  1. Yes I am experiencing the same thing,I am thinning at the front of my head and you can see my scalp. I was banded 3rd Sept 2008 and have lost about 35 pounds. I have had the flu twice since January, so it could be from that as well. Anyway this week I have started taking 2X daily dose of Multi Vitamins & minerals and having fresh mainly vegi and fruit juiced daily. I am really focusing on healthy nutritious food as I have been really slack and having lots of Meal Replacements when I should be eating real food.

  2. I think that is a good amount of time, but it is so hard to say because everyone is so different. For me I had really, really bad back pain the first week and also had side stitch when I walked for the first month and I still get it from time to time 4months out.

  3. I think most people don't get restriction till about their 4th - 6th fill. I feel I was lucky, I had restriction the 1st month, was banded 3rd Sept then no restriction for two months and it wasn't untill my 5th fill a month ago that I had any restriction. I can eat anything still, most days, only smaller portions (appox 2 cups max). I go for my 6th fill 6th Jan which I am really looking forward to, I can't wait to be able to eat 1/2 - 1 cup food. So don't be discouraged, even though it is so very hard not to. My best advice is to not worry about restriction as it could take a while, but it will eventually happen.

  4. Hi Everyone

I got a fill a few weeks ago. I am up to 5.5 cc. food gets stuck a few times a week. The pain is unbearable and could last for as little as 20 minutes up to 2+ hours. I will get the watery mouth, gag, vomit reflex, hiccups, etc. Is there anything that anyone has done to help relieve the pain while trying to pass the food? or is there anything you can do to make it pass? I do follow the rules...chew, chew, chew, small bites, all that stuff. I really don't want to have an unfill...any advice is greatly appreciated!

APPLE CIDAR VINEGAR about 2 teaspoons in a glass of Water and I add honey to make it taste a bit sweet, but not necessary. Apple cider vinegar is the only thing that has helped me when I have been stuck.

  5. hello all!!

This seems to be a very confusing topic. I've read all i could find on the subject here in the forum and 2 theme's seem to be prevalent.

    1- everyone is different.

2- it takes a few fills (2-4 seems to be the average) before you start feeling restriction.

That doesn't make much sense to me. Why should it take a couple of fills to feel restriction. Is it so the fill dr.'s can make more money? I've just started to eat food since my surgery 16 days ago. So i was a bit curious as to what and how much i could eat. I have a 10cc band with nothing added to it so far. As far as i can tell there is absolutely no difference then before i was banded. If it really does take a few more fills before the band starts working how do i continue to lose weight? I do plan on eating sensibly by getting on a calorie reduced diet but that seems to defeat the whole reason for getting the band in the first place! I would very much like to hear your experiences in this matter. Thanks so much!!

i totally agree with you mrboswell!!!

  6. I was banded on September 18th lost well the first 2 months 22 lbs. Now into my 3rd month NOTHING. I had my first fill Nov.12th they added 1cc to a band that already had 4cc's. I was hoping for some restrictions but nothing. I hope with the next fill after the first of the year I will have some restrictions. It is really hard, I had such high hopes that this first fill would do the trick. My goal now is to stay on track try and excerise more and not gain anything over the holidays. I have made friends with 2 ladies that had the gastric bypass surgery, one 3 days before me, she has lost 47 and the other 1 month after my surgery she has lost 30 lbs . I know this is the healthier way so I will have faith. Keep my food journal and stick to what I write and the weight will come off. How are all the people who had surgery in September doing???

    Happy Thanksgiving all,

    Nene

I had surgery 3rd Sept lost about 22 pounds the 1st 5 weeks and nothing since, I go for my 5th fill today and I think this fill will bring me to my sweet spot.

  7. Greetings, Does anyone know the average cc. content to reach full restriction of the 9cc Realize band? I've had 5 fills totaling 4cc & I don't feel hardly any restriction at all. My Doc.will only give me .5cc per fill at this point.

Thats so frustrating. Hang in there, can you go and get a fill somewhere else and pay for it or ask for a bigger fill. Break down and cry if you have to, insist that you want a bigger fill. I know that most people say trust your doctor, bla, bla, bla but I say we know our bodies better than anyone else and doctors don't know everything and also everyones body is different and reacts differently. I am going for my 5th fill tomorrow and I have 6.5cc and little to no restriction, but I have a feeling in my heart that tomorrow will be the one that will get me to my sweet spot. Good luck!!!

    1st fill 2cc

    2nd 2cc

    3rd 1cc

    4th 1.5cc

  8. I think i'm stressing cause I haven't lost any weight since about week 5 post op and my husband keeps saying aren't you supposed to be eating only a cup of food and then I feel guilty and then I eat more. I feel I should have lost a little bit in the last six weeks, but it is my fault cause i'm over eating just like I used to. I just hope I haven't waisted our money by getting this lap band. I am going to get another fill on Tues and then I am going away for a month on Thurs and then its Christmas and New Year, oh god I hope I lose weight an not put it on.

  9. I have been very frustrated with no restriction and starting to put weight back on. I had good restriction up until about 5 weeks post op, I was going to have a fill at 6 weeks but got food stuck that lasted around 3 days so got a fill at seven weeks. I have had 4 fills and now have 6.5ml in a 9ml band with absolutely no restriction. Was wondering if I have a band slip from getting food stuck so early on, as I did have a certain level of restriction before the food getting stuck. Can anyone give me some insight.

    PS I was banded 3rd Sept 2008

  10. :blink:seriously!!! i need some advice because i am going crazy! i am so very aggrivated right now. i was banded august 27th and have ONLY LOST 23 POUNDS! :) whats the freakin problem?? what am i doing wrong? i mean seriously... well- ok do i exercise?? to be honest no, but only b/c i get up at 6, leave house by 730 drive 45 minutes to work, get off btw 5 and 7 usually then drive home, but when i get home i have school work, a husband, and a child. so you tell me where im to fit in exercise??!!???! but i know that can not be the only reason why im not loosing weight. so what is the problem??? i have had 3 fills and i feel the same. i am still able to eat pretty much whatever i want- which yes i am sure is getting me in some trouble but i do not eat near as much as i used to. so- can anybody help me with this?????? anybody else going throught the same thing? share some of your stories, what do you eat or drink? how do you exercise? yadda yadda... maybe your story can help me.

Maybe its time to really look at your life and ask if your happy. A healthy balanced life is important for your kids, husband and most importantly yourself. You sound like you have way to much on your plate. No one on their death bed ever says I wish I worked more.

  11. my bmi is 28.1 but my body mass is 31.8 do you think i would qualify for lap band surgery

kcarr I was banded with a bmi of 28. My body fat was really high, classed as obese, I have really bad neck and back pain and was snoring. If you have no health problems with a bmi of 28 I don't know anyone will band you though, but ask around.
