2 hours ago, Crisscat said:Wow that is quick! Ive been going to my weight management office since Oct 28th, 21 (my first visit). Ive had to do a series of "workshops" and bloodwork before moving into the next phase.....which was cardiac dr to release me for surgery then more bloodwork then off to do the EGD (Feb 9th). My March visit was to be turned into insurance for approval but the office dropped the ball and that didnt happen. So now my April appt I was told it would be sent (again?) for insurance approval with a tentative surgery date sometime in May is what I was told. I'm only going to wait a week or two and ask if its been sent yet because it wasnt done in March . Glad to hear yours was more flawless and quicker. In my program we must show we will not gain weight before we get approved for surgery. I have been able to stay below my start weight on my first visit but Ive not lost much either. So Im constantly a work in progress. Others lose quite a bit up till surgery and others like myself squeak by. I have mobility issues because of my knee issues.
Just reading your comments, I've had to wait 5 years in the public system then covid hit! That added another 2 years on top of the 5! so eventually I gave up! I wasn't even thinking about it anymore and was just over it, till March 24th they called me asking if I would be ready for the surgery in two weeks April 7th π³and I said NO! (That was too much of a short notice,) wasn't ready for that I needed at least a month for preparations lol I was happy to hear that they had a vacancy for the 27th of April lol so I accepted that one, I've done all my blood tests seminars and everything else I was asked to do I'm very low on Iron its down to 10 where it should be 45 so im told I will be getting an iron infusion on the 14th otherwise I won't be fit enough to go in to theatre, but none the less I weighed at 109kg back in December and today I weigh at 99kg I'm really trying to lose as much as I can on my own by cutting down on carbs and sugar and resisting my usual Temptations just so I have a quicker recovery I'm on the shakes diet atm I've just done a whole lot of meal preps with lots of low starch vegetables that are on my "allowed to eat list" steamed and chopped chucked it in the deepfreeze! and loads of salad so they will be a companying my Optifast shakes before and after the surgery I realised my downfalls and mistakes were NOT doing meal preps ahead of time as I would just grab whatever was in the fridge when I was feeling peckish, I really want this to work as I've waited so long for this surgery, the only thing thats really stuck on my mind is that we have to take Multivitamins for the rest of our lives π³Other than that I'm ready for this journey and a whole new life style that will change my life for the better!ππ€

I'm going next week to have sealant put on them because I have sensitive teeth. Holy smokes. I better call my dentist tomorrow. I had absolutely no idea this could happen!!!!
Everybody's body reacts differently ours may not be the teeth it may maybe the hair we can never know but yes I've heard that teeth do get brittle if not taken adequate supplementsπ

Hi Nelly I'm due on the 27th of April I noticed you said our taste buds will change I've never heard that one before can you tell me a bit more about that what actually happensπ³

I didnβt have any pain from the surgical sites, but the trapped gas was something else! I couldnβt lie down and ended up sleeping in a chair upright. Iβve bought one of those triangular cushions since Iβve been home and itβs been a godsend on a nighttime.
I was only on clear fluids for 2 days and was encouraged to drink from the moment I woke up from surgery. I had IV fluids and if anything I was over hydrated - I couldnβt stop peeing!
Iβve not had any issues with pain from the sites at all and Iβve not taken painkillers at all. Iβm just really tired still and canβt really face going for long walks yet!Oh wow! 200 300 calories that's quite a difference from what we normally had, naturally the body goes into shock and low on energy! but hopefully we will all succeed in our Target, I'm sure in the long-run everything will be a lot easier and it will be worth it all ππ€π

1 hour ago, Charlie1810 said:Hi all. I had my sleeve surgery on 4th April.
interested to hear how everyoneβs recovery is going?Hi Charlie!
Hope all goes well for you in your weight loss journey ππI'm interested to know what happens the day after surgery how do you feel what are you supposed to be doing are you meant to be walking around the day after because I heard some people found it very beneficial to walk to release the gases in the stomach the day after, but wouldn't that be painful with the stitches so fresh?

8 minutes ago, Mariann812 said:WOW! Do they have any idea how you developed a hernia THAT large? Mine likely started when I was of with twins 20 years ago. Lifting, long distance running, etc., etc., and voilΓ ! Hernia! My daughter is a doctor and she told me that merely having the hernia repaired is going to make a huge difference in feeling better. I canβt wait.
I think I developed it with my first daughter as I have a lot of Fluid retention throughout my body and just the sudden weight gain in the pregnancy yes I've been told that having the hernia repaired is going to change my life around I can't waitπππ

50 minutes ago, Mariann812 said:Oh my! I didnβt know I had it either till the first sip of barium. The radiologist showed it to me. My only symptom had been shortness of breath. I canβt wait for it to be repaired. The RNY is used interchangeably with gastric bypass here. I was hoping for a gastric sleeve but the hernia changed that. Good luck to you, and thanks for replying so quickly. π
Yes same here I was supposed to have gastric sleeve but the hernia changed it to a gastric bypass.
Here's a glimpse of what mine looked like, notice how the inner lining of my stomach is spread out to my oesophagus! had no idea it was the case till I saw the pictureπ³

I was 215, my advise to all of you will be 3 or 4 hours after the surgery get out of the bed and walk. Walk as much as you can, so all the gases come out.
Oh wow congratulationsππ it's so good to hear positive reviews as it gives me so much more motivation and confidence! thank you so muchπ and best of luck in your journeyππβ€οΈ

All of my pre-procedure testing is complete. Just waiting. Iβm excited about the surgery and the changes it will bring. Iβm a little apprehensive about the hernia repair because it was completely unexpected. Itβs large and half my stomach is in my chest which explains a lot.
good luck to you!
Hi Marlann,
It's so good to read other people going through the same thing as yourself and so reassuring isn't itπ I'm glad I joined this forum and I'm lovin It my hiatus hernia is quite bad too I didn't know what a hernia was until I saw the image when they went down with a gastroscopy I thought it was just a lump in the stomach! And the Roux EN Y is referred to as 'gastric bypass' here in Australia I didn't understand what it meant at first so I had to search it on Google now I know lolππ
Good luck Marlann! ππ€
I'll be following you as well and whereabouts are you fromπ

My main concern is the Hair loss and teeth with wls as I already have fine hair and very thinning on the top related with hormones and ageing I guess and after reading so many comments and experiences with people who have lost their hair I have come to the conclusion that taking the right supplements and Protein religiously everyday is the key to keeping everything healthyπ

Hi all!
My date is the 27th of April gastric bypass + hiatus hernia repair, I weighed at 109kg in December last year I've lost 9 ks since then by cutting out the carbs and sugar I must admit I HAVE cheated a lot but managed to lose some regardless LOL We all fall off the wagon at times but the main thing is to get back on it!
-Still have 35 ks to lose! ππͺπ€
Best of luck to everyone! π€π€π€πππ

I'm very happy that I found this forum it gives me a lot of confidence as I read other people's experiencesπ
