  1. i have lost 15 pds post-op and my 2 weeks is tomorrow! yay me!! yay everybody!
  2. it does get better. i drink the EAS AdvanEDGE carb control protein shakes which have 17 grams of protein and only 2 carbs per drink. they have both vanilla and chocolate and taste really good. you can get them at Wal-Mart and they are not real expensive. They don't seem to upset my stomach as much as others. Good luck.
  3. first of all, congrats! i just had my surgery on 9/26 so i am new at this too. the only tests i had to have were pregnancy test, upper gi and regular labwork. the upper gi is not pleasant but it does not hurt. they give you some alka seltzer tasting stuff and say to swallow it and try not to burp and then they give you the barium to drink. it is nasty, i am not going to lie, but you get throught it. they just take pictures while you are in different postitions and have you lie down and turn over several times. it does not take long. some have to take other tests depending on age and health condition. I also had to have a psyche evaluation and a nutrition class prior to surgery. also, the surgery is not all that bad or it wasn't for me. i had never had surgery and am 48 years old. it was nothing like i expected. congrats and if you have any questions, just let me know.:crying:

    oh no 5 hours!

i think you should be okay. i was a little stuffy the week before mine. i used saline a lot. also if you can take a hot shower that might help open you up. they took a urine sample the morning of my surgery so if you have a temp or had an infection they will find it. you will be fine. you will be so glad you got this done and today will be over before you know it. i was scared to death but the surgery was nothing. let me know how you are feeling. i will pray for you right now.

    Banded today, 09/26/08

I was finally banded today, 9/26. :bolt: All in all, things went very well! I have walked a lot this afternoon and evening. I only have 2 incisions which I am very happy about. I am not really in any pain. I do have soreness and I can tell that if i don't walk the gas will be really bad. But to all those still considering surgery and to all those how are about to be banded. Just walk a lot and you will feel a lot better. I have only took 1 dose of my pain medicine since I came home today. Good luck everyone.:teeth_smile:Like to hear from all also banded today, Friday, 9/26/08...
  11. hey mommyx2, she is exactly right! I know how you feel. I have had some negativity from co-workers and some friends. But, you know what, I am just not going to worry about them or let them bother me. I have spent my entire life worrying about what others think of me and wanting to be liked for just being me. Not just to be liked by what size or what weight i am. So, forget them. If your friend is a true friend and she probably is, she will get over her feelings. Good luck with the surgery, you will do great! My surgery is this friday. I am so excited and so scared also. But we are doing this for US! not for anyone else.:rolleyes2:

    The Last Suppers.......

hi! I so know what you mean. I have been thinking all week about what I can have each night as I am having surgery this Friday. I did not have to do a pre-op diet so I am still deciding on Thursday nights dinner. I think either rib eye from outback or logans or pasta from Provinos. I don't know but it will be good. Best of luck on your surgery.:rolleyes2:

    no clue

hello Skysmom!!! I am being banded on September 26 also! Congrats. Now, it is normal to be scared and trust me, I am a big baby who has never been in the hospital before so I am scared too. But, it will be okay and in the end, we will be glad that we did it. I do not have to go on a liquid, milk or pre-op diet. I am lucky in that respect. However, I have started trying to drink Slim-Fast in the morning and at supper to try to get used to just liquids, post-op. I am glad we are both being banded on the same date and look forward to seeing great results from us both!!!!!

    I just received my lapband!

I am glad to hear that you are doing so well! I am sure that having your husband's support and help means a lot. I am having the surgery soon. I was just approved on Thursday and am waiting for my surgery date. Good luck and great job!:mad2:
  20. I understand your concern. I had my consult with my surgeon on July 2 and was told my paperwork would be mailed to our insurance company the following week. Yesterday, one month later, I contacted the doctors office and was told that they had not yet heard from my insurance company and that I might want to call them and make sure they had received my paperwork. And if not, to get their fax number and they would fax it to them. When I called our insurance company, they said that they had never received anything from the doctors office. I got their fax number and called this morning at 9:30 and left messsage at the doctors office for them to please fax this. I called them back at 2 pm to make sure that they had faxed it and they said, not yet. I told them I was going to call my insurance company back this afternoon to confim that they got the paperwork and so I needed to know when they were going to fax the paperwork. She put me on hold and came back and said that it would be sent before they left work today, which is 4:30 pm. I called insurance company back at 4 pm and they had received it late this afternoon. I feel like I have just wasted 1 month of time that the insurance company could have been making a decision. I am concerned that when I do have surgery and have to contact them if I have problems, will they handle it efficiently and promptly? When I first contacted them in the beginning requesting information, they told me that they would mail me a packet, which I never got. I am sorry I am rambling so long, but my suggestion to anyone waiting on insurance approval is to call them and make sure that they get the paperwork in a timely manner so that you at least know that they have it.

Thanks for sharing that. I also have never had any type of surgery before. I have never even been in the hospital. I am in my mid forties so I am very nervous about everything. I am awaiting insurance approval. I should know something soon as it has been about 30 days since submitted for approval. Congrats on your band and thanks so much for telling about your surgery. It has made me feel better already. :wink2:
