Have you considered channeling the energy into a sport for yourself? I have definitely been more into my hobbies than I used to be. And I think now I am going to start training Jiu Jitsu.

I had a check-in with my surgeon's NP and and dietician today. I was SO nervous leading up to this appointment! I was expecting to lose more weight and was nervous the nurse practicioner would be upset with me.

They said that everything is going really good. I've lost 22 pounds since my surgery date, 42 days ago.

They do want me to up my Water intake to 100 oz and walk 10,000 steps per day. That's going to be a challenge, but I'm up for it.

They also said I'm on track to get to a healthy BMI (25) at one-year post op!

We’re all different but I was barely eating 200-300 calories for the first weeks (I wasn’t given caloric goals). I only got to about 900 at 6 months. You’ve only just had your surgery so take the time you need to reach your goals. My surgeon was happy if I was getting closer & making an effort. If you’re close to getting your fluids in you really shouldn’t be experiencing dehydration but it’s still important to watch out for. Don’t worry if you miss your goal/s one day, as long as that’s an odd occurrence & not a regular one you’ll be ok.
Headaches & nausea aren’t that uncommon this soon after surgery. The stress & anxiety of the surgery & then worrying if you are doing the right thing contribute plus you may be experiencing some withdrawal type symptoms too because of the restricted diet. If it persists, & reduces your ability to get your Protein & fluids in, contact your surgeon.
Many of us experience changes in our sense of smell & taste over the first weeks. Many find the shake they enjoyed before surgery is suddenly disgusting. It can affect your reaction to any food. Some can become excessively sweet or salty. Then there will be days when your tummy says nope don’t like to something you regularly ate/drank. If that happens, avoid it for a few days even a week or so & try it again. Your tummy is just sensitive & fussy while it is healing - I described mine as being like a petulant, temper throwing 2 yr old.
Artificial sweeteners are awful. I try to avoid them where I can but they seem to be in almost everything. I loved when foods became crazy sweet & used the time to eradicate any craving for sugar/sweet. I only have a small amount of sugar (<10g added sugar) or sweetened food in my diet (yoghurt & protein bar only). Instead of yoghurt, what about make your own smoothie from protein powders & milk? You can better control the ingredients that way.
These things all pass. Just give yourself time to heal from the surgery & feel more comfortable & confident with the changes & how you’re managing them.

Purée has been really challenging for me. I had a really horrible dumping episode during my liquid stage when I ate some pho broth and since then, I cannot even look at a broth without feeling sick. I'm still doing a lot of full liquids like shakes, yogurt, and Protein puddings, but here is what I have added as purée:
refried Beans + taco seasoning + a sprinkle of low fat cheese
chicken salad (canned chicken, pureed + fat free greek yogurt + low fat mayo + celery salt + pepper)
mashed potatoes (the low sodium instant kind)
french style scrambled eggs (really runny) + turkey sausage (pureed) + a sprinkle of low fat cheese
    sunny side up egg
egg salad (same as the chicken salad, but add a bit of pickle juice; eggs are pureed)
I'm not going to lie, getting past the texture & smell of the chicken salad was ROUGH, but it tasted good.

I started my pre-op liquid diet today, VSG is scheduled on 8/8. I haven’t started taking Miralax, yet. I was assuming that was just for post-op, I guess I need to double check on that! I’m so hungry though, this is going to be a LONG 2wks

Wow! One month of liquid diet? ! You can do it!!! Are you able to incorporate greek yogurt during this time? It was a life-saver for me during my liquid diet prior to my gastric sleeve surgery. I’m scheduled for a revision to RNY on August 8th so I start my liquid diet on Monday July 25th. I see my nutritionist at the bariatric center this morning to go over dietary requirements for RNY. I’m not nervous about the surgery since I’ve already had one bariatric procedure and did just fine. I just remember struggling some during the liquid diet. It can be tough but will be sooo worth it! 😁👍🏻

I don't think it is a matter of cheating, but truly a state of mind and understanding moderation. Having a bite or two is very different than having the whole thing. I have been actively working on changing my eating habits for months to get out of that cheating mindset. It has helped me tremendously. You know you aren't consuming sugar when your chewable Multi-Vitamin is too sweet! LOL But I am sooo determined to not undermine all my progress that I can't even allow myself to even THINK about cheating. I guess it is easier for me to be an all or nothing type of point of view, but I also know that is not sustainable and that is where I'm learning to "allow" myself that flexibility for moderation. You can fail at this if you don't change your eating habits. Get close with your nutritionist and look inside yourself as to what are your emotional eating triggers. I used to make everything about food. If we were happy and celebrating, if I was stressed or upset, if I was bored... whole vacations were planned around food. Now it is becoming less and less to me and more of a necessity and it frees me up to do so many more fun things.

So the PreDigested Liquid Protein came in today and it is awesome! 2Tbsp gives you 20 grams of Protein that will be fully absorbed! I got the grape to try out and now I'm gonna order the cherry. On the days where getting all that Water down might not be possible, at least I know I can get 20 grams of protein down from 8 ounces of water!!

    Hey everyone! August surgery buddies
    ....
33 years old and as you can see all my weights stats. Surgery was schedule for the 3rd of August. I am a self paying patient going to Huntsville, Alabama. I wish this would have been an option sooner in my life. I rarely see anyone on here even close to my SW. Anyways, I originally was going to go to Mexico, however, even though it was about half the price I decided to stay in the states. It is very nice to meet you all and hopefully we can make connections and keep chatting. I work 3rd shift so I tend to reply and be on in the middle of the night.

So today I learned something pretty interesting that I wanted to share. All of us have a high Protein intake that we have to have post-op so I was sure the collagen that I've been adding to my Water would count toward that protein intake level. I checked with my nutritionist and she said that collagen is fantastic to take for hair, skin, and nails but it is not a complete protein to count towards my total daily protein intake. So I got to researching and there is a product here on Bariatric Pal for liquid predigested protein. So I sent the link for my nutritionist to review and she came back that since this collagen has tryptophan in it that it completes the protein and can be applied to the daily count. So get this... 2 TBSP of this Liquid Protein equals 20 grams of protein! https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/pre-protein-20-liquid-predigested-protein-16oz-bottle-grape You can add this to your water easily. So in essence, if I'm struggling to get water down, I can also use this to ensure I'm getting the protein needed. So I'm kinda excited about this Has anyone else found any tips or tricks they are going to try?

Hi, I am absolutely doing stuff!! Probably too much! I am keeping my calories at 1400 a day, working out, I just finished a 12 week Bariatric Lifestyle Coach (BariTale Coaching) and just signed up with Bariatric Nutritionist for a 12 week “how to eat successfully after surgery” program (Bariatric food Prep).

I bought some new pajamas for the hospital, some glass baby food jars and some tiny fancy espresso cutlery this week. 😂

I’ve lost over 30 lbs already (with help from Lomaira Rx) and was given the “easier” pre-op diet which seems super easy and manageable. Not a liquid diet.

I got the time off finally in and approved today at work.

Just going to rinse and repeat until surgery day!!!

I went back and forth for a year thinking about if I should have this surgery or not. I was terrified. The reality was that I wasn’t going to be able to do it alone, otherwise I would’ve done it already. I couldn’t keep living the way I was.

    Has it been easy? No.

BUT... this has been the single greatest decision I’ve ever made for myself. It’s given me back my life, and I would go through it all again in a second!

    -95lbs 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Welcome! I'm new(er) to this community, as well, but it's been great so far to learn from others who are or have been in the process. I had my initial consultation in January of this year and completed all of my pre-op requirements at the beginning of June. My surgery is scheduled for July 21. I'm having VSG.
I'm 31 and live in Florida. No children but I do have the cutest, most spoiled English Bulldog.

    Hi there
Im just starting my bariatric surgery diet. It is something I have wanted for a while, but just recently got the courage to go through with it. It will probably still be a few more months out, but I'd love to make new friends that I can experience this journey with! I'm 36 with a 6 year old and a 1 year old.
