    Sick after having band unfilled

Well, let's hope Purevida is right but it sounds like a slip to me? Nothing to mess around with. See your Dr asap to at least have it removed if it is a slip? Or, they can reposition it if that's still an option?

Losing patience, where did it go?

If your new me is so abrasive, maybe you should look for ways to communicate in a more constructive manner. I know for me, even on this forum, I've found myself making remarks that weren't constructive and possibly rude and/or degrading. It takes work and patience. And the work and patience never ends for some of us.

    Yummy now--No Way before WLS

I'd say cauliflower. Before WLS I ate it but the flavor was benign. Now, I've learned to mash it, flavor it with garlic, cut it up into steakettes and use it in place of noodles. Sort of cauliflower helper?

    Restriction.... WOW

I agree with Justwatch. Also, so many of us find it hard to eat much slower and smaller. I hear people say they follow the rules but still get stuck. I know for me, that if I really follow the rules, I never get stuck. I only get stuck when I'm in a hurry, distracted or just eat way too fast or, when I don't follow the rules. This part of your journey can be the most difficult to learn. It's so easy to clog the stoma with food not chewed to applesauce consistency and then impact that food with food eaten too quickly and in amounts too large. This causes stuck episodes followed by slime(sliming) and sometimes regurgitation. But, getting stuck for the first time is a reason to Celebrate. You know your band is there and it's beginning to educate you how to behave in the future. Congrats!

    Recovery time?

I was up and working part time the next day but I think most folks take about 3-7 days to recuperate. Walking 3-4 miles may be a stretch though. I'd want to be about 2-3 weeks out before I pushed that hard.
  6. Ha! There is no such thing as normal with bands and doctors. I like his method though. That way he knows if you're leaking saline. He must have had a couple of leaky tubes/bands to add this to his fill protocol. Consider yourself lucky to have such a good surgeon who wants to get it right!

    Do you eat oatmeal?

I eat it too and like 3 of you, I don't like it real mushy. I buy the thicker oats in a box and I'll add some steel cut oats from Sprouts to make it even more chewy/grainy. I add applesauce, cinnamon and a little sweetener. And yes, it's a slider food but that's why we were banded, so we could still eat the foods we liked but in smaller quantities.

    Say no to Lap-Band video

I'm one of the folks who posted below her video going back 8 months ago. I feel sorry for her since she can't control her eating habits. Many can't. Many just didn't understand that this truly is a lifestyle change but they don't want or can't change their lifestyle. The band isn't for everyone and it's unfortunate that the screening process for the band isn't more efficient.

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week

So you went 32 hours with no food? Sorry, I'm just not following your routine since you posted at 1:11 am on the 10th? Did you mean you ate at 3 pm on the 8th till 11 pm on the 9th? That's a long time but if it works and you don't suffer or feel overly deprived go for it. I personally don't want to do this 4:3 diet if it's painful or I feel deprived. Once I feel that way I know I'll back away from it for a while. I've managed to stretch that morning fast into 2-3 pm without much suffering and this has carried over to the other 4 days a week. If I skip Breakfast and don't eat till 11 or noon, I'm OK with it. It's just one less meal I didn't need in the first place. I'm relying on my body to tell me when it's time to eat. Sounds like the same for you? tmf

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week

    When was your last meal?
  11. It's a waste of time for some docs due to reimbursements from surgery to consults and fills. With the other surgeries the downside is the patient gains weight if they overeat. With the band we can suffer severe medical issues like slips, erosions and dilations. Doctors have to spend more time with band patients and less time in the O.R. where they earn thousands of dollars an hour. Not all docs feel the band is a waste of time. There are some surgeons who prefer not to interface with patients, so they push them towards other surgeries. There are also some patients who should not get the band due to their psychological profile and eating history. But most docs still perform banding knowing that many people would not get WLS at all if not for the band and the fact it can be removed or revised. The new procedure of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty will probably greatly reduce if not eliminate laparoscopic VSG and gastric banding procedures. jmo

    Question regarding restriction

"I can't swollow anything no matter what consistancy it is" Does this include Water, shakes, cream Soups, applesauce?

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week

I agree. Seems like this interval fasting lifestyle fits very well with we Bandster lifestyles. It's basically missing breakfast 2-3 times a week and a protein shake for lunch. Many of us have been doing this for months or years already. So tweaking it just a little was easy for me. One more item? I'd also encourage people to exercise or walk sometime between breakfast and lunch. Our bodies have probably used up it's storage of glucose(carbs for energy), so the exercise should cause our bodies to burn fat for this energy. Also, if you do exercise most of us will have at least one hour of anorexia(no hunger) which is a bonus. Consuming a protein shake as or with your lunch will also insure that your body won't turn on and burn muscle as fuel. tmf

    Sweet joy of a NSV!

You're a perfect example of both of these short videos. Sweet isn't it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBJziqgrQgk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozt-V0PPJaw

    5 days out

    Yes.
  16. First, it's imperative you follow your doctors post op diet. If you don't, you can ruin the surgery by causing the sutures holding the band in place to tear away. We all went through this period and yes most of us were hungry, but it can be done and has been done thousands of times. Yes, many of us were starving shortly after surgery. You won't feel any satiety till you get a few fills. Till then it's just another diet. They don't tell you this before surgery but we call this period "Bandster Hell". Hang in there, it does get better. tmf

    5 days out

Almost everyone experiences long term port pain issues. Mine lasted 2 months.
  18. How often you can have a fill. How much saline does the Dr usually put in? How long are they free? Does he have a dietician on staff? Does he have an idea how many of his bands have failed by %? How long is the pre and post op diets? Does he have a panic number you can call in case of emergency?

Please list an average days food

4 oz sausage patty and 2 eggs one honeycrisp apple turkey croissant sandwich with gouda cheese, apple slices and cranberries. Shepherds pie with mashed cauliflower to replace the mashed potatoes. 2 dove dark chocolate bites.

    Beware of the UN-fill !!!

Remember, shakes are slider foods and won't give you long term satiety like dense Proteins, dense veggies? There are several of us who plateaued and we're doing intermittent fasting. I lost 17 lbs in 2 months with this type of lifestyle(not a real diet). It's called the 5:2 diet(again, not really a diet) but it's so band friendly it just screamed at me to try it. There's no need to stray away from eating like a Bandster with this program and it's so easy to follow. Check it out: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/318937-starting-52-and-no-scale-this-week/?p=3596606
  21. I might be able to eat 4 cups of something if it was incredibly tasty but I'd be very uncomfortable. Each of us have different tolerances to specific foods. Maybe for you, stir fry(very greasy/slippery) is a slider food and just slips through the band and into your lower stomach where it's still there(untouched and intact) waiting for you to stretch it out with mass quantities of food? And yes, I can eat rice just fine as long as I follow the eating rules.

    HELP NEED INPUT PLEASE!

That is odd. You might want to demand a X-Ray(fluoroscope) to see if the tube is misplaced or if the port is hung up on something?

    What does "PB" mean?

When food backs up into your esophagus your body creates saliva and phlegm to help the food pass through. Some people can regurgitate some of that stuck food and spit it out. This takes a lot of pressure away from your pouch and esophagus.

    Possible slip or too tight?

I don't hear anything that sounds like a slip. If your band slips usually you can't eat anything and you may have horrible reflux.
