I am so angry at myself

Gaining 5 lbs isn't the end of the world since most of it will be Water retention. You can drop that in just a few days so no need to beat yourself up. To gain 5 lbs of fat you'd have to consume nearly 20,000 calories over the weekend. So, life goes on. Even after your surgery you'll have missteps. Life still goes on and you'll still lose weight. tmf
  2. And many for not following the rules and many for other unrelated health issues and complications. And BTW, bands are not being removed overwhelmingly. This may be your observation but it's an undocumentible observation.

    Egg drop soup post op?

That would be your doctors opinion but I had egg drop soup as soon as I was off clear liquids(4 days).

    My port is sideways

Sideways? You mean it's standing on it's side and one of the edges is pushing up against the outer skin?

    Gaining weight back.

You should post on this forum(below) and choose a few topics or start your own. Also, there's a band to sleeve revision forum under the VSG forum name. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/76-lap-band-complications/

    Overcoming half way point apathy

Oh yeah. Mine was the 2/3 of the way and it took me nearly 2 years to get back my mojo.

    I'm a little confused

Too tight can cause a lot of complications. Very dangerous and lethal complications. It's better to take the slower road to being healthy. No need to rush this.

    First fill

You're too tight imo. We see many posts like yours where people react days or weeks later with a tightening of the tissue around the band. My last fill took 3-7 days to finally settle in with more restriction.

Is something wrong with my band?

Don't assume it's your band or the port. See a doctor, they'll know. No need to go to a bariatric doc if it's acute pain.

    First fill

Take smaller bites, chew your food to a cream soup consistency and slow down. If you can eat Soups and not get stuck, you can eat solid food if you follow the rules.
  11. Peachee, I got nothing for ya except you might find some support on this forum: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/394-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/

    3 months in..

It does become the norm but it takes time and for some of us it takes a lot of time. I think I was 10 mos out before I finally figured out how to eat slower, chew my food to a mush consistency and take smaller bites. Still, I manage to get stuck or slime at least once a week. For some of us, this is the new norm.

    NSVs!

I love and miss biscuits and gravy. Still have them once every year or two but I was brought up on Tennessee deep fried cooking and my Gramma made the best biscuits and gravy. Oops, way off topic!

    2 weeks post op!

Try to get a seat close to the bathroom so you have an excuse to get up and walk? Maybe a seat in the bulkhead? I work from home and sit on my butt all day. I went back to work 8 hrs a day a few days after surgery so you should be fine?

    Success, I think yes!

    OK, 1/2 Hooray for you

    I'm a little confused

You may have been misinformed that the band will stop you from eating too much. It won't for the vast majority of us. B-52 is one of the very fortunate ones. Not many like him around. But you don't have to have his high level of satiety to be successful. You still have your lower stomach so you can still eat a lot of food. Food just passes through the stoma into your stomach and if you eat enough you can feel very full. But full is not what we looks for and this isn't talked about much before surgery by the nutritionists or surgeons. We look for that feeling of satiety. We seek to be no longer hungry. Soft stop signals like burping, runny nose, hiccups and the feeling that the food on your plate is no longer appealing is what we look for. The band does require some cerebral awareness. It's not a tool that will just say stop. You need to be very aware while eating and stop when you don't feel hungry any longer. The signal to stop can be very very subtle. Like a songbird far off in a forest. It's a tool, a tool that requires that we participate and be mindful of our hunger. tmf

    Welcome Lap Band Veterans!

2004, yes you are but what's a midband? What do you mean a fill only lasts a day or two? You mean you feel no restriction or satiety after a few days? Or, does the saline leach/leak out?

    Water retention?

You're about where I was in my journey after surgery. I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. I was in Bandster Hell. BH is when your stoma(band opening) is still wide open and you can still eat as much as before. It's basically a diet till you get a few fills to get a little restriction/satiety. But, you're doing just about as well as most and better than some. Just keep following the rules as much as you can and once you start getting fills you'll see a big improvement.
  19. I can understand your confusion and anger. I would assume he had no other choice but to remove the band due to the erosion and risk of infection? Erosion into the stomach is one of those health concerns that can take your life. There are many options available now that don't include removing your stomach or rearranging your plumbing. Plication Endoscopic Plication is something new I'd look into(non invasive) Keep us posted on how this turns out? It's definitely one of the more unusual band complications I've read about. tmf

    Water retention?

First, you're not drinking enough Water. You should be drinking closer to 2-3 litres a day. Second, you also shouldn't be concerned with weight gains or losses during the recovery stage. How much weight did you lose pre-op and post-op? What kind of purees are you consuming and how much? If you're consuming carbohydrate rich purees, your body will retain a lot of fluids. Plateauing during the first 2-4 weeks is normal and gaining a few lbs of water is typical. Read this article about the 2 week plateau: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html
  21. I agree but I think that was her point? There's a lot of Dr's, patients and patient families with axes to grind. We can all pick and choose the studies that support our own agenda. LOL..But, that is one scary site isn't it? Fat Bastardo is the site commando
  22. playlikeworldchamps you should try to live up to your moniker? You're playing with biased and retreaded old studies. Even though it's dated 2014, it's a study of patients from 11-19 years ago when the band was initially developed. You sleevers keep bringing this same study up time and again. What is it with you? Knock it off. This is a forum that is supposed to support all WLS techniques. Your post is violating the code of the forum. Support, not denigrate!! I doubt you even understand that a study of patients from 19 years ago using old bands and old surgical techniques and a very small sampling of 201 patients isn't worth ****! I can pull up a half dozen recent studies showing just the opposite of your silly study. Here's one: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23235396 Here's an article from a very successful surgeon: http://www.weightymatters.ca/2012/01/guest-post-surgeon-chris-cobourn.html So, you see, your own personal opinion doesn't hold up to scrutiny. It's just your opinion based on faulty evidence and facts. 3200 recent patients vs. your 201 patients from nearly 20 years ago?

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week

Today is my fast day. It's noon here and I'm about 16 hours from my last bite of food. On my way out for a 20 mile bike ride. Now that there's no random carbs/glucose floating around my system, any fuel I burn should come from burning fat cells. So here's to burning off about 1/3 lb of fat.
  24. Here's why your doctor wants you on a 4 week liquid diet. He's seen your guts. He's the guy who placed the band and knows your complete medical history. The band was placed around your stomach. Then a portion of your lower stomach was pulled up and over your band, sutured into place with 6 sutures so that the band won't migrate up or down. These sutures can take 2-4 weeks to heal. Eating solid food causes your stomach to go into peristalsis to move the food around and through your stomach into your small intestines. Your doctor doesn't want your stomach to be moving at all during the healing phase. There can still be a lot of swelling around your stoma/band area. You haven't mastered the band eating rules yet. It takes months to learn how to eat with the band. If you eat solid food and swallow a chunk of chicken and it gets stuck in your stoma, you might have a violent barfing session which could tear the sutures away causing the band to slip. It's just not worth it to disobey the rules. Going back into surgery for a slipped band this early could result in no band and then maybe a revision to sleeve or RNY. Keep following the rules and this episode of your life will be like child birth. I don't remember mine I know

    Exploring Re-banding (kinda long)

There's a couple of new bariatric techniques you might consider? Placation is one and the other is a new technique where they perform a faux sleeve endoscopy. No stomach removal and no invasive surgery. But that one may still be in the exploration stage? I agree with bulawookie, check out another surgeon or two. Can't hurt. And if some new non surgical technique shows up in 3-5 years you can still revise? tmf
