied to lizkey88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a really bad case of cellulitis that put me in the hospital for 5 days in OCtober of 2021. My weight was at my highest, my blood sugar and A1C were ridiculously high and I was tired and unhappy all the time. My life had become very sedentary and it was depressing to know that I could and would lose weight but I'd eventually gain it back. I wanted the sleeve for that restriction and for the removal of the hunger hormone. I see it as a tool to help me gain my life back and to motivate me to get and stay active. -
I saw that one too! My husband bought this one for me because I am kind of a Taylor Swiftie.

My new shirt!! I’m wearing it on Monday and will take progress pics in it too!

So I did a thing...
Sunshine Princess replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! This is so awesome!!! 🙂 -
if you have an air fryer, it makes a world of difference in the taste. I will also do it really low and slow in the oven so it doesnt have that fishy-oily smell to it. Salmon cakes are really good too.
-
I'm going to try this! The viscosity is just...eww. Like it reminds me of the slime I used to have my students make when I taught science class.
-
And added to the old Amazon cart. Thank you again for the suggestion!
-
I'm more excited than anything!!!!! I think i jst burned out on the Premier Protein shakes. I bought some protein water from Amazon that will be delivered today.
-
i just ordered some from Amazon! One of my friends who had surgery last year also recommended Organi, which is plant based so I ordered that to try. I've had so many of the Premier Protein shakes that they just arent sitting well anymore.
-
I’m three days away from surgery and I’m so nauseous from protein shakes and broth. I’ve been doing the liver shrinking diet since May 1st and I’m just over this. I don’t even want to drink anything but water.

Why did you choose VSG over other bariatric surgeries?
Sunshine Princess replied to ManicPixie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sleeve has the least amount of absorption issues and the least amount of recovery time. For me, the ability to get back to an active life i started to build upon before surgery was important. I also wanted something that would remove the hunger hormone and the sleeve was my best option. I’ve also found there are less overall issues with the sleeve but the weight loss is just as good as the bypass. -
Please tell me I haven't failed.

Sometimes the truth hurts
Sunshine Princess replied to Tony B - NJ's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I read the thread and I’m sorry but there’s too many people who think they’re being supportive when in reality, it’s enabling. This process is tough and yes, sometimes in weight loss there are tough messages that need to be delivered. You stayed your case using data, facts, and logic. Your responses were not emotional. I’d rather surround myself on this journey with helpful people instead of enablers. -
My surgery is Monday and this pre op diet is killing me. I’ve been doing it since May 1st and i broke down and cried because I’m over broth, soups, protein shakes (i can’t stand the taste)…I’m actually looking forward to the surgery because my practice has you on puréed foods once discharged from the hospital.

Self pay- insurance doesn’t cover WLS
Sunshine Princess replied to Changenprogress's topic in Insurance & Financing
If your insurance doesn’t cover it and you have insurance through your workplace, your employer has decided to not provide the benefit. It is not the insurance company, but your plan design. Call BCBS of NC and ask if your plan has an exception program where you can see if your employer will make a one time exception to the plan and cover this. But please, it’s not the insurance company dictating you can’t have the surgery. It’s your employer’s plan design. -
I had about three baskets of laundry to fold. All winter stuff like sweaters and tunics and i just donated them. I won’t need them with warm weather approaching and when it gets to be cold again, I’ll need new clothes so I’ll just save myself the closet space. I plan on doing that with every load of laundry for the next few months: keep the basics, keep things that still fit but donate the rest so it’s not lying around.
